  1. Yes, some birds refuse to eat it unless it's alive and healthy. My mate Zoro, the super model of birds - a Greater Egret, will only eat live fish, prawns and squid. I can feed him live ones, which he will take, but if it's not fighting to get away, he looks carefully and refuses it. Does the smart dog thing of tilting his head to show he is thinking about it and weighs the risk. Zoro will now come when called to fish on the verandah and always hoots to say hello. Funnily if he misses a catch, he will grunt and hoot in disgust as he does if disturbed by others on the dock. He clearly communicates differently for the circumstances. He even has different speech to tell the Night Heron to "fuck off, I am king of the dock". He even hangs out looking inside the boat through the glass door to see what's up. If the doors open he will poke his head in to check us out. He is a absolute character and given he arrived as a adult, he is remarkably friendly for a wild predator. If he catches one that won't fit head first down his throat, he drops it on the dock for us to have. He has done this with really big Garfish, too big to safely swallow. He always orientated the animal to slide down head first, this stops the risk of a fin or spine catching in his throat- that would be fatal. The Cormorant that always fishes under my friend's houseboat is a massive greedy guts and will swallow fish half his weight easily. Watching them hunt blows me away, they can fly underwater faster than most fish ever swim and be under for minutes. A perfect hunter above or below the surface. Sorry the pic is from crap phone. Zoro is 3 feet away, as I drink a beer and he fishes. Note he is growing his Sexy feathers on his back and will soon have bright red legs and his beak will change from yellow to green. Then he will dance the fantango and find a mate. Living on the water in a world renowned RAMSAR bird sanctuary sure has its benefits.
  2. Neither The Rooster came first or no eggs.
  3. Which came first, the Chicken or the Egg?
  4. Awful day.. The sun was shining, dolphins swimming and the birds were in full larakin mode Had a young friend drop in for a fish from mates houseboat. 1 1/2 hrs, 5 Jewel fish, I flathead, I bream. Bloody hardwork drinking beer and chatting. None were big enough to keep bar one who whilst undersized, swallowed the lure, so will die anyway. Jew fish fillets for dinner tomorrow. Life is hard somedays... apparently.
  5. Didn't implode... What about covid..millions died. The economy tanked and promises were bullshit. Trade war with China... And a attempted coup. Lots of bad shit happened
  6. Sadly Bill is probably the best PM we never had. He was principled and brave.
  7. Today was horrible... Calm water, blue skies,, fish and birds everywhere.. But I saw a tourist enjoy their day No more- ban tourists, they might tell others and come.
  8. Today was beautiful sunshine, blue skies and calm water. The fish were jumping and Dolphins cruising the passage. Some young kids caught a 2 ft baby Bullshark - returned to water, on the dock. I hope they gave it a kiss, so it remembers not to eat them in puberty. Sat at my friend's cafe- water views, and read a book with a group of Lorikeets 2 ft away. Did my enforced exercise of rowing the 12ft tinny 500 m each way to dock. Only possible if timed with the tides. The shitty Parsun 9.8 outboard is DOA. New carb and coils, prop, starter unit, service. Or replace with a 15-30hp on a newer tinny? A fishing platform and bimmini would be nice. The tinnytanic had a hole open up from a previous owners excursion at speed into rocks. A trip to the local Aerospace hardware provided salt grade Kneadit expoxy and fixed in 20 minutes. The old Savage is unsinkable with 4 floatation seats built in, each day I thought shit it must have rained heavy last night. Then have to bail for ever. Amazing how easy it is to row after scrapping the growth off and fixing a huge leak. Until it's repaired or replaced, I am at natures whim getting ashore. On a day like today it's magic. Tuesday night however, was a rocking 10knot current with the tide running, fortunately the way I wanted to go. The bugger is like landing a glider, you either be precise and land the ship as you fly past or your fucked and over shoot. No second chance.
  9. The stooge "journalists" had no idea they were paid $100k plus to write fake stories about the Democrats etc was dodgy. I call Bullshit, they knew someone was paying to make up shit and push an agenda that is pro Ruski. Since when do scribes get a sackful of gold for a story?
  10. Man Cave? Black mutt shed? Black Dog kennel.com.au? BlackdogLounge.com.au BlackdogBar.com.au? BlackStumpBlues.com.au? BrainBoxBluesClub.com? OldMate.com.au? Blokes are Y.com.au. As in Y chromosome. Beyond grumpy.com.au? Men's muster.com.au? GreyandBroke.com.au? Chewing the fat.com.au? The back fence.com.au? GrumbleBum.com? Just some site name ideas I came up with. I have not checked if they exist yet. I guess it depends on the "mission" of the site, and the potential for growth if wanted. I am open to ads if they are paid properly to allow growth and money for Ian's time etc. but they must be moderated for truth at least.
  11. No good on a boat but.... I would love to have made a Dalec aka Dr Who shaped one in stainless. Would look very cool. And a minions version also.
  12. The collective noun for a grouping of politicians? Parliament? No It's a Masterbate. For the LNP? A Fuckem
  13. I even would take my son to play on DVD Mary Poppins for the house kids whilst I swept. Blue mtns is heaven and hell for a sweep
  14. As a ex chimney sweep and stove builder, I like it.
  15. At least now we know he is a mammal not a green blooded alien.
  16. Cool little thing for Europe and city work. UP! Much better than a pretentious Commodore- WTF, it's not a Naval battle group or Falcon, a top predator. Far less cardigan than Cedric, Cressida, Crown or Avalon. Not a Gulia from Alfa Romeo, which illicit heart palpitations, winding roads and been convicted of sex with an automobile. It's not 540 BMW announcing in its subtle Hugo Boss suit - don't fuck with serious Germans. But a name that says get UP and get to where you want to be, and German with a smile from a girl fresh from a Berlin dance party. Car names are weird rarely are they even sensible. And a lot of the new Chinese stuff sounds weird too.
  17. Yep he is a greedy billionaire. Straight from the Gina greedy school
  18. I often wonder..
  19. My prediction is .. Cloudy with a chance of meatballs.. Extreme heat summer and big chance of major bushfires.
  20. On stage right.... A Bear comes round trying to cause trouble... And gets swifty kicked in the nuts by a Emu. The Bear runs away screaming Well modded
  21. Heaps of overtakes will naturally effect range but so does full throttle in a ICE engine which will guzzle each time. I dont think it would be a big issue unless you need to pass then slow then pass constantly.
  22. But the cost in Saudi is only a small part of the market cost at the servo in Australia. Every part of the system inflates their profits and manipulates the market on a daily basis. Someone farts in Riyadh and next day it's $2.50 a litre. Those oil barons will happily charge us as much as they can till we bleed, if fact lots of people have died in wars over oil.
  23. Onetrack, For road train passing I expect the EV would be the winner every time. Almost every EV marketed has far superior acceleration than any ICE version of the same car. The max torque is instant and linear, it's not rev dependant, so always is "on cam" and rockets away. Assuming you have some juice on the battery, you could do multiple overtakes and barely notice a range drop at all.
  24. I expect medium and long term the resale of EV's will be excellent. When choosing a second or third hand car, the big issues are running cost and worries about big bills for service or repairs that are either unexpected or big dollars service ie belt changes etc. When EV cars have extremely low running costs and servicing is very cheap, they are big issues in their long term favour. They are also considerably more reliable and have far fewer components to wear out or bust suddenly. And they can be fuelled at home/ work/ shopping centre. Plus as a mobile component of a home power system. And the scrap/reuse value will be much higher as a old EV can become home battery storage. Far more valuable than the metal shredder value for a ICE car. Petrol or diesel is never going to be cheaper but all EV batteries and motors are getting better and cheaper every year. Anybody can harvest fuel at home or even camping if needed with a solar system. It's makes us far less dependent on the industrial capitalist system of big oil and big energy markets. Put simply, if your buying a second hand car the EV is the much better choice, esp if you don't have money to burn.
