Jerry_Atrick Posted Thursday at 09:55 AM Posted Thursday at 09:55 AM Buy yourself a majority in both houses and it is a virtual dictatorship...Yes, if you are not elected, you can't participate, but with the right amount of money, you can buy yourself an election. Even Chump was elected.. by an outright majority of voters who turned out as well as the Republicans taking both houses - legal and so suggestions of interference - unless you count campaign donations as interference. Once in, even within the constraints of the constitution, they can achieve a lot of their aims, which is enrichment. And even operating outside the constitution, as we have seen in the USA, is possible. If, Should Pauline managed to get power, a judge says to her something she did is unconstitutional and she has the confidence of both houses, who will stop her doing it? The AFP? Doubtful as the head of the AFP is appointed by the GG on the advice of the government. The armed forces? Doubtful for the same reason... and then it would be a military coup. Chump tested the limits of enforcement of breaches of the US constitution. So far, he has won out He and those like him have no regard to rules as they apply to others.. Have you forgotten the Robodebt commissioner referred some for criminal prosecution.. and nothing has come of that yet. It appears allegedly acting illegally is less important in Australian politics than it once was. So, yes, it is entirely possible, especially given how many people in the polls seemed to endorse Pauline before her popularity started to abate. Thankfully she and her party have started to implode before gaining a lower house seat. My point was that, like Chump, Farage and Pauline have made inroads into politics of their respective countries thanks to a) being bought and b) having a lot of money behind them to influence the public. Thankfully, their inroads are abating. In Pauline's case, thankfully her ineptness has resulted in the abatement before gaining a lower house seat, which will hopefully stop any chance of her team winning We will find out later this year if Victorians are prepared to back her.
Siso Posted Thursday at 09:45 PM Posted Thursday at 09:45 PM If the ABC wasn't so biased itself, maybe they would get more interviews with them.
old man emu Posted Thursday at 11:27 PM Posted Thursday at 11:27 PM Does "bias" mean having a different point of view from that held by others? In a lot of things, the ABC presents and promotes things that I do not agree with. However, it also presents a lot of material that is informative or entertaining. Hanson's call to close down the ABC surely does not take into account all the good stuff it does. I wonder if she has ever spent time watching or listening to the material the ABC broadcasts other than that which is related to politics.
facthunter Posted Thursday at 11:56 PM Posted Thursday at 11:56 PM Just ask AI how biased is the ABC. It's always been acknowledged to be the Most reliable although I believe it could improve. Its the Best we have. Hanson wants it closed as part of her DEAL with Murdoch.. That's why news 24 promotes her feverishly. She's their Puppet.. Nev 1
Siso Posted Friday at 12:50 AM Posted Friday at 12:50 AM I saw an interview with Penny Wong a few months ago on insiders. The first 5 mins was just having pot shots at the opposition. As well as being kept on subject by the interviewer the opposition gets the "I don't believe you" lines chucked in during the interviews. Murdoch has nothing to do with this. Everyone knows they are biased. The ABC is paid for by the taxpayer and should treat all sides of government the same. No Brainer really. The left leaning think they are the best things out. I have people in my direct family that think the same. They don't appreciate it being bought to their attention. Just so you know, the last time I can remember voting for a major party at the top of the voting slip was when Howard bought in the gst and I did not support that. None have earnt my vote towards the top of the voting slip since. 1
facthunter Posted Friday at 01:25 AM Posted Friday at 01:25 AM Most of the ABC visible operative and Management are Ex Murdoch employees. Even the CEO and Speers, PK etc They frequently give Libs/Nats a very easy Interview while Talking Over and Interrupting the Labor Ministers to provoke a Headllne. I can hardly bring Myself to watch "Insiders", these days. The others are sacking staff Hand over foot. SKY has Changed it's name to News 24. Strangely Similar to ABC News 24.. Nev 1 1
Marty_d Posted Friday at 02:41 AM Posted Friday at 02:41 AM 4 hours ago, Siso said: If the ABC wasn't so biased itself, maybe they would get more interviews with them. That's absolute rubbish. The ABC is far less biased than any other news service in Australia. It's widely recognised that Sky News or whatever they call themselves now are among the most biased. So surely Hanson refused entry to them too? The reason Hanson doesn't want the ABC around is because they ask difficult questions. Guess what? That's their job. They do it to all sides of politics. And as a politician, if you haven't got answers to difficult questions, then what are you doing there? As a reporter said this morning, it's dangerous for democracy when politicians exclude segments of the media from their announcements. Look how many criminal investigations leading to charges have been initiated by investigative journalism, especially by the ABC. Without proper media scrutiny, corruption flourishes. 3
facthunter Posted Friday at 02:50 AM Posted Friday at 02:50 AM ABC does most of the Investigative Journalism, these days. That's not hard to verify. Nev
Siso Posted Friday at 03:05 AM Posted Friday at 03:05 AM Less bias is not no bias. They are funded by the tax payer and should have no bias. That's the fact Jak! Everyone knows that the other broadcasters are biased. Albo got asked difficult questions on the abc the other day and he just didn't answer it regarding his lunch with the Chinese dude. They just let him get away with it, they wouldn't let the other party's get away with it without some commentary. ABC does the most investigative commentary and adds a bit to make it sell. Remember the extra shots they put in when the Aussie soldiers were shooting out a helicopter. Something the Murdoch press would do!
facthunter Posted Friday at 03:12 AM Posted Friday at 03:12 AM They actually bend over backwards to Not Look Biased. They ARE the Most trusted NEWS Source By a Country Mile whether YOU want to believe it or Not. You can check it up as easily as anyone else can. Nev
Siso Posted Friday at 04:06 AM Posted Friday at 04:06 AM Not to look biased. We had a reporter saying that legitamising one nation is a bad thing. I'm not saying they aren't the most trusted source as they should be because they are paid for by the tax payer and that is the difference. Imagine how they would have reacted if the Murdoch press put a cartoon on similar to what the ABC had with Gina except use Wong or Gallagher. They are doing a terrible job at not looking biased.

Not sure how much you listen to Radio National, but there's been a LOT of commentary about Albo's ill-judged dinner and his subsequent avoidance of questioning about it. There's only so much you can put in a news bulletin. So no, they didn't just let him get away with it. 1
Siso Posted Friday at 06:48 AM Posted Friday at 06:48 AM havent listened to radio national, was on the 730 report
facthunter Posted yesterday at 03:56 AM Posted yesterday at 03:56 AM I note A Nuclear Power station on the Danube has had to cease output due to Insufficient cooling water and direct extra water for safety reasons. In Hungary I think. That's shut down a Lot of Heavy Industry and costing a Monty.. Nev 1
facthunter Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago The system knows that and is built to cope. It's NOT built to cope with a Massive failure like this situation Causes. There's none so blind as those who will NOT see.. This IS a Catastrophe that will cost a fortune in Lost Productivity.. There's also a safety risk. Nev 1

Nuclear power stations close down for refuelling, too... Was 30 days per shutdown when I was in the game. I know, because our software saved a whole 2 days per shutdown. Which was a big deal and saved a couple of million per shut down. 1
facthunter Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago IF Nuclear is so good More of it would be being ordered. It NEEDS lots of Water and with the Climate changing that water cannot be guaranteed. Things that Need cooling are adding heat to the equation. The heat energy that solar uses comes here anyhow reliably, safely and free.. OF all Places on earth, Australia Has to be one of the best Places for it. Nev 2
pmccarthy Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago More IS being ordered. New plants around the world. USA alone has 96 reactors and is building more. France exports power. Etc.
nomadpete Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago The banks are the least swayed by emotional propaganda. They seldom priotise environment above profitability. And even they are reluctant to invest in new nuclear or coal burning power stations. The money has spoken. My concerns about the environment will always be over ruled by the big money end of town. They don't see a future in coal power or nuclear power generation. There's no point in us arguing about it!
nomadpete Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Now, to bring this thread back to topic, Middle East..... Is the Middle East suddenly switching off conventional power stations and turning to nuclear power for their cheap electricity?
