What a lot of $#yte!. You ALL buy Chinese Stuff. Acting tough against China won't get anywhere. It's the Mad Bastard running the USA that will ruin the world order and bring on a recession and worse. Check out how much Money the USA owes and to who. The day Angus Taylor adds to the Conversation Meaningfully will never come.. The future of their Party should be what they are thinking about. It's at risk of ceasing to exist.   Nev

Ther is a fallacy in the "you all buy Chinese..." argument. It is the same argment that ecowarriors use vehicles that produce carbon, therefore they are hypocrites. In reality, there are few items you buy where you have a real choice of buying anything other than Chinese. Want an Apple computer - Chinese. Want a Tesla outside the US? Chinese.. So even when you are not buying a Chinese brand, chances are you are buying Chinese made. Often these days, your local retailer wont supply widget x that is not Chinese as they (not you) make the decision on their margins, etc.

Also, there is a difference between acting tough and not endorsing something. By not sending high level diplomats, ministers, or the PM, but lower diplomats, Albo was saying we will be there, but not endrose what you are doing. This is different to diplomatic or political gesticulation or rabble rousing or "getting tough".

Sometimes, you have to put morals, integrity, and principles above short term gain..

It may be the case, but China isn't exaclty a fair economic player either. In fact, at least Chump largely lets you know where you stand. Don't drop tariffs against the US, yuou can be sure he will come a knocking with trying to retrict access to US markets.

Remember when Scomo called on an inquiry as to how the COVID thing started? Xi didn't like that much at all.. Suddenly industries were hit with retaliatory restrictions to the Chinese market - and you can bet if they didn't need Aussie steel and other resources, China would have brought Australia to its economic knees.. All done quietly under quality or biosecurity risks, or similar.

Dan Andrews did attend as a private citizen, but also as an ex-political leader - albeit only a premier. And all leaders know that they have a legacy to that role even when they are no longer in it. Andrews is not stupid, and would know that, too. If Malcolm Turnbull or Scott Morrisson attended, you would be OK with that, too?

I forgot to mention in the above.. He and two other private citizens, bit ex PMs as I recall from NZ, were the only two "private citizens" that were on the "podium". It was clearly only for those who have had political office and therefore, it should have been even more apparent that the capacity he was there was in his legacy of forging relationships with China as a political leader, and out our (or your, as I only pay a little Aussie tax) expense. So, it is a furphy to say he was there purely as a private citizen.

IF you say so. Jerry. No i wouldn't want Morrison  attending. He cost us a fortune Last time he Played "tough guy". Grand standing gets a country  Nowhere. I would have no objection to Turnbull going since you posed that question. I believe the Occasion was TO CELEBRATE THE END of WW2. will Trump be called a TRAITOR when HE goes to China? Real communication and progress is not done in the headlines but by quiet DIPLOMACY. IF there's a Traitor in the Game is the Trump/ Putin love affair in the rear seat of "The BEAST" supporting a Mass Murderer and consistent LIAR.  Nev

There's a difference between going to a ruthless dictators gathering, to further your business interests, and lining up for a major photo shoot with a bunch of those ruthless dictators.

That photo will come back to haunt Dan Andrews for many decades to come, especially if things turn to custard on a global scale.

I found Dan's presence to be a political embarrassment to Australia.

It suggests an endorsement of the Putin/Xi military power.

Remenber, it wasn't some business fest. It was a military power parade. Is Dan in the weapons business? If not, how can he claim he just happened to be there to further his business interests?

Absolutely shocking & offensive to me!

As for 'Things Getting Worse'......

Heres one for you unfortunate Melbournites:

Is Elon out to get you?

According to Auntie, Tesla autopilot is coming to you and already has been unofficially trialed in your streets:

" An apparent test drive of Tesla's automated self-driving technology in Melbourne's CBD earlier this year was not approved.....The post claimed the Tesla even mastered one of Melbourne's notoriously tricky hook turns."

The Tesla even performed peculiar driving feats! But so far there were none of the sudden uncommanded emergency braking incidents or fatalities that have been reported in other countries. Expect further R&D experiments on your streets.
