Who is muzzling the media?

Following yesterday's announcement of the takeover of Faifax by 9 News, Paul Keating, who's govt introduced the cross media ownership restrictions slammed the development. He referred to the lows of cheque book and "foot-in-the-door" journalism being likely to infect what remains of Fairfax culture. For those interested here is a link to the ABC report.

An ominous day for Australian democracy to lose our last reliable privately owned news network. Fairfax might have survived had management listened to advice and adapted. Instead, they rapidly lost their advertising income stream to digital media.

This is one reason Murdoch is pulling strings in the LNP to stop competition from the ABC.

This morning, via RT, I found this link to a Sky interview.

Labor's 'lies' contributed to Longman loss: PM | Sky News Australia

In it Turnbull backtracked from his earlier claims that the Super Saturday by-election was a referendum on leadership. This has not been commented on by the ABC.

Serial numbers of missile that downed MH17 tells it was produced in 1986, owned by Ukraine - Russia

For anyone who's interested, the above link is a further blow to the conclusion reached by the Dutch investigation of MH17. I don't believe that it was an unbiased, honest attempt to unravel the mystery. Too much supposition, too narrow in selecting evidence.

The missile doesn't vaporise when the warhead explodes. There's going to be chunky bits to be found. Although one would expect the engine and nozzle to be propelled away from the point on the plane where the warhead exploded. Determining the trajectory of the engine and nozzle after the explosion would be a mathematical nightmare. Finding the bits on the ground after they fell from 30,000 ft, with a pretty high initial velocity would be like trying to find a pin in a B-Double load of hay.

Interesting in one of the last paragraphs of the article, quote:

' The Russian military said they had no evidence to disprove a scenario, involving the Ukrainian rebels capturing the missile from the Ukrainian army, but pointed out that Ukrainian officials publicly denied anything like this had ever happened. '

That scenario of the Donbass forces capturing a Ukrainian BUK launcher is what the German security forces came up with in their investigation. They quoted that scenario as what happened, based on their intelligence. The Dutch investigators claim to know where it came from in Russia and from which unit. They won't make any of their evidence public, so they are saying to the world, 'Trust us, this is what happened'. Someone somewhere is either wrong or stretching the truth.
