I think I found out why petrol in the USA is cheap. Leaving out any taxes that might be applied, the reason is that the lower grade fuel, RON/MON 87, which most vehicle use contains lots of ethanol, which is so much cheaper than petroleum. They do have non-ethanol fuel, which has a higher octane rating, but the majority of vehicles don't require it.

Remember when E10 came in? We were told that it could not be used in engines built before a certain date becasue teh ethanol destroyed rubber seals in various components. I imaging that with the introduction of ethanol-based fuels vehicle manufacturers got the heads-up from the fuel companies and changed over to ethanol-friendly seals.

Remember that we are told NOT to use ethanol fuels in small engines like lawn mowers. I'd like to back what I am saying about the ethanol in US fuel by posting the video from which I learned this. While the title suggests a scam, it is not really. For a quick look at what I mean about the ethanol in their fuel, watch from about timestamp 3:30. If you watch the whole video you will see the simple test the presenter did to make a point of the video.

NOTE: I don't think fuel pumps in Australia are plumbed the way these Yank ones are.

Ethanol itself is High Octane but you burn More of it.  so will pay a bit more. Theoretically you may need to enrich the Mixture as well to Keep things Happy . A lot of cars are raced on E70-85. and run high compression and run cooler. Nev

Diesel is £1.92 where I am. At the mid rates, it is $3.65 at time of writing. Petrol is £1.52, which is $2.89.

3.12 here yesterday.

I never ever use ethanol fuel in my motorbikes and especially in boat motors.

For a boat its critical the fuel is good and and it runs at the right combustion temps. A failure can prove deadly, my marine rescue mates swear a lot of failures are from E10 use.

Nearly anything that Burns can be dumped in Auto Fuel. There's Plenty of Opportunities to do it to avoid excise. Ethanol absorbs  Water and having OH in it can be considered part Oxidised. When any alcohol is added you Need to Enrich the Mixture. More fuel Less Air (Oxidant). Running Lean lowers Octane rating and can Melt and burn Holes in Piston Crowns and Pit valve seats and produce Higher EGT's. Nev

More than double it to convert to OUR Money,. Nev

The current mid rate  (between buy and sell) on the wholesale markets is $1.91 (rounded to nearest cent) to £1

Normally I would take the sell rate as, if I was converting, that's what I would pay.

But since I am earning £ anbd paying £ and you fellas are earning (or have) $ and paying $, it seems better to use the mid rate.

Had a bit of a reality check at the servo today. The last fill was early in the war at $2.20/litre, today was $3.25. The litres dial was moving very slow and the dollars dial moving very fast at the pump. $130 for 40 litres. There must be a lot of prawn trawlers tied up. A lot of money at today's fuel prices to fork out with no guarantee of a catch.

We are Not in NORMAL circumstances and it could get worse.  Imagine the Hullabaloo if that Happened. Perhaps this will get us a bit weaned off fossil fuel where we can be Held to ransom at the whim and fancy of lots of people and have a cleaner World at the same time. Nev

Well, this isn't good.   I live about 5km from here, luckily, so far the wind seems to be blowing away from us.  This surely is not good, given the fuel situation.

Gees, what bloody timing eh and l'd suppose the whole place needs to completely closed until this is safe again now. Maybe they should call Pootin he's been trying to put these things out all over Russia a couple of yrs now must be getting good at it, well if he can still get workers to do it anyway. 😅

l'm sure he'd be happy to hear from us right.   😁

Actually, l've never even heard of a fire at the Geelong plant before.

Not much faith in Chump putting this to bed anytime soon.  Amazing though really isn't it in the world knock on effect it'll have now ,,,, even if he could stop it today they reckon it'll take everything, 12mths min to get back to normal in pricing and supplies world wide and in what we pay for anything not just fuel.

lndustry, trucking, farmers, groceries, the lot, housing and building supplies, everything.

Great job Chump and how bizarre. He won on promising to get their housing down, costs of living, groceries , everything, world respect, it was all gonna be so wonderful.

Here he is blowing it all to smithereens not only for them and not only in this,  but worldwide right through and making himself and country a laughing stock.

Mary Trump Warned everyone very clearly in her book.  How much better off would the World be IF a few more had listened? Liz Cheney is on the Ball also. Nev

There was someone on the ABC radio a couple of days ago saying the high fuel prices might be here for most of the year. I think he was some type of energy consultant.

Might? Certainly the ME won't be back to Normal for a while and Maybe their OIL Market won't ever be what it was. People don't like being Held to ransom OR threatened. Nev

I went out this evening to get some extra petrol before the effect of the Geelong refinery fire is felt. 91 octane at the local BP and the 7-Eleven was at 211.9/l.

Was surprised today had to throw some diesel in on way back at one of those unmanned card fuel stop things , dunno what they're called.

320, was expected one of those things to be 340 tbh.

Servos up here are around 310-312 , atm.
