No real surprise. He's been talking about it for weeks.

Apparently they've captured Maduro and his wife and flown them out of the country. I wonder if that's legal?

I'm not sure this will go down all that well with the MAGA crowd, even if the only aim was to get Maduro (oh.. and all that oil of course). They thought they'd voted for a Nobel prize-winning Peace President.

I'm sure that Trump will be able to quickly and blithely explain to the MAGA doting adherents, that he had no choice but to bomb the crap out of Venezuela and capture Maduro, because Venezuela had declared war on America, due to all those Venezuelan drugs bombarding the U.S. - and the MAGA doting adherents will lap it up, and cheer him on.

I just tuned in.

I think all this talk about a war is misguided. Or maybe lefty propaganda.

Mr trump promised 'no more wars'.

It is not a war.

Recent events in Venezuela are simply a Military Operation carried out purely to save the lovely people of that fine country.

How could anyone believe that oil has anything to do with it?

PS, can anyone please post a list of South American goverment changes where USA played an active part?

Unfortunately such a list would require more bandwidth than this site has in order for that list to be posted.

Former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández, who was convicted of drug trafficking, was pardoned by President Donald Trump on December 1, 2025. Hernández had been sentenced to 45 years in prison for his role in a scheme that imported over 400 tonnes of cocaine into the United States.

Very few people would be sorry to see Maduro go, but what happens now? Trump said the US is going to ‘run the country’ until they get a suitable government installed. They are also going to manage the oil production. Sounds like a recipe for chaos, especially if fighting breaks out between rival political factions.

His prospects for a Nobel Peace prize are starting to look a bit bleak, but on the positive side his prospects for a referral to the International Criminal Court are looking much better.

Yep, what a great move. A special military operation to remove a threat to stable Govt - which Govt, only the invader can provide. Straight out of his best mates playbook.

The only thing missing is the Nazis that were threatening the countrys democratic stability.

The ironic thing about what Trump has done is that the majority of Venezualians are celebrating the arrest of Maduro.

But remember that a lot of Sudeten Germans celebrated when Hitler annexed the Sudatenland.

I have to admit, I haven't been following this closely so really can't comment too much. But I did note a headline on The Age's website yesterday that the Aussie Vebeuelan population were cheering Chump on.

I haven't read the article so going by the headline, Chump may be doming demoicracy a favour? Optimistically wishful thinking, I know.

They are, but a lot are celebrating very quietly because Maduro's regime is still in control and nobody knows what's coming next, least of all Trump.
