red750 Posted December 30, 2025 Posted December 30, 2025 I know I posted about James Moylen, but I didn't mean for the thread to be dragged off with all this car stuff. 1 1

red750 Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Grateful Dead guitarist and founding member Bob Weir has died at 78, his official Instagram account confirmed on Saturday. 2
red750 Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Rob Hurst, drummer and founding member of Midnight Oil, has passed, aged 70. 2
Jerry_Atrick Posted January 20 Posted January 20 (edited) 70! WTF! I am getting old! 😉 I bought my first midnight oil CD in Czeske Budejovice (pronounced Cheskey Boodeyovitza) in the Czech Republic (Czechia is actually made up by Google, I was told by a Czech who works for me). That was in 1998, while I was working at one of their nuclear power stations. Fond memories of both the place and oddly associating Midnight Oil with the place. Also, my first non-French European landing was at Czeske Budejovice. True story - the sister of one of my then Czech work colleagues, now firend, was the singer in a cover band (she still is an absolute cutey; her brother didn't quite fare so well). I was taken to a restaurant where they played, and on learning I was there, the band riffed AC/DC and Midnight Oil songs virtually all night. The restaurant owner sat with us for a while and asked if I could broker live sheep exports to the Czech Republic from Australia. "Sure", I said, imbibed with local beer. Never happened, though. Sad Rob Hurst passed relatively young. Edited January 20 by Jerry_Atrick 1 1
onetrack Posted January 21 Author Posted January 21 I think I've mentioned this before, but I'm staggered at the number of blokes I worked with in the Vietnam War, who have passed on. This has only been reinforced recently, by entering a FB group for my Squadron, and meeting up with colleagues who contribute to the page - and by finding out from them, about a lot more of our blokes who have died. Quite a few died early, from car accidents, disease and suicide - but most have died between their late 60's and late 70's. Of those who have died, many died from cancer and other nasty diseases. It's quite disturbing. I'm sure ciggys and excessive boozing must have contributed to their relatively short lifespans. 2

That's the very reason younger generations should be discouraged from joining the military. 1

Jerry_Atrick Posted January 21 Posted January 21 I resisted the urge to answer to avoid thread drift... Ahh, it's not just me 😉 I guess sooner or later the orange one will grace this thread without the drift. I know some want sooner, but I don't with that on anyone until their time has come to a natural end. Out of respect to those listed above on this thread, I will leave it there. (Also out of respect to those listed above, I would prefer a separate thread when the oramnge one kicks the bucket). 2

Jerry_Atrick Posted January 21 Posted January 21 Although my phone as no real links to my social media, I am hesitant to visit the USA, which pains me a bit because a good mate has recently contracted Parkinsons and I would dearly like to visit him. 1
