Gina and her old man are/were just greed merchants of the highest order. Lang Hancock was a money-grubbing grub who used smart lawyer/accountants to initially write up an iron ore royalty agreement whereby he got 2.5% of all monies earned from a number of iron ore leases that he'd pegged - in perpetuity.

 

The second thing he did was set up a major trust to avoid paying any tax on that massive amount of money. So Rio Tinto pays this family multiple tens of millions each year for no effort whatsoever on their part, and they pay zero tax on it - until the Hancock Trust is dismantled. 

 

That's why Gina spent hundreds of millions on lawyers and court cases to stop her children from dismantling the Handcock Trust. She succeeded. She paid her children a few tens of millions to keep them from grabbing more of the billions in the Trust.

 

Gina married an American tax evasion expert, one Frank Rinehart, who narrowly avoided going to jail for tax fraud.

He wound up with a suspended jail sentence. He was a crook who taught Gina all about tax evasion and how to manipulate laws to keep winning unfair gains.

Frank Rinehart was a total fraud, he lived a double life with another woman while he was married to Gina. 

 

Gina believes she's the only one entitled to W.A.'s iron ore wealth, as her family pegged the first iron ore leases - and that everyone in Australia should genuflect to the Hancock dynasty and thank them eternally for the huge efforts the Hancocks have made to build up Australia. The truth is, they're nothing more than 20th and 21st century robber barons.

And who lets her do that. If it upsets you, talk to your government representatives. Sound like a lot have people think the current government is good, partition them for change. A lot of people talk about people they don't like how sky news talk about people they don't like. She is not in jail or been arrested so she has done nothing wrong. Some of her stuff may not be real ethical but you could say that about 1000s of business people. I don't think the current and past goverments (both sides) will do anything wrong because they want to t future prospects.

So how does Gina get rich. How much does government regulation and tax laws contribute to her ability to accumulate wealth. If it's a factor, she's become rich under both Labor and Coalition governments. At the moment she's getting rich under the watchful eye of the precious can do no wrong Labor government. If you have a complaint about her wealth, take it up with them. Whingeing about it here just makes you look foolish. Do something about it. Contact your federal member and take it from there. No amount of social media babble will reduce her wealth and power. Only governments can do that.

So Gina's company pushed their vexatious claim through every level of Canada's legal system and were knocked back each time.

 

Then they went for the last refuge of the mega rich multinational, Investor State Dispute Settlement (ISDS).  If you don't know what that is, research it. Phillip Morris and Clive Palmer have attempted ISDS cases against Australia and thankfully were unsuccessful.

Before you say "go petition your politician", a few years ago I did exactly that, sending emails to every lower house member pleading that Australia not be a part of ISDS. 

I believe that we now do not include ISDS provisions in any trade agreements.

 

But that hasn't stopped Gina from trying to steal $7b from Canadian taxpayers for a project she spent $220m on.

Marty, hopefully some of them got to read the emails. It makes you wonder how many are binned by staff members. I'm not sure if this is accurate or even true, but I was told a few years ago that if you write to a minister directly they are under no obligation to answer, but if you do it via your local member forwarding it on, then the minister is obligated to provide a reply.

Has she done anything illegal. She still employs 1000s of Australians. like I said there is 1000s if not 1000000s of business people whos morals may be questionable but if they are breaking no laws good on them. It is up to governments to fix this sort of thing. Happen in motor racing all the time. The racers push the boundys and if the governing bodies dont like it the change the rules. pretty basic really.
