As for Atheists cramming stuff down peoples necks, I have found the exact opposite. Religion scares the hell out of people. "There will be fire and brimstone and gnashing of teeth" And eternal hell and damnation . All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of god so that's where you are going if you don't believe etc.. That's pretty heavy stuff especially when you give it to young kids when they are most impressionable

An atheist says "I don't believe your god exists, or anyone else's by the way." They are obviously prepared to forgo the benefits. How can you compare the two approaches? Why is it any skin of anyone's nose?. Most atheists I have come across are rather quiet about it, being a bit fruitless mentioning it amongst what some call themselves "Godbotherers" (Not my words). I go to church funerals and sometimes give a eulogy out of respect for the dead if asked. It shouldn't be a big deal. The priest is well aware there are some who don't believe and they don't take the communion.. There are a lot more atheists around than you might think and even in muslim countries. I don't think you have much to fear from them. If you need everyone around you to share YOUR beliefs of a diety, then you might be a little insecure, I would suggest. Nev

Established medical "Method" has it's own inertia. People get in the system and find a comfortable spot where they do NO new things, just do procedures (sometimes not needed) to get the kids through UNI or replace the Aston and pay the mansion off. The FDA in the US is supported by the large Pharmaceuticals who have a lot of pull in the system, directed to maximising consumption of their drugs most of which have significant and harmful side effects. Some do benefit but shouldn't be relied on long term. Many pain killing drugs are kept on for years and that is not the way they were intended to be used. Good medicine addresses the whole person and the environment they inhabit. Nev

I would imagine that making a true assessment of a lot of scientific matters would be difficult if burdened by some strong belief that you had of a FAITH nature, that was in conflict with it. Through history the discoverer of natural phenomenon had to be careful, being almost always opposed by the churches who attributed many (if not all) things to the direct hand of god. Most of us now would accept many things as being scientifically explainable and attribute less to God's intervention directly. Would it not be logical to expect this trend to continue?. The amount discovered in the last 100 years would probably exceed all the previous knowledge before that. With computer power increasing exponentially we have new possibilities of discovery never believed possible a very short time ago. How could it be that this new knowledge would not continue to change the way we do things as it already has? Nev

The mind doesn't like unsolved issues. In the forces they say "Make a decision man, even if it is the wrong one. Don't procrastinate". That way you appear decisive and the men under you have confidence in you (so the story goes). That's OK for a situation in the field (perhaps) but not the best logic for finding the real answers long term, to life's issues.
