Jerry_Atrick Posted Monday at 08:27 AM Posted Monday at 08:27 AM Reading that artivle, South Korea were miffed, but Hyundai said they would cooperate and conduct a full investigation to ensure compliance with the regulations. Yeah, the South Korean government were alarmed at the potential treatment, but when you have a lot of people on plant that are foreign workers, you sort of have to check all of them. The hand cuffs and plastic ties are standard ops in the US as they believe their Holywood productions are real. I remember news clips of equivalent raids in Melbourne, albeit on a much smaller scale as they usually involved Chinese/Indian restaurants. But all staff were detained while visas were checked. I guess it is inconsistent to want to control immigration, but to let it slide for large companies. The law should be applied equally and if they are applying and following the law and due process, then we should be satisfied with it. Of course the problem has been there is a culture of just dragging in workers without a visa and theyt tend to overstay the 90 day limit. When I worked (and sort of lived) in the US, I made sure I was in the UK for at least 2 different weeks every 90 days... In that case, it was legit. I was doing consutling (and some sales) work for the company that employed me in the US for their clients, while permanently employed in their UK branch (they were a US company). But, it is too easy to just say, "er, O will stay a bit longer", and the next thing you have been there for years. 1
onetrack Posted Tuesday at 01:07 AM Posted Tuesday at 01:07 AM Criminalising immigrant workers who have done nothing wrong is going to do nothing for the U.S. economy. The Republicans seem to think their primary labour force for the menial tasks is going to come from their "good ol' boys". I've got news for them, the "good ol' boys" don't want to work at menial jobs, they want to be in management, or rolling around the country in their huge pickups and RV's, or cruising in their big boats, fishing, and doing nothing. Descending on hard-working immigrants, who haven't done anything criminal, and who are not likely to, with massive police and military forces, is going to ensure the Americans won't be able to entice the workers they need to Make America Great Again. And it's an interesting thought, that when America was Great (economically, and in world leadership), it was the period from 1942 to around 1960, when women were a major portion of the American workforce, especially when it came to the repetitive and menial tasks. Plus, the highest tax rate in the U.S. was 90% in 1955, too - that went a long way to helping make America "great". But the 1960's and 1970's saw poor American political leadership, and the rise of the greed-driven corporations and their CEO's, and the rise of the military-industrial complex, that saw America decline, as it pursued vast amounts of useless war-mongering, and unjust enrichment of the already-rich in America. 2 1

onetrack Posted Tuesday at 05:40 AM Posted Tuesday at 05:40 AM (edited) Eisenhower actually coined the term in his farewell address. The "military-industrial complex" is used to describe the intertwined network of the military, defence industries, and politicians. Add in "God-botherers" to the description, and you've neatly covered all of America's basic problem. Hegseth is a real worry, a confirmed Christian Fundamentalist of the highest order, and a military veteran as well. Edited Tuesday at 05:40 AM by onetrack 2

I am not anti Jew. I am anti an allegedly civilised government that engages in the tactics that the government of Israel is employing. What is the difference between what the Nazi government of Germany did to its citizens it did not like, and what the Israeli government is doing to its citizens. 1 1
Jerry_Atrick Posted Thursday at 03:53 AM Posted Thursday at 03:53 AM The difference is the Jews in Europe were not hiding behind citizens waging a war against Germany? 1
Jerry_Atrick Posted Thursday at 05:11 AM Posted Thursday at 05:11 AM (edited) Re Charlie Kirk, it would be hard to call it an assassination as, at least IMHO, he does not fit the definition of important religious or political person. Either way, it seems an act of terrorism - Don't say what I like, and I will kill you. The news are reporting this as the ever deepening polarisation of US society. While this is correct, the assumption being made is it is an American resident doing the killing. That may or may not be true, but this has the hallmarks of a professional job.. The shot was extremely accurate from the building across the road.. so things like wind, etc had to be taken into account. Of course, it could be just a good shot or lucky, but I would not be surprised if this was an operative of a state or well trained organisation behind it as the gunman is on the run still.. and although Kirk woudn't have had the security detail of Chump, they did manage to apprehend a person of interest. I have seen a couple of YT vids where he has spoken, and while I don't agree with all his politics, I can't say he had many people being able to defend their position well against him. Maybe some country or organisation whose cause he was against didn't like that. Edited Thursday at 05:13 AM by Jerry_Atrick 1

facthunter Posted Thursday at 06:33 AM Posted Thursday at 06:33 AM Even 1/2 his own People wouldn't VOTE for HIM. He's Just A Murderer who wants to expand his Empire. HE doesn't WANT PEACE. NEITHER Does Putin. They LIE, continually. Nev 1

facthunter Posted Thursday at 09:20 AM Posted Thursday at 09:20 AM IYHO ?? I don't know but I suppose it's Bibi (Netanyahu) WHO you are referring to. Most of the World regards it much as I do. The Doha attack was ILLEGAL.Trump is their Main Backer but not on this one. TOO many People dead all round in the whole episode. What's going on there is a gross attack on humanity and NOT likely to lead to peace, Qatar was where the Peace deals were being made. An American Ally with armed forces stationed there. Now they are Furious and the rest of the ARAB WORLD IS VERY CONCERNED.. Putin does not want PEACE either. They BOTH have MUCH BLOOD on their hands, AND tell LIES. YOU CAN FIND this stuff Jerry IF you cared to. No-one but America has stuck with Netanyahu. Nev 1
red750 Posted Thursday at 09:28 AM Posted Thursday at 09:28 AM Here is a still from a video of Charlie Kirk throwing MAGA hats into the crowd shortly before he was shot. He was a gun fanatic and is on record as saying "So what if a few people get killed, as long as we can keep our guns." Read the signage on the gazebo he was using in his address. I guess someone did. Yes, it's sad that two little girls will grow up without a dad, but play with fire, you're bound to get burned. Despite the adulation being showered on him, he wasn't a good man. 3
