We only genuinely wanted to secede once - in 1934 - but we have threatened to secede several times since - unless you're nicer to us.

Oh, and we nearly didn't join in with Federation, too! We were producing all the countrys gold, back then - and so many Victorians flooded in looking for that gold, we had a name for them - "T'othersiders".

I don't think many Tasmanians have left Tasmania, but I've known a few West Aussies who went to Tasmania and stayed. Cheap houses were the attraction back then, but I think that's changed now, too.

Plenty of younger people leave here for better work opportunities on the other island. Replacing them are retirees moving down for the quiet life.

There's too many foreign migrants down here already and they are watering down our culture.

Isn't that a plus - to extend the gene pool... 2 heads and all of that? :stirrer: :amazon:

Retirees don't generally add to the gene pool, or if they do, their wives get very upset.

Thanks Marty.

So you consider me as a replacement?

And I came here to avoid better work opportunities?

NAH!

At my age, I'm staying well away from THAT pool.

You seem to work very hard whether you get paid or not.

We've had good rains since the middle of July and Perth is already over its July average at 174mm (the average is 172.9mm). The farmers are smiling, the good rains have spread widely throughout the Wheatbelt, except for the far Northern and Eastern regions, which are still light on rain quantities. Overall, it's shaping up to be at least an average season, and if we get good rains in August and good finishing rains in September, the potential is there for an above-average cropping season.

Some areas on the South and S.E. coastal strip, are actually too wet, now - so the aerial urea applicators are making a killing.

Most of us HAVE to work, but would probably rather NOT. IF you must be there, Better it does not drag. IF you don't work, the show goes Bust and then you don't have a job, nor does your Mates.  Nev

Drudgery is work.

But for every worker there is a Happy boss .

Nah, Spacey. I disagree about the happy boss.

I used to come into work with a happy smile on my face..... and it just made my boss grumpy and nervous. He thought I was after his job.

Maybe I shouldn't have left copies of managerial magazines lying around. But it made us workers happy!

(Not making that up)

When a Boss can & did spend $ 5plus million,

Just to replace one shift worker @ $ 70,000 pa .

Leaving two worker doing 12 hour shifts, seems a waste .

Those $5 million  equipment lasted less than 5 years .

Magnificent day today with a top of 19 degrees. The photo below was taken out of the car window when I pulled up at home after the Shed, at 2:45 pm. However, rain predicted for the next few days.

Here on the Left Coast we've had a nice turnaround in the season, with regular heavy rains since mid-July. Perth got 50mm over 2 days in the last week of July, and we've had nearly 90mm in the first 11 days of August. We exceeded out July average rainfall (170mm) with a total of 175mm.

The good rains have gone through most of the Wheatbelt and the crops are looking fantastic. Water is lying everywhere in low spots in big pools, it's like the wet Winters of the 1960's again.

The GIWA crop report will be out on the 15th, it will make interesting reading, I fully expect a bumper grain crop for W.A. in 2025/26, making 5 of the last 6 years, above average to record-breaking seasons, for total tonnages produced. Wheat is the biggest tonnage produced, but canola is not far behind, and has been increasing in recent years.

The bitter cold burst of mid-July has gone, the days are getting longer and sunnier. The forecast is 23° for today and tomorrow, with more rain coming late Wednesday.
