onetrack Posted August 26 Posted August 26 So, what about all the photos of Aboriginal cultural places taken 100 or 150 years ago? They've been widely distributed for decades, does that mean they all need to be taken down now? What a crock of sh** and PC wokie-ness his stuff has become. I love the way things that are prohibited under Aboriginal culture can be approved once payment is made to Aboriginal corporations. I think I need to make my local Christian church a no-go sacred place, and start making rules and regulations about who can take photos of it, or not.

I am not saying you can't have any objections, but let's not make a straw man argument. There is total no ban on taking photos at Uluru or the National Gallery, for that matter. Yes, if you are going to make money off those pictures, there is a permit fee. Here is a commercial site that SELLS [pictures. Presumably, these people paid and are now reselling. 8 minutes ago, onetrack said: I think I need to make my local Christian church a no-go sacred place, and start making rules and regulations about who can take photos of it, or not. I have been to many religious sites around the world that have rules or restrictions, and as an atheist, I find it hard to understand, but I do cope with it. 12 minutes ago, onetrack said: What a crock of sh** and PC wokie-ness his stuff has become. I fully accept other opinions as long as I am free to put my opinion. Often, I make points such as, if difficult place names are a danger to tourists, then surely this means changing hundreds of preexisting difficult names (logical isnt it?) I am happy for this idea to be challenged, but no one does; they just move on to photo permits. I know I am probably considered a woke idiot, but I feel that at least I put some effort into my arguments. Any, I will leave it to you guys to argue about 1
facthunter Posted August 26 Posted August 26 There's a Prominent sign new the Door of a Cathedral in Barcelona saying "This Church is the House of GOD. IF you are not properly Dressed Do Not Come In" Nev 1
Marty_d Posted August 27 Posted August 27 Funny how they can be a "house of god" right up to when they need money for child sex abuse payouts, then they get sold off to be a house for someone else. 1
Marty_d Posted August 27 Posted August 27 I'd argue that point, like most sayings from the bible it's overly simplistic. There's plenty of evil arseholes living in poverty too. 1
facthunter Posted August 27 Posted August 27 Love of money and greed makes for a nasty selfish sort of chap. whose values might be some what distorted. I've seen Plenty of them. You Can't take it with you and the friends you have are only hangers on. Nev 1
old man emu Posted August 27 Author Posted August 27 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. (1 Timothy 6:10) 1
spacesailor Posted August 27 Posted August 27 Can't take it with you !. One male proved that wrong . He spent a fortune having his teeth fitted with gemstones. His Inheritors had him exhumed , only , to be told by a judge to return him intact with his fortune. spacesailor 1
onetrack Posted August 27 Posted August 27 (edited) We had a comic for a morning radio announcer here, years ago - Lionel Lewis was his name - and he regularly wisecracked, "They reckon you can't take it with you! I'm gunna prove them wrong! I've ordered a fireproof money belt!" 😄 Another of his classics was, "I recently slipped and fell into the Swan River! But I was lucky enough to be dragged out by the balls!" He then went on to thank Mr and Mrs Ball for rescuing him. 😄 Edited August 27 by onetrack 1

That gag was used by Jackie Clancy, who did a breakfast program on radio 3UZ Melbourne in the early sixties, with Bill Ackfield. They were known as Ackie and Jackie. Their show was pretty risque, such that when they moved to 3XY, they had to record their show an hour before broadcast time so it could be censored if necessary. Before I learned to fly, I took a joyride in a Hughes 269 helicopter at Moorabbin, and the pilot was Bill Ackfield. In another somewhat related incident, my first GA flight was in a Cessna 172 which was used by 3UZ to do traffic reports on the radio. It had a huge 3UZ painted under the wing, and the pilot on that occasion was the announcer Neil Thompson who used to do the traffic reports. 1
