Grumpy Old Nasho Posted May 14 Posted May 14 (edited) Yes we're owed an apology, a very public one, one that needs to run for about the same duration as an ANZAC Day ceremony, citing all the wrongs and violations of human rights, the failings to recognize conscripts as human beings, the abuse in it's various forms that made conscripts feel like second class citizens, the absolute failure to reinstate conscripts back into employment and society. I wrote letters in the 80s and 90s, I sent emails later when we had emails as a means of communication. I was rebuffed every time. Hence the curse, which has it's own steady momentum and doing what I've directed it to do. It's out of my hands, and if I depart this Earth before it's job is done, it will still have a life of it's own. My death alone will not dissolve it. A half job won't cut it either. It must be a sincere apology that resonates throughout the whole of the population and society, no half measures, no political expediency, and no more contempt for those they believe are below them. facthunter Posted May 15 Posted May 15 Plenty of us have suffered great injustice and discrimination.. IF you don't get over it , the rest of your life will be ruined. Nev 1 1
spacesailor Posted May 15 Posted May 15 I agree . They ruined my life . Bureaucrats. Sitting on their stools, fing ways to look busy . And to hell with the problems they create. More work for them selves. A Queen of England outlawed the " conscription " of her time . So , the Bureaucrats changed a name & reinstated the " press-gangs " of old England. spacesailor
old man emu Posted May 20 Posted May 20 Wow! The Liberal NCP coalition is no longer. Obviously they will both vote against anything Labor proposes, but now there does not appear to be a way that those of a conservative political bent will be able to gain government. 1
facthunter Posted May 20 Posted May 20 IT WAS always a "Marriage of Convenience". Done with the specific aim of keeping Labor out of office. Country People think City people Haven't a clue. Farmers are the biggest Gamblers in the World. Nev 1
red750 Posted May 20 Posted May 20 I was watching Matt Canavan and a girl from the Libs on TV. Poor girl couldn't get a word in. Canavan just kept talking over the top of her. 1
facthunter Posted May 20 Posted May 20 He's like that. Puts fake grease on his face and dresses as a Tradie. VERY Pro Coal. Nev 1 1
Marty_d Posted May 20 Posted May 20 They were rooted either way. The Nats are the weird uncle who refuses to do anything about the climate disaster. So the libs couldn't do anything remotely realistic about it. Which is why they lost a shedload of seats to teals and didn't get them back. Their only hope is to drag themselves into the 21st century and run on a truly centrist platform without the culture wars bullshit and the pro-coal idiocy. And for chrissakes forget nuclear, apart from a few die hard enthusiasts no one wants to hear about it. 1
old man emu Posted May 20 Posted May 20 I can't find the current figures for the number of seats that are now held by either the Libs or Nationals, but I have a feeling that the Nationals have more. If that's the case, wouldn't they become the Opposition, and put the Libs on the crossbenches? 1
red750 Posted May 22 Posted May 22 It appears that the split in the Coalition started before the election when Jacinta Price defected from the Nats to Liberals. This left the Nats with less than 5 senators, and therefore they did not qualify as a party, losing a lot of perks. A letter was sent to try and find a solution without success.
facthunter Posted May 22 Posted May 22 This "ability" to defect raises a lot of questions. I can't see HOW it's acceptable. Nev
old man emu Posted May 22 Posted May 22 1 hour ago, red750 said: This left the Nats with less than 5 senators, and therefore they did not qualify as a party, How does that work? There is a number of seats occupied by the only person elected from a Party. 1
Jerry_Atrick Posted May 22 Author Posted May 22 There's probably a minimum number of seats in either house before parliament recognises the political party for the purposes of allowances and support.. If you type this into Google, it will give you an AI response for House of Reps.. "australian federal parliament rules regading recongising a party bor purposes of allowances"
red750 Posted May 22 Posted May 22 In addition to Jerry's link, read this link which contains the letter from the Nationals. https://www.skynews.com.au/australia-news/politics/leaked-letter-reveals-nationals-threatened-liberals-with-coalition-split-over-senator-jacinta-nampijinpa-prices-defection/news-story/1f1c6e8d8c4e9c04e2f0f1eff1d356cd
old man emu Posted May 22 Posted May 22 Correct, Jerry. From Red's reference: As a result of her defection, together with the severe drop in Liberal Party vote in New South Wales, from 1 July 2025 The Nationals will hold only four seats in the Senate. “This is below what is required to maintain party status in the Senate as a party that is ‘part of the Government or the Opposition’ under the Parliamentary Business Resources Regulations 2017. 1
Jerry_Atrick Posted May 24 Author Posted May 24 The former idependent member of Goldstien, Zoe Daniels has formally requested a recount after Tim Wilson took the honours by 260 votes. Given the AEC spotted an error during the count to Ryan, it is probably not a waste of time. 1
old man emu Posted May 24 Posted May 24 Apparently, if the difference in numbers of votes, after distribution of preferences, is less than 100, a recount is automatically begun by the AEC. That's happening in another electorate. 1
onetrack Posted May 25 Posted May 25 Matt Golding has a great cartoon about Albo and the Nats in the Nine Entertainment Group media..... I love the "Nats ticket" seller who looks like a sheep. 😄
