Where's the F "N"?  Nev

Nev, it's like Scrabble. You get so many letter tiles. If you can fit them into a word, so good. Sometimes you can't. If you want to make a word but don't have one of the letters, too bad. If your answer 'intake' had been correct, the N tile would have been used. As it wasn't, obviously 'intake' wasn't the correct word.

It would be easier to do a B747 endorsement than Understand this .  Nev

Careful Nev, you're starting to sound like GON.

Watch this Youtube video of a bonus round. After the woman spins the prize wheel, they cut to the puzzle board. The 6 given starting letters, R, S, T, L, N. E, appear in the lower left corner. If any of those letters are in the puzzle, they are turned on by the hostess. The contestant then selects their 4 letters, Again, the correct letters are turned on. Based on the displayed letters on the puzzle board, the contestant has to guess the puzzle in 10 seconds to win the prize.

More specifically, if any of the letters at the bottom of the screen are contained in the solution, they will have been placed on the puzzle board. If they are not on the puzzle board, they are not part of the solution.

Here is one a bit different. There are lots of words in the English language which have silent letters. The G in gnome, the P in psalm, etc. Have you any idea of the most common silent letter?

Posted

Yes, I'll give you that, but E is the most common letter, and often used to change the pronunciation of the the word, as in ton/tone. But there are other letters which appear to have no purpose and could be omitted without changing the word. eg. P in Psychology.

OK. One of the most common silent letters is G when combined with N. Examples : GNAW, GNAT, GNOME.    Crossword Clue Helper lists 121 GN,, words.

But that's not the biggest list. Merriam-Webster Scrabble lists:

Words that start with KN: knap, knar, knee, knew, knit, knob, knop, knot, know, knur, etc.

Merriam-Webster Dictionary lists 387 words that start with KN
Knife, kneel, kneeling. knack. knackers, knackery, knead, knowledge, to name a  few.
