The alternative is worse.

If for example you surprise a skinny harmless person who thought the house was empty and was either stealing or looking for somewhere to sleep... I don't think someone who kills a person like that should be exempt from prosecution.

The problem is that you will probably have to defend yourself in court. The time and cost for a successful legal defence will transform your life, when all you did was physically defend yourself.

The "castle" doctrine does not change this. Even that article effectively admits it. It would be very dangerous if it did

Maybe the yanks should understand if you want to be all biblical about things when it suits you, you should be able to wear the consequences.

Was there not a quote in the bible that you will reap what you sow. If you sow the seeds of hatred, you have to expect that hatred will be returned.

they ( the yanks and most other religious kooks) love to push their views and interpretations of them, but are not so good at receiving the results in return. It is very hypocritical of them.

Hey y'all, you gotta understand, this here killin' of Charlie Kirk was a perfect example of how the God-Given 'Merrican Constitution works just fine, to protect the freedoms and liberty of every 'Merrican man and woman!!

You see, that Robinson guy was truly fearful of a tyrannical gubbmint coming to get him, threatening his hard-won freedoms, and taking away his hard-won liberty and human rights!!

He was truly fearful of a vengeful Kirk and his Big Buddy Donald Trump coming to take his gay and transgender rights offa him, and probably even looking at not being able to get a job, all because of that Tyrannical Gubbmint!!

So he did exactly what any gun-loving, red-blooded 'Merican Patriot would do! He killed that TYRANT!! - and exercised his fabulous, God-Given Second Amendment RIGHT, to fight back against a TYRANNICAL Govt, that was a-coming to get him!!

This guy is a hero! - not a murderous killer!! I hope some good ol' Second Amendment-loving lawyer explains all this in fine detail to that TYRANNICAL prosecutor!! - and that Robinson guy is set free, lauded as a terrific PATRIOT, as he should be!!

Hallelujah and Amen, Brothers in Christ! God works in mysterious ways to ensure that the Land of the Brave and the Free, stays that way!!  :stirrer:

It's a spectrum. You can't ban left wingers and right wingers because there's no one remaining.

The spectrum probably needs updating, more conservative vs progressive these days, but where 'centre' is depends on your perspective.

In terms of the US, my view is that the Democrats are slightly right of centre, Republicans are so far down the right wing fascist path that their whole democracy is stuffed, and the only true left wingers left are individuals like Bernie Sanders.

Meanwhile, the evil empire scores another scalp.

Trump and his sycophants hate late night comics like Colbert and Kimmel because they speak truth and don't kowtow to him.

Now another spineless media company has crumpled and given in to him.

It's disgusting.  Every company is running scared of him.

In WW2 the US stood up to fascists, who were attempting to kill all the Jews.  Now the US is becoming fascist and Israel is committing genocide.  Total reversal.

A member of me team recently returned from the US - Portland, WA. In his observation, the average American doesn't really know or care what is going on in the Whitehouse; with their government. It is a bit like most people everywhere. People just go about their daily lives; they vote and then they wait for the next election to vote.. that is their participation in democracy. Unless something directly affects them, they see the news, and go about their daily life. The news they see is 1/2 hour a day in the evening, like most people; they see their social media channels, more revolving around lifestyle or interests than politics.

Which is why Chump is a product of society. Execs are not kowtowing to Chump.. they are doing what they are paid to do.. get the best value for their shareholders. If it would cost them more to kowtow to Chump, they wouldn't.

Kier Starmer slupring up Chump's posterior so much, his nose was poking outside Chump's mouth showed how utterly powerless the UK has been. But it is also symptomatic of how spineless the west has become. At school and at home, we are taught to stand up to bullies, otherwise they will just keep doing it. But for some reason, as a collective society, we seem to have lost our spine to stand up to bullies, accept it is going to hurt, but know in the long run  it will be less pain - because the bully will continue otherwise. We have seen it play out with Russia and we are seeing it play out with Chump. The unprecedented second state visit to a royal family who are probably less receptive to Chump and his cohorts than they were to Gadaffi - as an attempt to placate the bully and curry flavour - simply has emboldned him, and after showing the UK as a gutless bunch of arse lickers has achieved no relative benefit. Tariffs are the same as they are for most countries, Chump and his cohorts -0 including Farage - continue to belittle the UK (and other countries), and their coercive efforts become intesififed and brazen.

Why do they do it? Because they are scared if standiung up to Chump will heap on some short term pain, the electorate will vote them out - because the electorate collectively won't like any pain.. only gain. In truth, and it is probably by design, more and more of the electorate can't afford the pain as it won't just mean a drop in living standards over discretionary spend, but it will mean they can't put food on the table, keep up the excessive mortgage payments and can end up hungry, homeless, or both. Either way, at some stage, it is all going to end in tears as we have allowed our society to develop to the stage it has and not been more rigirous in who we select and how we participate to make sure this doesn't happen.

Is it Cantonese or Mandarin I have to learn?

Hope you feel better now getting all that off your chest.  If Charles and Starmer Behaved  as you seem to want them to, where would We be? Charles and the Royal family behaved well and heaped coals OF  FIRE on the Orange U tan's head. CLASS Beats ARSE and the contrast was Exquisite, Obvious and Subtle. Britain did what Britain does best and it was WIDLY viewed for all to see. Good show, King C. You're Da MAN.  Nev

I was not suggesting being belligerent by any stretch of the imagination. Diplomacy is an art as well as a learned skill. What everyone seems to be doing is slurping up Chumps arse and not, via diplomacy, setting a a standard. All these "red lines" are breached by Chump, yet everyone persists? Why? Can you answer that?

Because they will be voted out, sacked (execs), etc.

That is on you and me.. and eveyone else.

That is my point.

But if you think it is just getting it off my chest.. well.. you can take it any way you like.. You got any better ideas? Becauise so far, nothing else is working.

I think the poms did well. Charles gave a speech. Professionally as expected.

Anyone who looked closely would have seen the King cringe when Trumpet was stumbling to read his crazy speech. And many in the world (including USA) were laughing at his rambling, halting efforts.

And Chump asserted that he was the first US pres to get invited to visit?

Ha!

Anyway, all that is not about the Kirk story.

I think all the brooha and martydom about Kirk highlights the shameful absence of outrage over previous assassination of politicians and spouses who happened to be Democrats.
