onetrack Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Pilot John Gregory crashed into the tree near McCall, Idaho, in April 2019, when he was attempting a forced landing in a nearby field. He was uninjured, and was rescued by a volunteer firefighter who also owns a tree removal business. That'd be some rescue! https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/northwest/pilot-rescued-after-plane-crashes-atop-tree/#:~:text=Pilot John Gregory was not hurt in,department in the resort town of McCall. 2
pmccarthy Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Tree removal was not needed. Leave the tree, remove the plane! 1 1
onetrack Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Knowing Americans, I must say I'm surprised they didn't just cut down the tree, complete with the aircraft and pilot still in it, to recover him! 1 1
Jerry_Atrick Posted January 20 Posted January 20 To be fair, most Americans I have met are really nice and quite resourceful. 1 1 1
onetrack Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago In 1906, this chatty little handbook was released. It was called "The Woman and the Car". In the book, advice was given to women who chose to drive a car (gasp!), to .... 1. Carry a revolver, carry a small mirror for seeing behind them, for summoning help, and to also carry some chocolate (yes!) 2. The book also advised bringing hairpins, a pair of clean gloves, an extra handkerchief, a clean veil, and a powder puff for neatening up at the destination! I notice that there was no advice to wear goggles, which were pretty necessary for driving in 1906 due to a lack of proper windscreens, and very dusty unsealed roads. In incidental motoring news, a woman actually invented the first windscreen wiper! 2 1
onetrack Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago When I mentioned to SWMBO that a woman invented the windscreen wiper, she retorted - "That'd be right! Always doing the cleaning!!" 😄 1 2
nomadpete Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago I found it. Gutenberg Project has a free copy. Motoring has come a long way Even for males! 1
onetrack Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago SWMBO wants to know, exactly what destination you plan to send your wife to, with this book?? 1
nomadpete Posted 27 minutes ago Posted 27 minutes ago It is clearly a book for the empowered woman. Of any era.
