spacesailor Posted May 26 Posted May 26 I've had five vaccinations, lucky I didn't get the lergi with it . The " shingles" vaccination knocked me down . 36 hours of agony, after the first, and the booster shot . That's the only time I've ever suffered with vaccinations. Now , I'm looking for the " poverty " shot . LoL spacesailor 1
red750 Posted May 26 Posted May 26 I tested positive early in the peice, had the vaccine and 5 boosters. I've had shingles, recently had the vaccine, regularly have the flue vaccine for each new variant. I had the pneumonia vaccine 2 years ago and have been told that lasts a lifetime, no boosters required. 1
Jerry_Atrick Posted May 26 Posted May 26 When it comes to the flu vaccine, I am an anti-vaxxer.. Solely on the basis I don't want to admit my age (and as a result I qualify for it free). 1
red750 Posted May 26 Posted May 26 When you are 80, it's hard to look under 65. Besides, the doctors have my date of birth, so what's the point. They send me a reminder when a new vaccine is released. 1
spacesailor Posted May 27 Posted May 27 what's next ! . Will we have an " eldest " member competition. I'm still only 82 . Just for the next 4 months. ( & a few days ) . LoL I did my little jog this morning ( I used to walk faster ) . Also 50 push-ups & ten ' touch toes ' "got to keep the evil old-age at bay ". spacesailor PS grow a beard , hide the wrinkles. 1
onetrack Posted May 27 Posted May 27 My brothers 85 in September, and he's still going just fine. He's had a major prostate operation, and had a knee reconstruction, in the last 12-18 mths, and he reckons he's better now, than he was 15 years ago. Meantimes, I'm watching associates, former employees and former clients drop off the perch in their 60's and early 70's! I just turned 76, and I've still got 10 solid years of shed building and machinery restoration work in front of me! I can't possibly depart now, or anytime soon! 😄 4
facthunter Posted May 27 Posted May 27 I just started getting my Dexta back into service. Had it since 1973. Perkins 3 cyl. Diesel. NO I'm not going to talk the RENO but will answer any questions. Original and unmolested but some small bolts have to be drilled out. You can still get quite a lot of stuff. "Built in Australia" in 1959. ENFO on everything. (Dagenham).UK. Nev 2
spacesailor Posted May 27 Posted May 27 Crazy little motor bike ! , if memory is still working my grandson loved them , then they were stolen as idiots thought they were worth money . My daughter ( his mum ) rode ' lambretta's ' . Was a bike mechanic . now worth $ thousands. spacesailor 1 1
pmccarthy Posted May 27 Posted May 27 Around here you can't buy a tyre for a ride on mower. You can buy a tube, or a complete wheel with bearings. I had to buy a wheel, for about $70. 1
onetrack Posted May 27 Posted May 27 (edited) What size ride-on tyre can't you buy, Peter? A local bloke supplies a big range of small equipment tyres, but he's not easy to find initially, because he trades as Minidiggers, and deals in all types of minidigger parts. So if you go looking for "mower tyres", he doesn't show up. He says he'll ship Australia-wide. I found him on Gumtree. I got tyres for my ride-on mower for him. I've also got a stack of new mower tyres, can't recall the size at present, I will check tomorrow. Possibly the big problem is you can often buy a complete wheel with tyre and tube for the same price as just a tyre. https://www.minidiggerwa.com.au/ Edited May 27 by onetrack
pmccarthy Posted May 27 Posted May 27 I didn’t check tyre prices on line, just paid for the wheel. As the shop assistant said, saves having to change the tyre! 1
Jerry_Atrick Posted Thursday at 05:34 PM Posted Thursday at 05:34 PM Er.. hard to blame it on her.. it's symptomatic of all sorts of issues outside her control 2 1
old man emu Posted Thursday at 11:18 PM Posted Thursday at 11:18 PM At the risk of being labelled with something I'm not, I have to ask, "Is there a link between the use of machetes and the country of origin of the users?" Not many years ago, machetes were virtually unknown as weapons in urban areas. I hope that if a law is created regarding the possession of machetes, then it includes the words "without reasonable excuse". Those words permit the possession of these things if they are to be used for, say, making a path through long grass or scrubby bushes. It would definitely prohibit their possession in urban areas. 2
onetrack Posted Friday at 12:08 AM Posted Friday at 12:08 AM There's no reason for anyone to possess a machete in urban Australia. Just look at the well-manicured lawns, and the amount of lawnmowers, brushcutters and whipper-snippers we own! Machetes were produced for just one reason, to cut your way through impenetrable jungle. We have no impenetrable jungle in Australia, except perhaps for a few small pockets of rainforest areas, which have no need of penetration, unless its by rescue teams looking for disaster survivors. In which case, machetes should only be owned by emergency rescuers and police. 1
nomadpete Posted Friday at 02:20 AM Posted Friday at 02:20 AM My random thought about a machete ban:- I see no point in creating a specific kneejerk law banning only one type of sharp weapon. Would you rather have gangs fighting with machetes or concealable knives (or hand guns)? At least the machete is an easily seen weapon. Ban machetes and then what? Ban carving knives in kitchenwares shops? The problem people will simply opt for some other sharp weapon. Bunnings is full of potential weapons. Is it too hard to arrest any person carrying a sharp knife or thing, with intent to cause harm? 1 1 1
red750 Posted Friday at 02:53 AM Posted Friday at 02:53 AM For any offence involving any dangerous weapons, there needs to be a particularly stiff penalty, such as 10 years imprisonment with no parole. Just maybe, this may create a deterrent. 1
facthunter Posted Friday at 05:21 AM Posted Friday at 05:21 AM Carrying any concealed weapon in a Public space, should be discouraged. Doesn't that go without saying?. People should NOT feel threatened. Nev 1 1
Jerry_Atrick Posted Friday at 06:56 AM Posted Friday at 06:56 AM Secton 6 of the Controlled Weapons act deals with carrying (concealed or not) controlled weapons, of which a machete is likely to be included: https://content.legislation.vic.gov.au/sites/default/files/2025-03/90-24aa075-authorised.pdf Basically it is illegal to carry one without a lawful excuse. There are different penalties that apply based on where it is carried. 1
spacesailor Posted Friday at 07:13 AM Posted Friday at 07:13 AM I bought one & use it for chopping ' banana trees' down , best tool for that job . Like the ' rabbit trap ' it hangs in the garden shed . Even even my old ' fire extinguisher is illegal. & don't. Look at my old ' fire blanket ' it will frighten you . ( real asbestos ) . So it works great . What's next to be outlawed . Petrol engines ! . ( very dangerous & burns down tobacconist shops. ). spacesailor

spacesailor Posted Friday at 08:44 AM Posted Friday at 08:44 AM (edited) Well !. None of the guns, I, and my reloes had , killed any innocent people . They were deemed illegal , & had to be surrendered. I never let a rabbit suffer when I caught them . Th traps are deemed illegal. My fire extinguisher have never been Used . But Is deemed illegal. My ' machete ' has only cut-dowm 6 or 7 banana tree's . & yet Is deemed illegal. none were illegal when purchased. It's to. Make you. Buy more junk . spacesailor Edited Friday at 08:47 AM by spacesailor Tidying up
