We - Marty & I - are 43 degrees south which means interesting weather is the norm. Since this is not the Gripes thread, I  failed to mention the (one) warm day was accompanied by gusts of 40kts+ and rain showers. Which has been  cycling daily for a couple of months, without the sunshine. All next week is expected to be the same.

I wish you Southerners and East Costers would share a bit of that wet weather into my neck of the woods. It's been dry here for a lonhg time. Tonight's weatehr radar suggests a bit of light rain (<5mm) might arrive, but there doesn't seem to be indications of greater falls. Perhaps Central NSW is heading for a drought.

Be careful what you wish for......

But I  hope you get some gentle rain. We can easily spare it.

Called the "ROARING 40's". Strong westerly winds.  Nev

I'd never thought much about that old saying about "roaring 40s" before.

But now I realised that 40 degrees south also = 40 kts. Which sure does roar through our trees.

And I just re-read David Lewis's book 'Ice Bird' about sailing around antarctica. He tells me 50 degrees south = 50 kts.

Absulutly poured down! I counted at least 10 raindrops on my car's windscreen this morning. I had to throw a bucket of water over the screen to join up the drops so I could use my wipers.

You might get something in the next week or two, OME - there's a series of tropical NW/SE cloudbands forming across Australia, with Kalgoorlie copping it yesterday from one of them.

Kalgoorlie recorded its heaviest-ever October rainfall - 60mm. However, official weather records only started in Kalgoorlie in 1939, which surprises me, as official weather records usually start in the mid to late 1800's.

The Tasmanian based 'Windeward' tall ship does a similar youth training programme.

There should be more of it, most people haven't heard of it.

Despite my jimmied knee, I went to collect some gum boots (they are called wellies, here) my partner and I lent her for some horse race meet. She asked if we could go for a drive and started to talk to me about a personal boy issue she was having. Our conversation was direct and I really was appreciative of the fact that I have manage to carve ou5 a relationship with her wher she feels comfortable she can talk to me about issues daughters likely don't raise with their dad often.

We went to this pub https://butterleighinn.co.uk/ out of town and shared a cheesey chips for lunch, for her washed down with a lemonade and me washed down with orange juice and soda.

The waitress, from OME's neck of the woods (Warren, west of Gilgandra) was fantastic. My daughter and I found the pub a couple of weeks ago and the waitress remembered our orders, drinks (I had a beer last time) and even the condiments we preferred. How is that for service!!

Great day in the end despite this knee

Best to set them so you can see without correction down to a foot distance and have both the same. Mine worked well and I HOPE your does too.  Correction for reading is 2  or 1.5  Glasses cost about $15. a set. Hardly ever wear them. Nev

Sort of a positive.. My typos are becoming legendary...

Just yesterday, the salutation on one of my emails started with "Fear all,"... F and D are close, and spell checker didn't pick it up.

A few weeks ago, when referencing a big data product, Data Bricks, my typings was "Data Pricks"...  B and P are miles away; someone suggested a Fruedian slip given who I was addressing the email to..

This morning, signing off an email. "Kind retards,".. T is above the G.. Could have been a Fruedian as well..

Take solace that fellow forumites do not suffer alone.

Erm.. last one I officially did (in London) caused a big traffic jam in Reggio Emelia in Italy, very temprarily threatening world supplies of Parmesan cheese (well the first bit is true, the second bit about Parmesan cheese is for effect only).

I think I’ve seen you in a movie, do you look like Bennie Hill?

Just treated myself to this little beastie: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/25219301277695614/?referralSurface=messenger_banner&referralCode=2

Yep, it is old, but at £1,500 compared to others, it is a steal.. and is in pretty good condition. I won't pick it up until next week.. I have aleady insured it (£420 fully comp without any no claims bonus as it has been more than 3 years since I have ridden, but includes Europe wide beakdown cover and helmet/clothing insurance). I already ordered a set of Oxford Pro silcone heated grips at a knockdown price on sale. Will get some storm shields (muffs are too daggy), boots, jacket, glives, trousers next week from here: https://jsaccessories.co.uk/

As it needs its MOT by 18 December, will put it straight in for a service/MOT. The headlamps seema bit dim, so will either replace the bulbs or get LED units. The sprockets are a little on the worn side, but the chain looks OK.. .sidearm is still forward and slack looks good.

The regulator/rectifier has just been replaced and the stator has been rewound (these are common problems on early CBF1000's). However, I may splurge on an uprated stator. They aren't cheap. The tryes will probably last through winter, which is good...

It is a winter hack/commuter for getting me to and from London, without the hassle of waiting 1/2 hour for a train if I just miss one in the morning, and without the 30 minute on average shlep form Waterloo Street to Liverpoos street, whichever way I go, and the timetables where the connectingg service I need seems to pull out just as my service is pulling  in (I am talking transport connections - minds out of the gutter, please ;-))

These are well underrated bikes and except for the stator, virtually bulletproof. The valve clearances were done about 5,000 miles ago, but I will get the mechanic to check them, anyway.

I can do the rest of the stuff myself. Will have to dig out old tools and the bike stand..

Edit: It doesn't come with a top box, but I happen to have one with a plate just like it.

Can't wait!

That, and money is why I am not buying a new bike.

I have ridden my vfr750 in the snow. Would have bought another, but they aren't ULEZ compliant costing me £12.50 a day riding in London
