Sir Garfield Sobers, widely regarded as the greatest all-rounder in cricket history, passed away on July 17, 2026, at the age of 89. He Played for Barbados.

None of us are getting out of THIS alive.  While this list here is very active Most of us older folk experience the Loss of People. Friends and relatives we have known for ages and relatives passing on and it gets a bit depressing when you add it all up.  Maybe one gets a bit of Survivors Guilt?  Nev

I wouldn’t say survivor’s guilt but it certainly gets your attention when you start to remember more and more people for who they were rather than who they are.

All living languages evolve. While an academic grammarian would insist on 'whom', a linguist would accept 'who' as an example of the evolution of a language. One could say that the grammarian is pedantic, while a linguist is a realist.

I did a search in case I missed it being posted, but Bill Oddie of Goodies fame (and later a wildlife show presenter) passed away yesterday aged 85.

We showed our kids some youtube of the Goodies, they thought we were insane for watching this. yet they watched shows with a talking slice of pizza theat was friends with a hotdog and a talking flying.

To appreciate The Goodies one had to have been exposed to English humour. The show involving pizza and hot dogs suggests to me that it was American, and we all know that American humour is not as intelligent as that of the British.

 

The British made excellent children's programmes. Did anyone ever watch Worzel Gummage starring  Jon Pertwee and Una Stubbs? Pertwee was, of course the third Dr Who.

David Clayton-Thomas, the unmistakable voice behind some of the biggest hits from Blood, Sweat & Tears, has died at age 84, marking the end of an era for one of classic rock’s most distinctive frontmen.

 

According to his publicist, the singer died peacefully in a Toronto hospital. No cause of death has been publicly disclosed.

Wow..

 

For some totally random reason, a couple of weeks ago, out of nowhere, the thought of young talent time popped into my head. I can't think of the last time I would gave thought about it and I think I watched it once  under duress (wasn't the sort of show teenage boys would watch)
