Energy from the sun is a part of the logical choice. It depends on who you talk to.

At present, it's part or the energy mix for pretty much everyone.

For me, and a rapidly growing number of others, solar power is ALL of my energy supply.

(Edit):

And soon solar is also to be fuelling most of my motoring.

For the forseeable future, I'll keep my diesel ute for the big jobs. (Horses for courses.)

being such energy Junkies as WE are

It's true that a First World society is in a position to use more energy than othr societies, but I get a bit sick, as a membr of a 27 million strong society, of being accused of being an environmental vandal when in fact most of the energy used in this world is being used  by the billions living north of the Equator.

The Chinese are actually doing their bit, it's reported the air in Beijing is substantially cleaner than it was a few years ago, and it's all largely due to the huge level of Chinese EV sales.

Trump and the MAGA nutters all claim there's no pollution, and no climate change problems, it's all just made up. Trump believes the Oil Age is going to undergo a renaissance under his leadership.

I have news for him, he's flogging a dead horse, and there's no going back to the 1950's when America burnt oil like it was a totally unlimited, almost free, resource.

Big inch gas guzzlers. Heaps of Gleaming Chrome. Handle like a Pile of Jelly. A lot of their Cars (and trucks) were side valves which is very Inefficient. Fuel was so cheap it didn't matter. Leather seats because the people eat a lot of steak.. Crazy amount of mass to usually carry one person. The Pickup truck is the vehicle of choice  Vehicles about 5 years old were Worth Nothing, even though most of them would still  get you all over the USA without any trouble..  Nev

Pennsylvanian oil  was considered the Best for Lubrication. . Where did you get THAT info from OME? I've Never heard THAT before. The Large Venezuelan reserves are not considered top Quality. Refining these days is not just a fractionating tower. They use Catalytic Cracking and all kinds of things to make what is Most in demand. Most synthetic OILS are Made from LNG.  Nev

From the dark recesses of my dark and twisted mind. Therefore, in the current climate of teh information highway, it must be true. :oh yeah:

If the oil in USA fields is good for everything, what is produced from Venezualean oil?

Venezuelan oil is classed as "heavy sour crude", and is especially good for the likes of asphalt production. It must undergo a lot more treatment to extract the lighter fractions that are used in lubricating oil. Many refineries blend the crude oils from various countries to produce a mixture that is easier and lower cost to refine.

We will need fossil fuels for quite some time but the planet desperately needs to reduce its reliance on these if we are going to survive long term. Trump will be gone in 3 years and hopefully the pragmatists in the US will see that renewables and nuclear energy (though the waste is an issue) are the ONLY way forward. The problem is that it is dis-United with so many MAGA nutters and an education system that does not consider facts that are not American or anything that happens outside of America.

Hollywood has distorted facts and American war movies always show how Americans won everything. Most believe WW2 started with Pearl Harbour. The fact that if the battle of Britain had not been won there would have been no place to create an invasion force. The Battle of the Bulge was only successful due to Montgomery sending 30 Corps South to stop the German Armour from crossing the Muse & taking Antwerp. US generals were scathing of British meticulous planning, engineering expertise and total concern at reducing casualties through innovation etc and Bletchley park with cracking the Enigma code has never really been acknowledged as most Americans believe they did it.

The Poms just sucked it all up as by 1945 they were bankrupt & needed the US so did not complain.

Now Trump has changed everything with his team of ignorant rampant neo colonialists and world dominance through absolute power.

Things are changing though with the UK & Europe finally beginning the re-arm & get rid of the US dependence. Putin plays Trump like a chap violin & Xi just watches it all while seeing his dominance continue to expand.

China out produces everyone especially in new technology with EVs, robots, machinery, solar and wind power and everything else. It is the worlds new high tech factory and no-one can get close now.

Those of us in our 70s & more have seen the best of times. We will all be gone in a few years so hopefully human resourcefulness and decency will eventually prevail.

Let's not forget the only army that actually scared the Japanese and German soldiers were Aussies.

And the first to stop both in their tracks.

Same as Vietnam war, the Vietcong were shit scared of the small group Aussie patrols. The yanks were just hopeless.

Movie and TV from US is generally propaganda eg U571 a bullshit movie about yanks getting the Enigma machine first when it was the British.

Or the recent series Landmen which glorifies oil.

Or Topgun heavily subsidised propaganda by the military.

The list goes on...

If you think Top Gun is bad, check out the Indian version "Fighter" - also heavily subsidised by their military.

At least it has Bollywood dancing as well though.

Were there around a couple of hundred Indians sitting on top of the jets, expecting a free trip home? 😄
