facthunter Posted Monday at 11:28 PM Posted Monday at 11:28 PM Synthetic oils are Mostly produced from LPG. Castor oil oxidises too fast. Wakefield CASTROL was named after it.. Nev 1
octave Posted Tuesday at 12:00 AM Posted Tuesday at 12:00 AM Lately, there seems to be a lot of viral bollocks being posted on social media. Here are 2 from this morning. This one is at best a gross exaggeration. Solar power from rooftops is only part of the energy mix. On a cloudy day, NSW does not get blacked out. Modern panels are pretty tough. Solar Panels Vs. Nature – Hail Hailstorms tend to be local rather than widespread. The odds of the majority of a state's panels being destroyed are exceedingly unlikely. I have lived with solar panels for a total of 29 years without incident. Sure, they could be written off in a hailstorm tomorrow, but the odds seem pretty low. This photo has been going around. I strongly suspect this photo is fake. The generator seems to be running (smoke from the exhaust) without a load on it. The EV charger appears to be facing the grass rather than into the car park. The cables don't appear to make sense - the cable coming out of the charger on the right goes behind the charger and seems to disappear. One of the cables coming out of the generator appears to go into the front of the charger, where you would expect the outlet to be. There is something very weird with the 2 cables coming out of the front of the charger if you try to follow each cable. I did post these observations on the group that published this picture, and my comment was promptly removed, and further comments were switched off. I am curious about why people go to such lengths. 1
facthunter Posted Tuesday at 12:52 AM Posted Tuesday at 12:52 AM Just say 3 HAIL Mary's and put $50 in the Poor box. AS Joe Bjelke said "Feed the Chooks. Paper Bags OVER there.". JC said "the TRUTH is NOT in them" . As you say STORMS are Cells and localised HAIL is usually downwind of a Cb Cumulo Nimbus Cloud. SOME Profit making People don't like the IDEA of near free and INDEPENDENT Power supply. Nev 1
old man emu Posted Tuesday at 08:29 AM Posted Tuesday at 08:29 AM I'm stunned by the ferocity of the storms that have hit S E Queensland, Northeast NSW and around Sydney, the Hunter and Illawarra. And so early in the storm season as well. 2
nomadpete Posted Tuesday at 09:53 AM Posted Tuesday at 09:53 AM Agreed. Those nasty narrow intense storm cells seem to be a new invention.
onetrack Posted Tuesday at 10:21 AM Posted Tuesday at 10:21 AM Nah, they've always been with us - it's just that as soon as we've almost forgotten about their major ferocity, because we haven't seen one for a long time, we get hammered with a ripper, or sometimes a string of them over a relatively short period. Go back into Trove and check out the past major disastrous weather events - there were plenty, even back to the early days of the colony. Anytime you get hot air being drawn down from the North to meet cold moist air from the South, you're going to get some real violent thunderstorm fireworks. I've never encountered thunderstorms as fierce as the ones in the North of W.A. Truly frightening, especially after a few 44 or 45 deg days. The weather photos on the latest BOM calendar are quite impressive. Number 12 is an aerial view of thunderheads in W.A. that would make you turn around and go home in a light aircraft! https://www.perthnow.com.au/wa/weather/bureau-of-meteorology-calendar-features-amazing-photo-of-wa-thunderstorms-c-20552542 2

red750 Posted Tuesday at 11:02 AM Posted Tuesday at 11:02 AM Golf ball sized hail was bad enough. I saw video on the news of tennis ball size hail. Hate to cop one of those on the head. 1
onetrack Posted Tuesday at 12:42 PM Posted Tuesday at 12:42 PM They'll knock you out and cause some serious bodily injury, nothing surer. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-11-01/qld-thunderstorms-hit-south-east-saturday/105961034
Marty_d Posted Tuesday at 11:49 PM Posted Tuesday at 11:49 PM This is only a concept at the moment, but I find it strangely compelling... What do you think? https://www.designboom.com/technology/curved-electric-motorcycle-ev-outlier-concept-bucket-seat-honda-japan-mobility-show-2025-11-03-2025/ 1 1
facthunter Posted Wednesday at 02:42 AM Posted Wednesday at 02:42 AM Too much RAKE at the front and you'd Get Mud all over your Back. Nev 1 1
Marty_d Posted Wednesday at 02:46 AM Posted Wednesday at 02:46 AM You might be right. Not sure why there's a clutch lever too. 1 1
Litespeed Posted Wednesday at 03:42 AM Posted Wednesday at 03:42 AM I note the front end is very similar to my BMW K12r, but with a silly rake angle. Looks cool but not practical, but that's never stopped motorcycles before. 2
Marty_d Posted Wednesday at 03:56 AM Posted Wednesday at 03:56 AM Yeah it's kind of "almost there". I do like everything from the handlebars back, including the seat. But the rake is a little extreme and the translucent cover a bit unnecessary. 1 1
facthunter Posted Wednesday at 04:50 AM Posted Wednesday at 04:50 AM I like the ability to move to different Positions on the seat on longer trips . The rake can reduce the turning circle AND give an unpleasant feel. It's a "chopper" thing. Nev 1
Litespeed Posted Wednesday at 07:03 AM Posted Wednesday at 07:03 AM The seat and peg placement look comfy like some big scooters. Electric bikes are coming but range is a big issue for touring 1
facthunter Posted yesterday at 01:51 AM Posted yesterday at 01:51 AM That's only a concept drawing I reckon.. Nev 1
kgwilson Posted yesterday at 03:16 AM Posted yesterday at 03:16 AM There are heaps of Electric Bike manufacturers including all the major brands and many startups. As you would expect they have electrifying performance with huge torque from zero rpm and some have pretty decent range not far behind ICE powered bikes but it is the recharging time that is the issue. Now that there are megawatt chargers and new EV batteries that can add 500km of range in 5 minutes that will eventually be able to be scaled for bikes as well. 1
Siso Posted yesterday at 04:01 AM Posted yesterday at 04:01 AM Talking to someone the other days who's lad is pretty up in moto x. The electric bikes smash the equivalent horse power 250 class. No gear changes and the torque is constant all through the rev range. 1
spacesailor Posted yesterday at 05:35 AM Posted yesterday at 05:35 AM What l . No power-band . I won't miss it . spacesailor
facthunter Posted yesterday at 08:00 AM Posted yesterday at 08:00 AM Too easy to ride. No challenge. IF there's a collision, will the Charge be, Assault and Battery? Nev 2
Jerry_Atrick Posted yesterday at 08:42 AM Posted yesterday at 08:42 AM That joke is polarising.... 😉 1
onetrack Posted yesterday at 08:43 AM Posted yesterday at 08:43 AM No need to get negative about electric advancements. 1
