  7. Well, I'm at the Shed. Tried Ctrl, Alt, Del. It said "No Apps Running". All I had was a red rectangle in the middle of the screen, taking up about 3/4 of it, warning about emerging threats that will pinch your passwords etc. Anything I tried to open was behind the red rectangle with a white border about 3mm thick around the edge. By dragging the corner of the white border, I was able to enlarge it sufficiently to access some info, identify it was something from the PC App Store flogging the McAfee antivirus. By going through File Manager I located it in the Programs folder with an Uninstall program which I ran, then deleted it all together. Back running as normal.
  8. Broken record.

    Quickies part 2

A Spanish teacher was explaining to her class that, in Spanish and several
other languages, unlike English, nouns are designated as either masculine
or feminine.

'House' for instance, is feminine: 'la casa.'
'Pencil,' however, is masculine: 'el lapiz.'
So, asked a student, 'What gender is 'computer'?'

Instead of giving the answer, the teacher split the class into two groups,
male and female, and asked them to decide for themselves whether
'computer' should be a masculine or a feminine noun. Each group was asked
to give four reasons for its recommendation.
The men's group decided that 'computer' should definitely be of the
feminine gender ('la computadora'), because: 1. No one but their creator understands their internal logic.

 2. The native language they use to communicate with other computers is
incomprehensible to everyone else.

 3. Even the smallest mistakes are stored in long term memory for possible
later retrieval.

4. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending
half your pay check on accessories for it.

The women's group, however, concluded that computers should be Masculine
( 'el computador'), because:

 1. In order to do anything with them, you have to turn them on.

 2. They have a lot of data, but still can't think for themselves...

 3. They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time they
 ARE the problem.

 4. As soon as you commit to one, you realize that if you had waited a
little longer, you could have gotten a better model.

 The women won.

  22. And another thing. Now I can't get Google Earth to go into 3D mode. I did a couple of weeks ago and managed to make this print to which I added extra text. Now it will only display in 2D. I read that 3D only works with Chrome, but even that didn't work. . .
  23. Working ion the computer at the Shed today and all of a sudden the screen is covered with some crap saying I need McAffee antivirus, with a checkout screen to purchase, and no way to bypass it Turn off the computer and it comes up again when you restart.Any other onscreen button and you acccept being direct debited every month. No X in the top corner to close the window, no icon in the toolbar. It's a case of accept it or nothing, like trying to cancel the cloud which reactivates itself. Bloody Microsoft virus! Any clues Jerry?

    Brain Teaser

Correct Jerry. For those not familiar with how the game is played, here is a Youtube video of a full episode. It starts with a couple of toss-up rounds then moves to the spins. When a contestant lands on a prize value, they nominate a consonant. If the letter appears in the word, the square turns blue and the young lady touches the square to display the letter. The contestant can nominate a vowel before they spin again and a price (I think $50) is deducted from their accumulated prize. Then they can spin again. If the consonant they select is not in the solution, the spin passes to the next contestant. If the spin lands on Loose a Turn, it passes to the next contestant. If it lands on Bankrupt, their accumulated prize is removed, along with any bonus prize wedges they may have gathered. After the bell sounds, the contestant with the highest total move on to the Bonus Round. Here is the video. It runs for 27 minutes, but you can slide through including the commercials. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ds6K-Xgv-Lo
