The deer must be big and solid in his neck of the woods!

I can always recall a "Truckin 'Toon" from years ago, where a couple of tough-looking truckies in a cabover Kenworth that's sporting a MASSIVE bullbar, are stopped on a road in the Outback, after clobbering a huge bull.

They're full of smiles, and one bloke's saying to the other, "Would ya look at THAT!! The bullbar isn't even buckled!"

But the cartoonist has drawn the KW cab, and the rest of the rig, looking like a  concertinaed corrugated iron roof!!

Bullbar is a bit sexist. Nobody ever talks about a cowbar or a heifer bar.

The WAPOL tried it for a period, but it was just too costly and ineffective. They needed police patrols on the ground, working in with the air wing, to apprehend the speeders.

But the choppers are valuable in the city for following crims on the run.

I always used to wonder how this worked in WA

I was involved with aerial speed checking. A pilot and observer in a C-172, and a stop car at the end of a section of the road which had lines painted across it at surveyed separations. The Pigs in Space would use the KR-11 radar to time a target over the length of road and the KR-11 would calculate the speed. Then the observer would radio the stop car to describe the offending vehicle and the speed it had been traveling at. It was annoying to be tasked as the stop car because you knew that you could detect more offenders by mobile patrol. And, no, we didn't have a quota. We could issue as many tickets as we liked to.
