Nev. Is that anything like albo and co promising not to change negative gearing? Maybe they both had their fingers crossed.
old man emu Posted Sunday at 11:05 PM Posted Sunday at 11:05 PM Changing the conditions for negative gearing in a small economy like Australia's would not endanger the global economic system in the way unprovoked attacks on the economy of another country have done. 2
Siso Posted Sunday at 11:33 PM Posted Sunday at 11:33 PM Still a broken promise though. Albo probably had more plans on doing it then Trump did. 1
old man emu Posted Sunday at 11:45 PM Posted Sunday at 11:45 PM Didn't someone once promise that Australia would not have a Goods and Servies Tax?
facthunter Posted Monday at 02:09 AM Posted Monday at 02:09 AM The already rich and wanting to be much richer would wish to increase GST which hurts the POOR the Most and creates Heaps of Paperwork. Conservatives wish to increase it. Maybe we end up like the UK, A dead hand on everything at the rate they have. IF I was da King I would abolish it. Tax should be imposed on those who can afford to Pay it, Firstly. Nev

The difference is he took it to an election when he changed his mind. Huge difference! Maybe we could mention "there won't be a carbon tax in a government I lead." Edited Monday at 02:49 AM by Siso
facthunter Posted Monday at 03:45 AM Posted Monday at 03:45 AM The dispute there was whether it was a TAX OR a Price ON carbon. Looks like my Posts here are in Invisible Ink. Nev
facthunter Posted Monday at 04:38 AM Posted Monday at 04:38 AM That was Bob Hawke who I was never an admirer of.. How about BACK to topic? Nev
old man emu Posted Monday at 07:38 AM Posted Monday at 07:38 AM Haven't we gown up enough to have learned that promises made by politicians are hot air at best? Perhaps the running of teh country should be tuned over to the Public Service and politicians can continue to have their debating societies in the houses of parliament. Even used car salespersons are trusted more than politicians.
facthunter Posted Monday at 08:42 AM Posted Monday at 08:42 AM The TOPIC is ME conflict and the debates in the Parliament are recorded. Public Service is Not elected. The most Important things for a Functioning Democracy (a) A free and fair Election Process. Checks and rules applying to any Money donated or spent, A GOOD honest Press which is Not a fully incorporated arm of the Liberal Part and NOW PHON Otherwise why not Cut out the Middlemen/women) and let Gina and Merdey run the Country directly, Nats have been all about Fracking and mining Not Farms etc as they once were. Follow the Money trail That will find out who calls the shots. Nev 2

Nev I think that you have identified the problem. The electors have been shown so many examples of corruption in its many forms that they see all politicians are corrupt. Not being corrupt themselves, the electors have no faith in whatever politicians say. 1
Marty_d Posted Monday at 11:29 AM Posted Monday at 11:29 AM Money should be taken out of politics entirely. Yes there still should be free and fair elections, but I think the application of a few public service rules would do wonders for the political class. No ability to accept any gift, donation or service of any value, for a start. And integrity checks. The ability of interest groups to lobby politicians erodes democracy. Everyone knows gambling advertising should be banned completely. It's a no-brainer. So why isn't it happening? 2

Politcal Parties do not have many members compared to the whole population, so membership fees cannot fund the advertising needed to conduct a campaign. Sad truth, but a truth nonetheless. Should there be a cap on the amount a donor can give? Probably the best solution. Does promotion via the various media types count as a donation? Getting into freedom of speech there. 12 hours ago, Marty_d said: Everyone knows gambling advertising should be banned completely. It's a no-brainer. So why isn't it happening? Because the bookies pay tax as well. You won't kill off gambling.
Siso Posted Tuesday at 12:04 AM Posted Tuesday at 12:04 AM Or like the ABC. I see that ABCs interview with Albo about the billionaire he had lunch with didn't include any commentry weather they didn't believe what he was saying from the interviewer.

Because the bookies pay tax as well. You won't kill off gambling. Party too. Everything should be taxpayer funded when it comes to elections. An amount of money would be allocated for each candidate for advertising, staff, equipment etc. Let's face it, the vast majority of Australians do not donate to political parties. The ones that do are usually after something in return. Take out the money and you lessen the influence, meaning decisions are more likely to be made in the interests of all people. 1
facthunter Posted Tuesday at 03:38 AM Posted Tuesday at 03:38 AM USA has the Best Politicians Money can BUY. They then turn into Dictators you can't get rid of. .Nev 2
Jerry_Atrick Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago At this stage, it would appear than most countries have the same issue, although thankfully abating in the UK thanks to Andy Burnham; and in Australia due to Pauline's own ineptitude.
facthunter Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago (edited) Your Politics are on another Planet about Australia. . The only Potential Dicktators are Murdoch and Gina Reinhart with PHON as a Puppet. The "beaten at every stage," T A Bot thinks he is Still a Mover & Shaker and Policy Maker. To Legitimately do that HERE You have to be ELECTED to office. HE Lost the safest Blue ribbon seat in the whole Nation but as he Infamously said with Gillard. "But SHE won't Lie down and DIE." Abott hates being beaten but especially when it's BY a Woman. He's currently on Rupert's Payroll also. They don't shout that from the rooftops for Obvious reasons. Abbott was/is always in contact with Murdoch. News corpse as always had too Much Influence here. He's got Monopoly Control in Queensland. None of these (MSM) Media People are going well financially at the Moment. They are shedding staff in large Numbers. It's also why Pauleen ( the"P" in PHON )is SO against the ABC and SBS as well as any Journalist who dares to ask hard Questions. She's BANNED them from Interviews.
