Buy yourself a majority in both houses and it is a virtual dictatorship...Yes, if you are not elected, you can't participate, but with the right amount of money, you can buy yourself an election. Even Chump was elected.. by an outright majority of voters who turned out as well as the Republicans taking both houses - legal and so suggestions of interference - unless you count campaign donations as interference.

 

Once in, even within the constraints of the constitution, they can achieve a lot of their aims, which is enrichment. And even operating outside the constitution, as we have seen in the USA, is possible.  If, Should Pauline managed to get power, a judge says to her something she did is unconstitutional and she has the confidence of both houses, who will stop her doing it? The AFP? Doubtful as the head of the AFP is appointed by the GG on the advice of the government. The armed forces? Doubtful for the same reason... and then it would be a military coup. Chump tested the limits of enforcement of breaches of the US constitution. So far, he has won out He and those like him have no regard to rules as they apply to others..

 

Have you forgotten the Robodebt commissioner referred some for criminal prosecution.. and nothing has come of that yet. It appears allegedly acting illegally is less important in Australian politics than it once was. 

So, yes, it is entirely possible, especially given how many people in the polls seemed to endorse Pauline before her popularity started to abate. Thankfully she and her party have started to implode before gaining a lower house seat. 

 

My point was that, like Chump, Farage and Pauline have made inroads into politics of their respective countries thanks to a) being bought and b) having a lot of money behind them to influence the public. Thankfully, their inroads are abating. In Pauline's case, thankfully her ineptness has resulted in the abatement before gaining a lower house seat, which will hopefully stop any chance of her team winning We will find out later this year if Victorians are prepared to back her.

Does "bias" mean having a different point of view from that held by others?

 

In a lot of things, the ABC presents and promotes things that I do not agree with. However, it also presents a lot of material that is informative or entertaining. 

 

Hanson's call to close down the ABC surely does not take into account all the good stuff it does. I wonder if she has ever spent time watching or listening to the material the ABC broadcasts other than that which is related to politics.

Just ask AI how biased is the ABC. It's always been acknowledged to be the Most reliable although I believe it could improve. Its the Best we have. Hanson wants it closed as part of her DEAL with Murdoch.. That's why news 24 promotes her feverishly. She's their Puppet.. Nev

I saw an interview with Penny Wong a few months ago on insiders. The first 5 mins was just having pot shots at the opposition. As well as being kept on subject by the interviewer the opposition gets the "I don't believe you" lines chucked in during the interviews. Murdoch has nothing to do with this. Everyone knows they are biased. The ABC is paid for by the taxpayer and should treat all sides of government the same. No Brainer really. The left leaning think they are the best things out. I have people in my direct family that think the same. They don't appreciate it being bought to their attention. Just so you know, the last time I can remember voting for a major party at the top of the voting slip was when Howard bought in the gst and I did not support that. None have earnt my vote towards the top of the voting slip  since.

Most of the ABC  visible operative and Management are Ex Murdoch employees. Even the CEO and Speers, PK etc  They frequently give Libs/Nats a very easy Interview while Talking Over and Interrupting the Labor Ministers to provoke a Headllne. I can hardly bring Myself to watch  "Insiders", these days. The others are sacking staff Hand over foot. SKY has Changed it's name to News 24. Strangely Similar to ABC News 24.. Nev

That's absolute rubbish.

 

The ABC is far less biased than any other news service in Australia.

It's widely recognised that Sky News or whatever they call themselves now are among the most biased.

So surely Hanson refused entry to them too?

 

The reason Hanson doesn't want the ABC around is because they ask difficult questions. Guess what? That's their job. They do it to all sides of politics.

 

And as a politician, if you haven't got answers to difficult questions, then what are you doing there?

 

As a reporter said this morning, it's dangerous for democracy when politicians exclude segments of the media from their announcements.
 

Look how many criminal investigations leading to charges have been initiated by investigative journalism, especially by the ABC. Without proper media scrutiny, corruption flourishes.

Less bias is not no bias. They are funded by the tax payer and should have no bias. That's the fact Jak! Everyone knows that the other broadcasters are biased. Albo got asked difficult questions on the abc the other day and he just didn't answer it regarding his lunch with the Chinese dude. They just let him get away with it, they wouldn't let the other party's get away with it without some commentary.

 

ABC does the most investigative commentary and adds a bit to make it sell. Remember the extra shots they put in when the Aussie soldiers were shooting out a helicopter. Something the Murdoch press would do!
