red750 Posted 15 hours ago Author Posted 15 hours ago I have had two Facebook accounts. The first used my first and last names, and was used to keep in touch with family, friends and former colleagues. Meta closed it down, possibly because I made too many derogatory comments about Trump. I opened another account using my middle name as surname, but that was also eventually closed down by Meta. However, when my wife died, her account was not closed, so I use it. I have not linked anyone to it and have not made any posts. Her former colleagues are still linked and they would question how she could be posting to it. I use it to get things like the picto-grams and geometry puzzles I have posted in the Brain Teaser thread, jokes I post in Quickies Pt II and silly photos posted on this site. When I left school 62 years ago, I had failed Leaving Certificate, now known as HSC, so knew nothing about new maths. I had never learnt about BODMAS or PEMDAS, and didn't know about factorials, denoted by an exclamation mark (5 x 3!). I only learnt about these through Facebook. Many people rely on Youtube for all sorts of information. I visit it occasionally for videos of specific things, but keep up to date with Facebook, particularly what lots of Americans think about Trump. There are also lots of comedy reels, such as Whose Line Is It Anyway, and other comedy clips. You don't have to post on FB, but you have to have an account to see much of the stuff on there. You don't even need to use your name. I had one friend who called himself Russ T Nails, another colleague who used their initials, Kay Elle Ess. 1
willedoo Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Inyourfacebook. I use it on a daily basis with just the one account. Mainly for Marketplace and accessing special interest groups; one of which I'm the founder and co-administrator of. The other main use is FB Messenger for keeping in contact with people. I'm in almost daily contact on Messenger with a best mate I've known since we were kids playing in the mud with our toy soldiers. Messenger gets an extra workout during football season. We were both captain and co-captain of the school football team, and usually are both watching the same games on TV every week so there's a lot of running commentary going back and forth on messenger during games. Nothing beats a good old fashioned phone call for keeping in touch, but Messenger is good for more regular low key contact. There's plenty of special interest stuff on Facebook. A couple of Indonesians I follow, one in Java and the other in Borneo, are classic and vintage motorcycle enthusiasts and it's interesting seeing the photos and videos they post on an almost daily basis. They're mainly old British bikes, Ariel, AJS, Matchless, Velocette and BSA with the odd German bike as well. I think most of the old Harleys that were in Indonesia have been hoovered up by the Americans over the years. They were on to them back when I was there in the 1980's.
