  1. What shoes? Their culture had not advanced to shoes, in fact I doubt that it had advanced to culture.

    Quickies part 2

Typical of Christian religion. Pray like mad, pretend to believe in the power of prayer, but really know it is all Bull.
  3. If the west gives Ukraine all that is necessary to defeat Russia, what will happen to Putin? It is fairly obvious that he will be pursued by those investigating war crimes and he will not want that. So what will he do? My guess is that Putin is going down one way or another. The military will wake up to him one day, but will that be before Putin orders them to use nukes? So far the top military don't seem to be very intelligent, if they were they would have realized the situation was out of hand weeks ago. Now we are going to se if they have enough brains to overthrow him and solve the problem.
  4. Not only do the USA elections cost billions, the candidates have many volounteer workers who are dyed in the wool political activists and work for nothing.
  5. I don't think the restrictions on pilots hours are really bureaucratic bull...., they are sensible regulations learnt from accident occurences. As are most of our aviation rrules, except that bureaucrats have taken them over and made them impossible to understand.
  6. Why would anyone listen to Julia Gillard, isn't she involved in banking, which is up there with the anti royalists as the subject to hate? I reckon that if you have a good reason to change to a republic or not change, then you should let us know. I have no desire to change because someone suggests it without giving a reason. My desire for change is that I find it stupid that our head of state is not Australian. My reason to stay as we are is that the present system works well, although i have my doubts about the present G.G. The other reason is that I cannot trust those in authority to be looking after the interests of Australia. Remember that a past PM installed a G.G. who was found to be so disliked by the ordinary people that he had to be dismissed. That G.G. was an archbishop, which shows how good religion is at looking after us.
  7. The same applies to internal combustion engines, more speed as they developed more power.
  8. Well that would make a lot of people happy and no doubt after the event they would be extolling Charles as being a good king My personal prediction is that Charles will die.
  9. Are we ready for a republic, with a President. Just today I read that the Welsh are going to have an anti monarchy protest in Cardiff when Charles is there. They don't like the way he gave William the title of Prince of Wales, while the Queen was lying instate. I think a lot of Aussies are similar to the Welsh, in that they don't think through what they are proposing. Maybe the Welsh are just being politically correct, as denigrating Charles seems to be the done thing.
  10. Increased motor rpm must result in more gears and therefore extra weight.
  11. Race callers in England used to start off with "Their off" but had to desist when a young lady fainted because she thought he was referring to her underwear.

Probably for the same reason that Victorians get upset when you pronounce Talangatta the same way as Coolangatta, but don't follow suit with Wangaratta.
  13. The focus here seems to be compliance with road rules and actual proficiency in handling the vehicle. I think we need to concentrate more on drivers mental ability. When I drive I am constantly assessing what others are doing on the road and it amazes me to see the time lag between something happening and some drivers reaction. This applies to actions by other drivers and also to the driver himself doing something and not being able to work out if it is correct or not. A good example is the driver who wants to overtake. He will get a good long stretch of road, move out for a look and can't make up his mind, so he pulls back in, then repeats and finally overtakes just as he gets to where he is going to be the wrong side of the double lines. No doubt he would pass a test if he had to,but is he roadworthy? Decision making and lookout are in my opinion are the most important factors, handling the car should be just about second nature.
  14. I have expensive hearing aids and they don't satisfy me. TV is hard because there is often background noise or music and also the presenters annunciation can be poor. Comedians always seem to slur and speed up the punch line. Telephones are OK except when I get an Asian on the line. I will have to look into speakers or headsets for TV. It may be an answer to some of my troubles. The hearing aid suppliers are just pushing more and more expensive options. My Grandsons wife did the training with one of the hearing aid people and she couldn't come at pushing people into more and more expensive options so she got out of the job.

    Quo Vadis?

Why not speak ill of the dead, if you thought they were a holes in life why would you change our opinion. The one thing that gets me with the dead is that there are some which we think we should have commended while they were with us and regret that we didn't. I have taken to talking to some of my friends and telling them that I respect them for what they are.
  16. What the driving test does not show and what is difficult to teach is in my opinion the main cause of accidents and that is decision making. I can't remember how many times I have followed someone on a highway and wondered what is going on in their head. Their decision making is obviously lacking from someone who is further from the decision requiring position.
  17. A white bloke who told me he was an aboriginal custodian of one of our national parks, admitted that he was not abo, but his wife was and the tribe accepted him as an abo.

    Quo Vadis?

The Aussie prime ministers may have aged over their time in office, but that was because their main aim was to be re elected. The Queen never had that problem. She had a job for life and did it magnificently, which is more than the PM's did in their short stay in office. She alone seemed to maintain sanity, while all around her the Leaders went mad.
  19. If as everyone wants the Ukranians do overcome Russia, what do you think will happen? Do you really think Putin will fold? I think he is mad enough to resort to nuclear weapons and the only sane way out of that situation is for the Russian generals to get rid of Putin. Will they do it? Do they even see a reason to do it? Maybe they are as mad as Putin. I cannot see Putin doing a Hitler when the time comes. But if he did I would be the first to make a donation for the petrol to speed him on his way.
  20. OK Your post has me wondering, what happened and why? How does a Vietnam vets ruining his wife's life have anything to do with his daughter being thrown out of home?
  21. I remember Georg VI and only just missed out on Georg V
  22. Within 25km of a city centre where I live public transport is non existent, except for the school bus. A car is essential for everything. This means that young people need a licence as soon as possible and they already drive an old bomb down to the property gate to catch their school bus.
  23. Or Mt Connor? We have to revere the Aboriginal culture, but what defines culture and did the Abo riginals have any?

    Quo Vadis?

I don't know if Charles collected money in plastic shopping bags, but what if he did. He has not been in a position to benefit anyone donating to him and he will no be in that position as King. A large part pf the population would like to see Harry or William as king and maybe they will see William at some time, but Kingship is not an elected position. From what I see of the republics around the world, most of them do not stand out as models to follow, in fact the main feature seems to be their corruption.
  25. I recently found out that my Grandmothers brother was a CSM in the great war and her sister, my mothers aunt married another CSM in the same regiment. I knew both of them and they were very quiet and never aggressive. I was amazed when I found a photo of them, with all the other warrant officers in their regiment.
