Explosive drones

Recommended Posts

The news that swarms of explosive drones have been used in the Middle East must worry us. The trenching tool has been a primary defence for soldiers for centuries, digging down to get out of the way of bullets, shells and bombs. But drones can find them in a trench or bunker. A bunker door can be blown off by several drones, then a swarm enters and attacks. Ten thousand drones at ten thousand dollars each cost much less than one fighter plane. It will revolutionise how ground wars are fought.

And protecting local jobs!

Definitely something worth worrying about. I recall Mr. Perry posted a video either here or on rec flying some time ago which showed how drones could be used by governments to silence activists.. It was chilling and it is achievable with relatively cheap technology remarkably similar to the iphone/android. Of course, it could be easily fooled by covering one's face, but it can be programmed to fire on those that do because they may have something to hide.

The video called on international regulation of drones, but seriously, governments around the world have sidestepped or liberally applied such regulation - and without a global police force, who is going to enforce it. Can see that non rploferation agreements have worked well as long as everyone is compliant.

The military scale drones seem to be more or less in the early stages of maturity, but it is definitely a worrying development..

Don't worry, someone will already have a prototype of a drone killer in production. It will be American, of course, and it will be capable of blowing away 1000 drones in just one attack. And being American design, it won't just disable them, it will utterly annihilate them, then hunt down the individuals and the place that launched them.

Already done in the movies - watch the assassination attempt in "Angel has fallen".  Swarm of drones with facial recognition and an explosive charge, launched from a multi-tube launcher in the back of a van.  May be fictional but technically there's no reason it can't be done.

Problem with drones is, wind has a big effect on them and they already have drones which drop missiles and bombs that fly through doors and windows to get their target. You can also jam them with high powered microwaves which would cook their components and warp their plastic bodies.

Gard bless armaireeka !

Gotta love A I.  Drone swarms should work out heaps cheaper than overpriced jet fighters. Can I hope that our fearless brown nosed leaders will cancel all orders for F35's now?

Or will our DOD just agree to pay extra to get us some nice chromed drone filters to put on OUR F35 jet intakes?
