Our grid is ok for centralised generation already. So with gas, coal or nuclear we would not have the new grid costs and environmental destruction.

Modelling is not just inaccurate, it is totally unreliable and unverifiable. Models with dozens of input variables are meaningless. They can be tweaked to prove whatever political point you are trying to make

Australia will not hit the targets of 62-70 per cent reduction by 2035 and net zero by 2050 because the logistics of doing so require new forests the size of half of Victoria to be grown in 10 years, followed by further forests the size of two Tasmanias. These plantations are not to be grown in the outback, either, but on existing farmland near the coast.

It is the old Methodist church in Narrandera, which became the Uniting church, now a B&B. She was just passing through the town. We only went there when visiting my grandparents, it was compulsory.

Here's a funny thing. My daughter rang this evening. She is staying in a B&B that is a converted church, and was sitting beside a stained glass window donated by our family name. I told her it was donated by my grandparents, that was the church we attended when I was young, but I had forgotten where it was.

Using the official internationally-recognized death statistics for Three Mile Island, Chernobyl and Fukushima, the combined loss of lives from the three major nuclear accidents is 32 people. In fact, estimates on the number of deaths caused by the nuclear energy sector overall is 90 per 1000TWh—the least of any energy sector.

The Reserve Bank of Australia sold Australia's gold reserves in 1997. The RBA reduced its gold holdings from 247 tonnes to 80 tonnes, netting approximately $2.4 billion from the sale. This decision was made due to the cost of holding gold and the potential for higher returns from other investments. Clever, weren't they? Today that 167 tonnes would be worth $26.9 billion.

This morning the Age gives the latest IEA forecast that under current policies global oil and gas consumption will continue to increase to 2050 and beyond. Coal consumption will peak in the 2030s. Those are realities that Albo should consider when committing us to immediate sacrifices that the rest of the world are not making.

On Trump and America I agree. China is a 'developing country,' and they say they will always be a developing country. Under UN rules China can do whatever they want. They don’t have to adhere to any binding targets. That’s the official Chinese position. They are building wind farms and solar farms, but it’s a drop in the ocean compared to their increasing fossil fuel consumption.
