Jerry_Atrick Posted Thursday at 09:47 PM Posted Thursday at 09:47 PM (edited) FFS! Despite spending an amount that would materially add to my pension on the heating in this place, it has bloody well gone again, just when we need it most (so far this winter). In the 7 years we have been here, we have had two winters without any heating; and 4 with a decent interruption to it. This time, there is something wrong with the boiler and it is blowing fumes back into the house. The CO2 detectors aren't ringing, but there is that smell of burnt jet fuel (they are oil burners). A plumber came out and issued a safety notice, so it is illegal to ignite the boiler until it is repaired and signed off.. and he can't come out until the end of next week! Marble Bar, WA, here I come! Edited Thursday at 09:48 PM by Jerry_Atrick 1

Over the next few days most of the southern part of teh continent will suffer temperatures into the mid-40s. And not a single sign of rain to follow. 1
red750 Posted Thursday at 11:49 PM Posted Thursday at 11:49 PM Melbourne is forecast for 40° tomorrow (Saturday) and 42° Tuesday. Ouyen is forecast for 48°. 1
facthunter Posted Thursday at 11:55 PM Posted Thursday at 11:55 PM Ouyen is always the hottest in the state. They must have a candle under the instrument. Cities create some of their OWN Heat. They COULD be designed better in that respect. Nev

Marble Bar, WA, here I come! Is tazzie starting to look more appealing? Whilst the mainland expects 40 degrees, we might reach a more civilised heatwave of 30. We rarely need to turn on the heatpump. What's this boiler thing of which you lament? Sounds like it's as big a moneydrain as an extra child? Edit: Sorry. That's not much of a gripe. But it's the best I can manage in utopia Edited yesterday at 07:27 AM by nomadpete 1 2
facthunter Posted yesterday at 07:32 AM Posted yesterday at 07:32 AM (edited) I'd be a bit concerned about any Place with MANIA as Part of it's NAME. . IF the tide goes out 200' We can walk to there... The shallowness of Bass Strait causes freak waves now and again as the swells come from 2 directions. That can Make the Ferry ride Interesting. Be careful what you disclose - I may be your neighbour and devalue your property 😉 BTW, when we moved in here, we got a uite for a ground source heat pumpo.. £150K.. I'll stick with the boiler and a couple of weeks of shivering when it fails. 1
onetrack Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago That's the problem with very large houses, the sheer cost of trying to keep them warm inside. I hate to think what it must be like, to live in an English castle in Winter. 2
facthunter Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago A Scottish one would be worse, and it would NEED subtitles. IF you have a Big House, close off the rooms you are not using and INSULATE. Nev 1 1

I've known people who've lived their whole life in the Huon valley and never been further than Hobart. So the thought of driving 1000km+ is kind of alien to us. 1
facthunter Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago I Know, I stayed a night at the Pub in Cygnet. I also went to the Playbox theatre in Hobart and was treated like a creature from, outer space as No one knew me. I think the Audience was all the relatives of the actors on stage. You would have to live there for Hundreds of there to be accepted. Even then don't count on it. Nev 1
