willedoo Posted November 28, 2018 Author Posted November 28, 2018 And it's no good saying you belong to the aircraft religion or something like that. You need to have a supernatural powerful spirit and some sort of organized rituals to praise this spirit. Not kidding, you can look up the tax laws. Bruce, I wonder how the Pastafarians would go. Maybe they don't have an organized financial structure. In New Zealand, weddings performed by Pastafarian ministers are now legally recognized. And I wonder if they call the ministers pastas.
Bruce Posted November 28, 2018 Posted November 28, 2018 I tried to google if pastafarians were recognized by the ATO. All I found was that Rastafarians are recognised in pommy prisons. Bad news huh, it seems an intelligent religion. ( pastafarians that is...).
willedoo Posted November 28, 2018 Author Posted November 28, 2018 The Pastafarians have some odd beliefs, but if you look at the bible in a non religious, analytical way, the Christian story is just as bizzare. God made the world in 6 days then had Sunday off. That takes a lot of power and skill to do that. But why six days? Was he busy making dirt, trees and rocks, and logistically it just takes a few days, even for a god? I would have thought if he had that power, it would be done in one big bang with a wave of the wand. Then he made Adam and Eve and some animals, fruit trees etc.. That's odd, he's just made a planet in six days, so why just make two humans. Why not make thousands of them to hurry the begatting along a bit. It would be a relatively easy task after making a world in a week. The odd thing is, he can make a planet, but can't stop kids getting cancer. If there is an afterlife, my bet is that it's the same whether you wear a cross around your neck or a colander on your head. The same whether whether you are a member of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, or believe in the planet maker. None of them should be bludging on us to carry the can and pay their way. Tax them all, I say. Churches benefit from tax funded infrastructure and services, so they should pay their share. PS: if you don't hear from me again, I've been struck down by lightning.
coljones Posted November 28, 2018 Posted November 28, 2018 One is one too many. People are genuinely scared. But not going out at night means the thugs win. Many people I know are fed up with the lenient treatment being handed out. Slap on the wrist with a wet lettuce leaf. Social media is full of complaints. Many shop keepers are giving up and getting out after being robbed 3 or 4 times, often by the same gangs. And how many of those caught plead "I have a mental illness."? Victoria was always known as the murder state, even before the Morans turned up. Searching for the mote while ignoring the log helps out no-one.
Jerry_Atrick Posted November 28, 2018 Posted November 28, 2018 And here am I thinking (per capita) Adelaide is (or was) the city of churches because of the services required for the abnormally high (per capita) murder rate How things have changed
octave Posted November 28, 2018 Posted November 28, 2018 If you click on the individual states on this graph you can compare homicides by state. It seems that the Northern Territory is the highest and The ACT is the lowest. Victoria and SA are quite low. Trends in homicide, 1980-90 to 2013-14 | Crime Statistics Australia
Bruce Posted November 29, 2018 Posted November 29, 2018 The 7 days of the week come from the 7 heavenly bodies known to the first civilization. Mercury, Venus, sun, moon, mars, jupiter and Saturn. To this day, we have Sunday, Moonday and Saturnday. If those pesky vikings had not jumped in with TiwsDay, Wodensday , Thorsday and Freyaday then we would still have them properly named. Well at least there is a female up there, Freya. Better than that misogynistic middle-east lot with their all-male trinity huh.

The application of verifiable facts will always be trumped by scare-mongering from a desperate LNP election campaign, supported by the Murdoch press.
facthunter Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 I've worked out why we fall short of the glory of god. INBREEDING. From a base of only two people what would you expect? Also there was a bit of" keep it in the family" in the early days of the Abrahamics adding to the effect.. "Days" are just epoch's or periods, so I wouldn't get too worked up about the small time, probably an error of translation as is the word for Virgin and young girl. which was the one word. Nev
Marty_d Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 LNP don't have a monopoly on scare tactics. No, but they do love hitting the "law and order" button when they're not hitting the "stop the boats" one. Labor at least had something valid to scare people about, elements in the LNP would happily privatise Medicare and the rest of the public service for that matter.
Bruce Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 It is only with homicide that you get an idea about the territory. I was there when the deal was that it was no good ringing the police to complain about indigenous crime. This sure would make the crime statistics show very little indigenous crime huh.
red750 Posted June 18 Posted June 18 There are comments in this thread on the reduction of crime in this state. That's no consolation on days like today. 1. A ramraid on a motorbike shop in Warragul, with hundreds of thousand dollars worth of bikes stolen - perps on the run 2. A ramraid on an e-bike store in Ascot Vale with three e-bikes loaded on a trailer, not concerned with CCTV and onlookers - perps on the run. 3. A 4WD rammed through the doors of Northland Shopping Centre at 4 pm., speeding through the mall scattering shoppers, and out another door - perp on the run. Only a couple of days after a machete attack at the same centre. 4. Six teenagers injured when a stolen car was driven at speed in the early hours and crashed, one in critical condition. 5. 3 luxury cars at a luxuryncar rental yard set on fire - perps on the run. All in one day. 1
Jerry_Atrick Posted June 18 Posted June 18 (edited) That's it. 5 crimes in a state of how many million people. No murders, no rapes (now sexal assault), no bank robberies, no burglaries, no stabbings, shootings, etc. You don't know how lucky you are. Edited June 18 by Jerry_Atrick 2 1
Marty_d Posted June 18 Posted June 18 I've been robbed. It's shit but you get over it. Didn't have insurance on that bike either. As annoying as it is for all the victims, bet they're fully insured. When I saw number 3 it reminded me of the Blues Brothers. 1 1

The implication of the post is that under the Allan government, things are out of control. If the crime rates are coming down, then under previous governments, more people were experiencing it and, as you say, we would be telling more people than today. What you described is probably what one person who went to the same high school as me would have done in a day.. The reality is every day and probably many times an hour, an indictable offence is being comitted. When I last worked in the same building as the family court, I think it was Bourke street, there was a dog awful crash where some aggreieved person ran their car through the plate glass windows of the court building. That didn't mean cars ramming through buildings was out of control. 1
red750 Posted June 18 Posted June 18 Police statistics released this morning for the last 12 months in Victoria - Crime overall up 17% Car theft up 47%. 1 1
facthunter Posted June 19 Posted June 19 HOW would you recommend it be fixed red? Build more private gaols? Arm the Police more? They are trying to get more Cops trained. CAR theft is easy now with Electronic gadgets. Do those stats relate to Population growth? Nev 1
nomadpete Posted June 19 Posted June 19 This is all of Australia but gives a general idea of crime levels... 'Australia is generally considered one of the safest countries globally. In 2024, it made it into the top 20 most peaceful countries in the world,' https://www.statista.com/topics/8537/crime-in-australia/ 1
nomadpete Posted June 19 Posted June 19 (edited) Before I get flamed for the above statistic, this ABC report focuses on Vic crimes. "The crime rate in Victoria rose by 13.2 per cent in 2024, according to the latest figures from the Crime Statistics Agency (CSA). The biggest increase was in property and deception offences, which rose by 21.9 per cent." However, I'm not sure how the politicians can control this. Making laws does little to modify the culture of the criminal individuals. Edited June 19 by nomadpete 1

What's wrong with instructing the judges to impose much heavier sentences ... 100 days community service for robbery should be replaced with 500 days in jail ... 8 years in jail for manslaughter should be replaced with 20 years in jail ... 25 years for murder should be replaced with 35 years ... and abolish parole, it's useless. 1 1

Have you ever got a traffic ticket, or a parking ticket? I bet that if you had, you’d bitch about the heavy penalty. 1 1
spacesailor Posted June 19 Posted June 19 At one time the poms came here for holidays ! . Now anytime more than 30 days should be a government paid, sentence in an over-sea's prison , which ever country that needs some money for locking up our criminals it was done for Australian " criminal immigrants " . . spacesailor
