In the old west, cowboys attached lanterns to their saddles to help find their way home at night. It was an early example of saddle light navigation.

Meaning behind little-known roadside marker popping up 'a lot' on Aussie roads For travellers exploring the country, it’s not unusual to come across a road sign or marking that is unfamiliar, especially as different states tend to have their own versions. For one Aussie explorer, it was a roadside marker in Western Australia that left them scratching their head. Details, photos here.

I bought my four bedroom house in Vermont at the end of 1978 for $58,000, and used my long service leave money to pay it off when I left the bank in 1992. The median price in my neighbourhood at the moment is $1.2 million.

Two youmg priests were taking a holiday at the beach. They bought shorts, colourful shirts and sandals to look as far from a priest as possible. They were sitting on their beach chairs when this drop dead gorgeous topless blond walked past in a string bikini. "Good morning, Father, good morning Father", she said as she walked past. The preists couldn't believe it. They went and bought even more outlandish outfits. The next morning the same young lady came by, with the same greeting. One of the priests said, "Pardon me miss, but how did you know we were priests?" "Easy," she replied. "I'm sister Mary."

Goimg back to the early posts on April 1, I said I wouldn't have use for it. I haven't had a meal at a restauramt or hotel in at least 5 years, and since my wife passed away, I doubt I will again. I only drink water based drinks, and haven't had a drop of alcohol for over 7 years. I was never a drinker, and have probably had a total of 3 cans of beer in my 80 years. I haven't had a softdrink in 3 or 4 years. I have a Woolies Everyday Rewards Card, which accrues points and get me a 4c per litre deduction on petrol. I get an email each week listing points boosters on items we frequently buy. For example, we can get 180 points by buying a box of 24 party sauage rolls, which we occasionally have for lunch. At 1 point per $2, that one purchase equates to a $90 spend. I currently have $80 of Woolies money, which I can use to pay for my grocery shop. You just have to click the Boost button on the email. In addition to the fuel reductiion with the Woolies card, my RACV road service membership gives me a deduction on petrol at E.G. Service stations. Fill the tank, scan the Woolies and RACV cards when paying, and have the deductions applied. And usually, E.G. servos have some of the lowest prices around. I also have a Coles Fly Buys card which my wife had, and transferred to me when she died. You can earn Fly Buys points on petrol and other purchases at Shell servos, Bunnings and Office Works as well as Coles supermarkets. My daughter often buys groceries at Coles and uses the Fly Buys money.

Same old same old. Maybe you have a bone to pick, but what were they supposed to do, just let the commies march down and take over here? Then you'd really have something to bitch about.

Donald Trump orders reopening of notorious Alcatraz prison and reveals who will be sent there Donald Trump took to Truth Social to announce why he wanted to reopen the famous prison. Donald Trump has repeatedly insisted that he wants to be tough on crime and criminals, and on May 4, he announced the next step in this plan. He insisted that he was going to be reopening the infamous San Francisco prison Alcatraz. Writing on Truth Social, he said: “REBUILD, AND OPEN ALCATRAZ! For too long, America has been plagued by vicious, violent, and repeat Criminal Offenders, the dregs of society, who will never contribute anything other than Misery and Suffering.” Trump also explained what types of prisoners he would send to Alcatraz if the prison was to reopen. He continued: “When we were a more serious Nation, in times past, we did not hesitate to lock up the most dangerous criminals, and keep them far away from anyone they could harm. That’s the way it’s supposed to be. “No longer will we tolerate these Serial Offenders who spread filth, bloodshed, and mayhem on our streets.” It is not clear how long it would take to reopen Alcatraz prison, or how much of a priority this remains to Trump, but he did explain the steps he is taking to get this plan underway. He added: “That is why, today, I am directing the Bureau of Prisons, together with the Department of Justice, FBI, and Homeland Security, to reopen a substantially enlarged and rebuilt ALCATRAZ, to house America’s most ruthless and violent Offenders. “We will no longer be held hostage to criminals, thugs, and Judges that are afraid to do their job and allow us to remove criminals, who came into our Country illegally. The reopening of ALCATRAZ will serve as a symbol of Law, Order, and JUSTICE. We will, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Trump rules out another presidential run Though he has teased seeking a third term in 2028 despite the Constitution barring it, Trump on Sunday ruled out another run, saying his current four-year term will be his last. “But this is not something I'm looking to do. I'm looking to have four great years and turn it over to somebody, ideally a great Republican, a great Republican, to carry it forward. But I think we're going to have four years, and I think four years is plenty of time to do something really spectacular,” Trump told NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

It was the National Catholic Register. I cannot locate the original article but some of the details are summarised here. https://www.ncregister.com/news/the-father-rupnik-case-a-timeline Father Rupnik is the priest who allegedly raped the nuns, particularly Sister Ana who broke her arm trying to fight him off. When the nuns complained about the possibility of getting pregnant, he said "Get an abortion." Also read about the McCarrck case in this report. https://apnews.com/article/pope-francis-catholic-church-sexual-abuse-2d87fe01e6ede23d403039b9fd3a978f

President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he would be imposing a 100 percent tariff on any movie produced outside of the United States. By doing so, the president wants to save America's movie industry from 'dying a very fast death. 'Other countries are offering all sorts of incentives to draw our filmmakers and studios away from the United States,' he claimed on his Truth Social platform. 'Hollywood and many other areas within the USA are being devastated. 'This is a concerted effort by other Nations and therefore a National Security threat,' the president declared. 'It is, in addition to everything else, messaging and propaganda.' Trump then announced that he is authorizing the Department of Commerce and the US Trade Representative to 'immediately begin the process of instituting a 100 percent tariff on any and all Movies coming to our Country that are produced in Foreign Lands. 'WE WANT MOVIES MADE IN AMERICA, AGAIN,' he concluded. The announcement comes as professionals have struggled to get movies and TV series to be completely filmed from beginning to end in Hollywood due to budget cuts for tax credits on productions. By the end of last year, FilmLA - the Los Angeles agency that handles film permits throughout the city - reported a 5 percent drop in film and TV production in the third quarter of 2024. The 5,048 total film and TV shoot days also represented a whopping 36.4 percent drop from the five-year average. At the same time, reality television production tumbled a massive 56.3 percent from the third quarter of 2024 compared with the year before - and represented a 52.7 percent drop against the five-year average. Drama television production was also down 34.4 percent from the five-year average and comedy was down a staggering 85.7 percent from the five-year average. Television production overall fell 18.3 percent, down also 53.2 percent from the five-year average over the quarter. Now, experts warn, the once-booming city of the stars may be in decline. 'This is not hyperbole to say that if we don’t act, the California film and TV industry will become the next Detroit auto,' Noelle Stehman, a writer and producer who worked on The Sopranos and is a member of the 'Stay in LA' campaign, said last month. ------oooooo0000000000oooooo--------- Interesting that an American Football movie, as yet unnamed, is being filmed atn the Cardinia Park football ground in Geelong.

Clive Palmer is set to retire from politics after his Trumpet of Patriots political party failed to secure any seats this election - despite him spending more than $60million to promote it. The Trumpet of Patriots only secured 1.85 per cent of the primary vote, according to data from the Australian Electoral Commission. On the back of his election blow, Mr Palmer has revealed he will retire from politics and instead focus on charity work. 'I'm 71 and I'm getting too old for politics,' he told The Daily Telegraph. 'I'd rather spend time helping the tens of thousands that are homeless and hungry in this country … that's why I've donated $5million to Foodbank,' he said. The Trumpet of Patriots infuriated voters after sending unsolicited texts to mobile phones across the country. The messages were signed off by Harry Fong, the party's lead Senate candidate for Queensland, and urged people to 'Vote1 (sic) Trumpet of Patriots'. Social media was flooded with people complaining about the messages, with the correspondence ramping up at the start of the week.
