  1. Last week we stayed at a caravan park in Tossell Street, Moonta. My wife wondered why I was laughing.
  2. After a couple of weeks of travelling and now back home, I am greatly alarmed by the state of our country. Long, long waiting list for medical help. No meat in shops because of the shortage of butchers, not of animals. Empty supermarket shelves. Rude or absent shop assistants. And so on. It is unprecedented in my lifetime, but perhaps my grandparents would feel at home.
  3. A very thoughtful and caring lady.
  4. It's suprising how many women are too lazy to lift the seat after use.
  5. Sitting on it with bare feet on a freezing tiled floor is not much chop either, just did I it.
  6. I am not a fast typist so I learned to use voice to text very efficiently. But I have found that I can't think any faster than my slow typing anyway.
  7. We have no idea of what culture existed in Australia 2000 or 3000 years ago, any more than we know anything about the culture of the people who built Stonehenge. We can see something of the tools they used but that is all. The archaeological record does not tell us what the culture was. So to claim that Australia has the worlds oldest continuous culture is complete BS. We just don’t know and will probably never know.
  8. I have just been driving around South Aus and they seem to have a solar farm near every substation or where power lines converge. It is an impressive distributed system.
  9. Above ground tanks are ok in Vic and SA. I don’t know about elsewhere. They have to be self bunded as per mine site requirements. We are getting a brand new 1200 litre job with hose for around $15k, for Mogas. Already have a larger one for Avgas.
  10. Labor's emissions reduction plan has been estimated to cost $300b in new infrastructure. The interest bill on this will increase the unit cost of electricity forever. So much for cheap renewables.
  11. My father was a bank manager and he had to take all his staff including junior girls on the shooting range each year. They had revolvers in holsters fastened under the front counter
  12. This Voice thing has no hope of getting up based on the information given out so far. The road to hell is paved with good intentions.
  13. The famous Boroloola library gradually rotted in the wet season, but it entertained and educated many fugitives from society before that happened.
  14. I have found bamboo socks too slow to dry after washing.
  15. Todays Age has a prominent picture labelled Grain fields burn in Ukraine. It is clearly a stubble fire, the grain heads are gone and the tracks of the harvester are obvious. A stupid example of propaganda.
  16. Something like 600 villages in Belorussia were burned by the Germans in Ww2 and all the people killed. We sometimes forget the history behind current emotions and prejudices.
  17. I obtained a Bentley engine as part of a deal a few years back. It was in a wooden crate wrapped in plastic, outside a shed. When i took it apart the sump was full of water and most parts ruined.
  18. A left footer is a Roman Catholic. And a gander means stretching your neck to look around. I would go with the first explanation.
  19. I read somewhere that there were no corrugations when trucks had solid rubber tyres, up to about 1920, then they appeared when pneumatic tyres were introduced.
  20. Right in the middle of the road is the safe place when there are Roos around
  21. They have already given up on the undersea cable idea.
