facthunter Posted Sunday at 12:57 AM Posted Sunday at 12:57 AM It's a Beat up Marty. This amount of Money is small Bikkies in the Graft and Corruption stakes, The BIG money is Kickbacks from Large Projects. Travelling Internationally is NO fun at all, though Trump style in you OWN flying Block of FLATS would help.. Being EXPECTED to show up and PAY all expenses is ridiculous. THEY are NOT paid enough to do that and It would still be a disincentive to go as well. No one had to search for this. It was Openly declared all along. How about that She and her kids have been threatened with DEATH? ALBO has been also at other times. Nev
onetrack Posted Sunday at 02:02 AM Posted Sunday at 02:02 AM Quote THEY are NOT paid enough to do that.... You jest, surely?? These are people who live in privileged, exalted positions of power and social standing, with pay levels that look like weekly Lotto wins, to the person on the average wage. They have expense accounts that the average employee can only dream about. They have massive levels of perks, from Commonwealth cars on call, right through to a Parliamentary dining room that provides subsidised meal costs (via the allowances or by offering cheaper food prices). The basic salary of an MP is $233,000 - then they have "additional salary" (determined as a percentage of the base salary, and based on "additional duties"). They get allowances galore, including a "deceased members allowance" - which payment goes to their estate. That death allowance is determined by the formula (A x B) divided by 26, where "A" is the base salary and "B" is the number of years served as an MP. The perks, gratuities and entitlements of MP's are excessive, and have been for decades. Whitlam even advised Mark Latham to rort the entitlements system, as much as he could. These people have the ability to pay a lot of their own costs, that ordinary everyday people regularly have to do, when they travel.

I am talking about pollies being allowed to fly their family members, first class, anywhere in Australia. Nothing to do with international travel. 1
Grumpy Old Nasho Posted Sunday at 05:22 AM Posted Sunday at 05:22 AM What has Labor done now? Ripping off the taxpayer, that's their game, always has been.
facthunter Posted Sunday at 05:29 AM Posted Sunday at 05:29 AM The topic NOW is about a Particular Persons actions and OVERSEAS at short Notice Costs as a MINISTER. The fact she has be threatened with Death should be in Our Minds. Also when you Have to WORK in Canberra and have a Home getting away from CBR is foremost in your Mind when you have KIDS at home. The Place they Know and are comfortable in like the average Person . I don't know about this 1st class thing but a free Upgrade would not be unusual. The seat would have to be Unused. You don't KICK others out of it. When I was flying Airlines and on Holidays it was normal for the Overseas Carrier to move you to first class when a seat was empty. Nev 1
facthunter Posted Sunday at 05:37 AM Posted Sunday at 05:37 AM AW Bull$#!t GON. Taxes don't go into Pollies Pockets. It's there to Pay for the Gov't doing everything for the People, including you, who don't want to Pay for it. WE have a BIG area with Not a lot of People to share the costs. You don't have to Be Einstein to work that out. Nev 1
Siso Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago These people know they will be away from their family's before they take the jobs, just as ever FIFO miners does. It's a decision/ compromise they have to make. 1 1
facthunter Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago I think you are pretty desperate to use THAT as a comparison. Pollies do these trips at short notice and it requires a lot of organising and lines of communication and security. Jet lag etc. It's NOTHING LIKE FIFO. It's only MINISTERS that get SO Involved. There's a lot of difference between a Minister and a Backbencher. Nev
nomadpete Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Nev, we live in a capitalist world. Politicians are in it for the money, even the ones that start out with high ideals. Maybe excepting the rare few who are motivated primarily by ethics.
nomadpete Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago I don't expect the employer (taxpayers) to pay for family airfares, etc. When I spent 20yrs travelling for work, my wage was somewhat higher than city based equivalents. Sometimes I delayed my return at the end of a project. I paid my wife's airfare to join me for the weekend. I paid the extra couple of days at the hotel. I was a mere technician but I did this to maintain some work/life balance, to make up a bit for my absence from home. I didn't think it fair to expect my employer to pay for that. Many jobs put stress on home life. Politician or bureaucrat is just one such job. 1 2

Did I miss something there? Was I condemning, casting stones, or sinning? I stated my opinion. That's all. It's just my own opinion. Nobody has to like it. If you don't like that opinion I can offer you others. Edited 1 hour ago by nomadpete
facthunter Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago (edited) IF you want Women to be in Federal Politics they shouldn't have to decide not to have Babies to do it. IF you haven't travelled Overseas on a tight Business schedule, you don't Really have any idea what a crap life it is. Living out of a suitcase is the Least of your Problems, It's anything BUT a Holiday. I know. I've Done it Many times often by Myself. It's very stressful in many ways. At the moment the Conservatives are howling about misuse of funds for travelling by Labor politicians. If they become the Government sometime, Labor will howl about Conseervatives doing the same thing. Rapant thespianism.
