I can also understand it from his point of view. Googling can at times bring up posts from this forum at the top of the list, and anti-Americanism on this forum is heavy to say the least. I'm surprised more Americans haven't come on here to put their point of view. It wouldn't be easy for them to bite their bottom lip and resist giving a spray.

I don't think Down East is a troll and I welcome his perspective. His rebuke was based on fact. Yes, he went aggressive on it, but no one has so far disputed that fact. It is easy to blame the US for everything, but as I have mentioned on the What has Putin Done now feed, the Europeans also caved in.. 

 

The "insult", IMHO doesn't detract from his point, although I agree, we should purely play the ball and not the man. "That is complete crap".. would be better but remember, the US have different cultural norms and the term used, "you are full of it" is in context of what you have presented usually, and not a general aspersion (although, yes it cane be in certaincircumstances)- but that was predominiantly the west coast for me. East coast could be different.

 

And I am sure some will say I am full of it now 🙂

You forgt the role the fourth pillar of government - the press - plays. The press today is increasingly partisan and and misleading in their approach, and this is the primary method of informihng the public, who are increasingly time pressed just keeping their heads above water - exactly as the politbureau want it, I would suspect. so...

IMHO, is spot on and applies to others I can think of - ScoMo, BoJo, and even Putin when it was more ore less democratic in Russia for that very short window.

On Wednesday, 91 Octane petrol at my servo was $1.69 per litre. On Thursday it was $1.79 per litre. Today, Friday, it is $2.17 per litre. I don't think thesero got a delivery yesterday from the bulk depot less than a kilometre away. We all expect to be ripped off by the oil companies, but the only reason thedo it this week is because Trump started a war to soothe his ego, or was it to deflect attention from the Epstein files.

I filled up today and it was a lot cheaper than I thought it would be. Diesel was $2/litre, up about 20c. Petrol was $2.05 and $2.10.

I filled the Camry and a couple of jerrycans up on Monday - Costco at Perth Airport was a veritable madhouse with queues for a couple of hundred metres and more - and a heap of empty bowsers.

They were charging $1.48 for ULP and people were filling six or eight jerrycans, and every container they could lay their hands on, by the look of it.

 

I left without filling up, and went to Atlas Fuels nearby, and paid $1.52 to fill up. Even at that, numerous Atlas pumps were dry. It was a long weekend here last weekend, so possibly made worse by that.

I fueled the Hilux on Tuesday morning at SOLO and paid $1.60 for diesel - but since then, I've seen both ULP and diesel selling at close on $2 a litre.

 

Costco is up about 5c L today for ULP, and still the cheapest by far - but I'd expect next week, the price will be up another 10c.

I'm fortunate, in that I've got about 300-400 litres of diesel stored in my yard in the wheatbelt, I might be digging into that reserve for the next few weeks, I think.

You're lucky over there onetrack with those regular prices. We haven't seen prices that low for many, many years. If it ever gets as low as $1.80 here, that's cheap.

A bit of context: fuel has been cheap lately (1.80ish) and now diesel has gone up to not much above it's normal price. Most of the time I'd pay around $1.98 for diesel.

Yeah Willie, I've always been puzzled why QLD has high fuel prices, bit of an oil company rort, I would think. I can recall when QLD had the cheapest fuel in Australia, about 5c or 6c a L cheaper than anywhere else, when fuel was less than a $1 a L. I think it was because QLD had no state tax on fuel, unlike the other States?
