It would be good to get rid of career politicians in all partys.

I'm not sure that would be a good idea.

It would leave us with government run by hobby politicians.....

Or more likely by oligarcs, in their spare time!

Yes, I thought of that as well. You probably wouldn't want to get rid of all of them? but the current lot from all parties seem to be the most out of touch I can remember. Or have I got a short memory!

Being a federal politician can't be easy.

Imagine the protocols, rules, how policy is developed, getting information from the APS, what to declare, how to bargain with all the others without getting screwed over, your every mistake and misstep scrutinized by the press, working and networking all hours of the day and night.

So if we don't want professional politicians, then we want "normal people" from all walks of life who can also be media experts and able to understand the implications and anticipate consequences of complex legislation.

Which means that in most cases they will be heavily dependent on, and guided by, their staff.

Who elected them (the staff?)

You are going soft now. I never thought you'd have so much sympathy for them.

Everything else Marty said already applies to our current politicians. They have communications teams, speech writers, media experts, are

heavily dependent on, and guided by, their unelected staff.

In due course, once the oligarcs have dissolved democracy and implemented their corporate dictatorships, this debate will be forgotten.

Of course we have "Some" good politicians .You find out if you Look hard who they are, but that's not fashionable. We don't live in a Perfect world, especially Lately so to expect an easy ride is not reasonable in such circumstances. There's a few complete drop Kicks  Nev.

Malcontents and Misfits. Everything's BAD but We can fix it all. The Red Witch and James Ashby make all the decisions. Gina is frequently "consulted" so that her instructions are clear.. Poorlean is doing OK. Check her Personal wealth.  Nev

As more gets know about the way Hanson runs things there will be Many More who wake up to the threat she  poses to Democracy. HER show is run and structured as a Business and Only She and James Ashby control it.. No one else has any say, and she's not by any Means POOR and has no concern for people who are.  Nev
