We've all heard the news regarding child care centres and the Working With Children check. My complaint is that the coverage is spread so wide, it has become unmanagable.

 

I am a volunteer at our Men's Shed. I don't do much because most of the guys don't need help with what I was accepted for - assistance with computers, internet, email accounts and digital photography.

 

What do those two thoughts have to do with each other? As a volunteer, I am considered an employee of the company which runs the shed. In other operations of the company, three suburbs away, they have activities involving children. As an employee of the company, I am required to hold a Working With Children certificate and undergo police checks, even though the youngest person through our doors would be over 50. What a waste of admin and police effort.

And the system is a complete failure, as evidenced by the childcare victims and the number of schoolteachers, police, and people of "high standing", who are now being caught on a regular and seemingly increasing basis, for deviant activities.

My relevant gripe is that the "Working With Vulnerables" blue card has become as cumbersome and ineffective as a ASIC card.

 

I am required to hold a Blue Card to be a volunteer fire fighter. 

 

Next thing, they will want every human to have one, just in case they encounter a person who is under the age of consent..

The auto subtitling has quite a high degree of accuracy, but when it does mess up, it can be quite amusing.

 

My son owns a computer game development company.  About once a week, one of the team members produces a short YouTube video talking about updates to their main game and upcoming developments.  The fellow who does this is German, although he speaks English without much of an accent.

 

A couple of years ago, I watched one of these videos, and I had subtitles on.   He talked about how an update would be delayed because there were some small problems to fix. 

 

 He said, "There are still some NIGGLES in the system" Unfortunately, the auto subtitle heard the word NIGGLES as, shall we say, a racially offensive word with almost the same letters.  

 

Reading the comments, everyone understood what had happened, and it did lead to some quite humorous posts.

Big gripe from me ! .

I was using 'gears ' to get a little more amps in the car battery  .

Lots ridiculed that idea .

Now , after giving it away , ten days sitting idle,  the battery doesn't start the car , lack of charge 

so , now on the battery charger for the night .

Spacey, an engine alternator will be producing nearly full amperage output at a little over an idle, they don't need to be revved like the old generators.

 

It's likely your battery is either sulphated, or at the end of its working life, and can no longer hold a decent charge.

How long has the battery been in the car? Does one cell get warmer than the others when on charge?  Frosts discharge batteries. Nev

The battery is two year old , 

But at 15/ 18,000 revs the alternator doesn't put out a lot of charge , then the run time is 15 minutes , times two , which is hardly long enough to put back what the alarm takes out over the ten to fourteen days of sitting .

Battery voltage was down to nine volts , too low for my solar panel to get going .

Had to be put on the old 240v battery charger .

 Started alright  this morning.

Spacey, your alternator should be pumping out 30 amps or more at 1000rpm engine speed. You might need to check that alternator to see if it's performing properly.

Tomorrow,  we will try to go to the shops ,  if the battery cranks the motor into life . LoL

 

My old Delica had a 130 amp alternator. & I have a 200 amp/ welder alternator. Out of my boat .

Batteries which have been well discharged for any time at all may require a charger that can recondition them (Desulphating). A sulphated battery just won't TAKE much of a charge, even if the Alternator is OK.   Nev

My gripe today is websites that claim wellknown people have died when they haven't. Todays one said Susie Quatro had been killed in a car accident on 28 August. Aquick check proved that incorrect. Also, the myriad of stories about the Royal Family. If you believe this BS on webites like Classic Cars that this or that royal is on deaths door you'd be kidding yourself. And every member of the cast of the English Chaser show has some deadly illness. People are sick in the head.  They even claimed Elon Musk was killed in an accident.

Well funny you should say that OME, apparently there was a rumour of the orange clown's demise that got so much traction the white house had to address it.

For the first time ever, Trump was right when he called it "fake news".

My gripe is that supermarkets don't stock  bottles of chocolate milk in drink-sized containers. You can get any quantity of varieties of coffee or strawberry flavours, but the chocolate milk is always sold out. It's no use my buying a carton because I like to drink the milk on my one-hour drive home from a shopping trip into my nearest big town. You can't drink out of a carton while driving.
