  1. The outer shell compressed when I fitted it in the eye. So either the outer or the crank pin had to be adjusted. I took .0015 inches off the crank pin diameter using tape and grinding paste.
  2. I spent all morning lapping this bearing to make it fit. Two engineering shops couldn't do it for me. Now I feel good.
  3. But the woo woo music makes it real.
  4. My two girl cousins both had all their teeth out as teenagers in the 1950s. Just to make it easier to care for themselves.
  5. Seems to me two extra hypotheses are worth considering. 1 these things exist in a parallel universe perhaps made of dark matter. We will never touch them in ours. This is unlikely, as they seem to cluster around defense sites. 2 They are images produced by a convergence of several focussed laser beams producing an area of superheated air in a projected pattern. This would enable them to move at any speed including "faster than light". I also do not rule out entirely observation from the future, although this is real science fiction. Subjective travel into the future is easy, just get yourself frozen. Physical travel into the past is impossible, not least because of the grandfather effect. But our observation of the past is getting better and better, through techniques like DNA analysis, thermoluminscence etc. Perhaps in the far future direct observation of the past will be possible. There may be particular interest in military technologies in the immediate years before the apocalypse. Remember "nothing is real". It is all made out of atoms with great spaces between them, and quantum links we are only beginning to appreciate.
  6. I peed on an electric fence. My tool electrified itself.
  7. I remember that blokes face but not his name.
  8. Yes that’s right Marty and the French came from Latin aurum.
  9. In 1988 there was a display at the Bicentenial in Brisbane with a gold bar in a box. You could put your hand in the top and try to lift it, no one could.
  10. That is bigger than a standard bullion bar. Say its 30cm by 8cm by 5cm. thats 1200 cubic centimetres. At 19 grams per cc that is 22.8kg. More than a bag of cement.
  11. This case would be useful if it can provide proof of the theory that human contributions to CO2 levels can cause increased temperatures. I have not seen any proof, but I have seen ample evidence that the theory is wrong. It would be good to get evidence presented and tested in court.
  12. In a restaurant in Hereford I ordered the Hereford steak. I asked the waitress to confirm that it was a Hereford steak. She said you are in Hereford, so it is a Hereford steak.
  13. I lie awake at night worrying that I am becoming obsessive.
  14. There was a story in a motorbike magazine in the early 1970s by a bloke who had that head on experience. He leapt straight up and his lower legs were smashed but otherwise he was ok as he sailed over the oncoming car. It was on the Newell highway as I recall. I often think of that when riding with an oncoming car. Not that I could jump up to save myself these days.
  15. Mildura is setting up for trucks on east-west route.
  16. About 15 years ago I read an article about olive leaf extract in an industry magazine. It said that oil leaf extract was invented at that time by an Australian oil producer who was unprofitable and looked at the mountains of prunings he produced each year. He decided there must by a product he could make from the branches and leaves. He was able to extract something which he then tested to find out whether it was poisonous or harmful, then thought about what benefits could be claimed for it. As far as I know, no benefits have been demonstrated but it has been a marketing success. Like so many alt health products on the chemist shop shelves.
  17. Me too fit young 64 year old gorgeous wife. Keeps life worth living.
  18. Machinery maintenance gets very different in arctic temperatures. Things like chassis rails can just snap. Lubricants turn solid. Welds break. I would not enjoy it.
  19. I don’t understand how he was still chasing it in his latter years. Some people never learn.
  20. There are also electric stealth trail bikes.
  21. Where I live there is unlimited fallen timber but it is all off limits and allowed to rot to harbour small creatures, who then die in controlled burns or bushfires, when the fallen timber is also consumed.
  22. I’ve been in minus 40 in northern Sweden but properly dressed. The coldest I have ever been for a period of hours was in the City of London in February wearing a business suit. The cold seemed to come up out of the cobbles. We have had our fire burning at home continuously for several weeks now, two logs keep it alive overnight.
