I watched the movie The Conclave on a plane two weeks ago. Highly recommended, an imaginative story about what happens behind the scene when the pope dies.

AS Popes go this one was Nice. He died of a stroke AND Heart attack. and kept working till the end. Vance had a disagreement with him. (naturally)  Trumps LOT sees Empathy as "Suicidal".  Nev

I think that atheists would find it ironic that a person who spent his life in an effort to gain admittance to the Kingdom of God, would be mourned for getting his entry ticket.

He's mourned because he is not around to further bless us with his good works and will be missed.  PS I'm an atheist.  He exerted a good influence, empathy and caring for the earth and the needy and scorned "Show and wealth". His coffin is a simple wood box  and he won't be buried in the Vatican  but a nearby Italian churchyard.. He questioned Trumps  "claimed" Christianity based on what HE did. Reasonable?  Nev

It's not wrong to mourn the loss of a member of our community, especially one who showed leadership in so many ways. I was trying to point out that death for him might be a joyous thing, but for us it is a loss.

If He believes in the New Testament and HAS behaved a lot better than many others maybe but ALL have fallen short of the Glory of god so by Christ's sacrifice he could reasonably expect to go to Heaven and the Requiem Mass should help avoiding Purgatory even for a short time. I think he lived by what HE believed in.  Nev

Virginia Giuffre, who was trafficked by Jeffrey Epstein as a teen, has died by suicide after troubling Instagram posts.

Her family confirmed her death in a statement to NBC News, saying: 'It is with utterly broken hearts that we announce that Virginia passed away last night at her farm in Western Australia.

'She lost her life to suicide, after being a lifelong victim of sexual abuse and sex trafficking.

Giuffre claimed she was sexually abused by Prince Andrew at the behest of Epstein's associate, jailed British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell, when she was just 17.

The Duke of York has denied the allegation, as has Maxwell - who is a convicted sex offender - while Epstein died in a New York prison in 2019.

One can only imagine the hell sufferers of this abuse go through.. As I recall, the Queen ended up paying her £12m to stop a civil case from going to court to protect her son. Although this was hailed as a victory to Giuffre, it probably shows any of these compensatory vcitories, which includes a tacit admssion from the Queen that her alleged favourtie sone was more likely than not to have lost the case, are very hollow to the victims. May she rest in peace.

When I first started in earthmoving, I knew a rough, tough and crusty old WW2 Veteran, who was a local Shire Council Foreman - and his version, which possibly predated WW2, was the message to any girl - "Do you believe in the hereafter? Because if I don't get what I'm here after, you'll still be here after I'm gone!"

The footy world is in mourning over the death of AFL legend Robert Walls, who won grand finals as a player and coach before ending his life using voluntary assisted dying laws on Thursday morning, aged 74.

Walls - who had been fighting a rare form of cancer - was a giant figure at Carlton, where he won the 1968, 1970 and 1972 flags as a player, before going on to lead the Blues to another grand final win as coach in 1987.

He played 218 games for the club from 1967 to 1978 before switching to Fitzroy, and led the Blues as coach from 1986 to 1989.

He was diagnosed with the rare and aggressive cancer acute lymphoblastic leukemia in 2023 after noticing warning signs shortly before the grand final that year.
