facthunter Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago Why Peel them? The skin is the best part Plant a small one and see what Happens, but I don't Know. Nev 1
old man emu Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago I was making mashed potato, so didn't want the skins. Even so, there were no eyes on the spuds to plant. 1
ClintonB Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Over on the coast, I find spuds don’t keep well. They shoot sprouts all over in the bags. i planted some Dutch cream ones in a pot. Got a heap of small spuds. Plant grew too quick here and was wilted on top when I dug them out. I used to grow them for over 3 months until the plant died and you dug them. maybe the temp and humidity here make things run their course quicker. 1
facthunter Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago A spud MAY Propagate without eyes, Easy to find out. Bits of anything will often sprout. Nev 1
onetrack Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Spuds don't handle heat and humidity very well at all. On Cocos and Christmas Island, they struggled to survive the trip from W.A., and if they made it, they went "off" in days.
facthunter Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Bad luck for Irish Crew then? Been to both of those Atolls/islands. (tiny dots in the Indian ocean) many times. Loved it. Nev 1
