MartyDMy house lot of POOR quality fluoro globe didn't last 12 months, in fact the first globe didn't last ONE day, I have payed from my own pocket for replacements, when the government agent came to replace my globes he put them in "touch lights"

that don't dim, so buggered those lights that were used, Now we've a mixed lot of fluoro LED & incandescent lights in the house.

As for the old fridge versus the new, the "old" is still running out at a property and the new has been repaired 4 times in five years, the difference could be the "old" uses a thermostat for temperature settings, and the new uses "cyclit" cycling system.

spacesailor

Spacesailor, I never mentioned fluoro's. LED's are the go.

As for the fridge, yes, you've had one experience. I'd like to see data on a larger sample size though!

I never mentioned fluoro's. LED's are the go.

Why?

I installed LED floodlighting in my workshop and it was a disaster. Poor quality light (as above) variable light level between fittings and constant failures of both the LED modules and the drivers which is a hassle when they are 4-5m up. Thanks China. I replaced them all with high efficiency fluoro battens, on par efficiency at over 100 lumens per watt, vastly better CRI and not a single failure or issue since.

LEDs are good for effects lighting but like the compact florescent I found them nasty for general lighting.

Still curse the totalitarian Marxist egomaniac waffleworth that banned the light bulbs.

Just who are the individuals calling the shots in the EU? I see no names, no faces in the media. Who are these faceless men re-establishing feudalism in Europe?

Who is this modern day Tomás de Torquemada? In 1483, Ferdinand and Isabella, of Spain established a state council to administer the inquisition with the Dominican Friar Tomás de Torquemada acting as its president. Torquemada eventually assumed the title of Inquisitor-General. Various motives have been proposed for the monarchs' decision to found the Inquisition such as increasing political authority, weakening opposition, suppressing conversos, profiting from confiscation of the property of convicted heretics, reducing social tensions, and protecting the kingdom from the danger of a fifth column.

Apart from the supression of conversos (Jews and Islamics who willingly (?) converted to Christianity) don't the actions of the Heads of the EU seem to echo those motives?

Purely as a matter of interest Sir,. . .I post this short video clip of the UNELECTED AND NON-REMOVEABLE Chairman of the European Commission, Mr. Jean Claude Juncker, ex Prime Minister of Belgium. . . . Completely Pissed as usual,. . .making a fool of himself on a nationally broadcast television video. . . "Bitch Slapping " various heads of European governments . . .

THIS IS THE "ALICE IN WONDERLAND" NIGHTMARE THAT WE, IN THE UK ARE TRYING TO GET THE HELL OUT OF WITH THE REFERENDUM VOTE ON JUNE 23RD.. . . .

I could be quite wrong here, but I think it was Voltaire who said, "If you want to know who holds all the power,. . .then find out who you cannot criticize. . ."

I'll alter that a bit and say, if you want to know who pulls the strings, . . find out who you are NOT allowed to vote out of office. . . .

How did you get it ?. . .

Who voted for you ?. . .

How do we get rid of you ?. . . .

This movie was "Crowd funded" and is really worth watching, IF. . . . . . .any of you are interested in what's going on oop 'ere in urope. . . .!

It was pulled by Youtube, following a complaint by an unknown person in the UK Government, as it goes against the current "Stay in the EU" Narrative.

It is by no means exhaustive in it's subject matter,. . ie, it does not go deeply into the "Sovereignty" issues with which we are fighting to maintain, against a massive push from Germany, which actually COMPLETELY controls the European Union, and always has . . . Not content with being beaten to a bloody pulp in TWO word wars,. . .the Germans have taken over the mantle of the EU, and control it with an Iron fist.

Angela Merkel, the Stasi trained ( East German secret Police) Boss of Germany, is holding all the cards, and nothing happens withour HER sayso.

Most commentators are now fairly certain, that she is clinically insane, following her statement slat year to all and sundry that Germany would take 800,000 migrants from the Middle East.. . .this has been ongoing, as I'm sure some of you will have noticed, assuming your TV news services are actually reporting it,. . .this is a problem in Europe, as the German, French Dutch. and Swiss media, are prohibited from reporting anything to do with Immigration, as are all of their respective police services, not allowed to report the thousands of rapes of local women, men and children which are going on daily. Thank Heaven for the internet, otherwise, nobody would know about any of this.

I worry for my country, . . . . soemething has got to change soon. Information would be a help, but we are suffereing from a censored / compliant mainstream media, for what reason, I cannot fathom.

Anyhow,. . . . this video was blocked originally by Youtube, some time earlier today,. . .but following some serious threats form big buisness leaders and politicians for leave,. . .it has been restored. I hope the link works,. . .otherwise it is available in full on Vimeo.

How on Earth do all these poor migrants afford all these smoke bombs. . .to confuse British Truckers trying to get their loads through the port of Calais ? ? ?

Personally, I'd like to see each trucker issued with a machine gun, as the French Police are about as much use as a one legged bloke at an ass kicking party. . .

These blokes have to go through this every day of the week but our glorious "impartial" Globally respected BBC. . . . are not even reporting it. . . . A lot of these so called Violent young "Refugees" ( ! ) manage to get in to the UK every day, by clinging onto the underside of trucks. . . .then get "Assylum" and free money and free accommodation. . .etc. . .etc. . .and can't be deported as it is against EU "Yuman Rites" rules. . . . . and if found in, or on, a truck,. . .the truck operator is fined £2,000.00 per person by UK authorities for importing illegals. . . . . .

Bloody ridiculous. . . .

Phil, you're not seriously complaining about incandescent globes being phased out are you? LED's come in "warm white" which IMHO isn't all that different to the old fashioned bulbs. Plus the power savings (when they do meet their life expectancy) more than covers the purchase price.

One of the most significant energy savings a household can make is replacing 60 - 100w incandescent bulbs with 4 - 8 (ish)w LED's.

Heard somewhere that today's fridge-freezers use 80% less power than 1990's versions (while being bigger).

You don't need to use more power to achieve the same result!

But I do like your extremely British protest.

One thing no-one seems to mention.....everyone worries about light bulbs using power, but no-one thinks twice about boiling the kettle several times.

Do the math, 100W light bulb vs 2200W kettle.....3 minutes of kettle is worth over an hour of lightbulb. Now, which is going to save you money?

Well, my old father-in-law used to laugh at people who filled the kettle right up to make 1 cup of tea.

Want to save energy with your kettle... only put in the amount of water you need!

OK you blokes. Smoko's over. Rinse your tea mugs at the sink and get back to saving the Mother Country from the tendrils of the Boogeymen of Brussels.

Britain is like an errant husband who has neglected his wife and family to have a fling with an exotic hussy. Now he's discovered that the hussy is a money grabbing manipulator, he wants to come back to the arms of his family.

The family, once known as the Empire, but now grown up into a Commonwealth is surely Britain's saviour. There are more marketplaces in the Commonwealth with similar political backgrounds that covers a quarter of the Globe than in an unstable conglomeration of self-interested political units.

Britannia relinquere!

Brexit: The Trade Case

What is Trade?

Why do ALL establishement figures talk like this ? ? . . .

Trade is the transfer of title in goods, or services, from one entity to another - in return for which some value is received. The mechanism in which this occurs is called 'The Market'.

If you can master this simple concept, then congratulations! You already have a considerably higher degree of intelligence than any socialist alive.

The physiological condition which arises, when a communard comes face to face with this simple fact of life, is called 'Denial'. In its untreatable and terminal state, it becomes 'Denial of Denial'.

When we talk of trade, we generally mean International Trade, where the two sides of Trade occur in different countries, one of which is our own.

We used to be the greatest trading nation in the world but then something went very badly wrong. Socialism. This has, above all else, caused huge poverty and misery in the UK. In an attempt to put it right, we joined the EEC - which then metamorphosed into the EU. Regretfully, it made matters infinitely worse - in very short order.

Now, our trade is managed inefficiently by outsiders to the UK - who would not understand the concept of 'Trade' even if it ran them over in a 44 ton truck, at high speed.

This article on Trade could really be terminated at this point as, although this may sound facetious, it pretty accurately reflects the state to which our inability to manage our own trade has arisen. But, since we have a referendum looming up, we must persevere.

Restraint of Trade

Here is an interesting term. It has long been the case in English and US legislation that most such actions are unlawful. Anyone who did work in EEC law would have recognised that it was banned by Articles 85 and 86 of the Treaty of Rome.

Yet there is no worse offender of this principle than the EEC itself. It has carried out this unlawful activity so effectively that EU trade has fallen from a global total of some 37% in 1972 (with 9 member states) to just 14% currently (with 28 member states). A decline of 62% which, if continued unabated, will reach zero% by the end of 2043.

Readers will understand that such an extraordinary result could not have happened just by itself. A huge amount of work has gone into bringing this about. Dedicatedfonctionnairesin Brussels and Luxembourg have spared no pains or expense to reduce us to this state. Some have had to retire on huge pensions, utterly drained by the considerable effort of standing in the way of enterprise. Fortunately, they have been assisted by global corporations who loathe small enterprise because it impacts upon their fat, untaxed profits.

Before we joined the then EEC, more than half our trade was done with countries outside of Europe - that still applies! We used to buy cheap food from our trading partners in return. EEC trade then accounted for just 23% of our exports - it now stands at a pathetic 44%, but this is falling steadily as EU growth stagnates even further. Our food is now bought mainly from more expensive European sources.

We did cover the manipulation and downright cheating that occurs in the EU - with Health and Safety being used as a proxy for defending inefficient industries of member states.

But that is not the full story - we have not accounted for the 'Rotterdam Effect'. Much of our trade is freighted to this Dutch entrepôt and then onwards to the rest of the world. But it counts as trade within the EU, even though it never passes out of the free-port area. So even the official statistics contrive to paint a better picture of our EU trade than really exists. Can you believe that the ONS did not even realise this was happening until last year? Only then did they set to and work diligently to assess the situation. The eventual painfully-researched discovery informed us they did not really know. So someone tossed a coin and declared it might be half of the total trade to Holland - or even more... or less. Whatever. This astounding revelation will surely have justified the bestowing of quite a few knighthoods.

Unfortunately someone then spoiled the resulting tranquillity by mentioning the Belgian entrepôt, Antwerp... One simply cannot invent this stuff. Great care is taken to write these articles seriously. But there comes a point when 'Alice in Wonderland' begins to look decidedly sensible.

The White Knight carries his box upside-down, so the rain can't get in.

NGOs

This acronym stands for 'Non-Governmental Organization'. There are perhaps ten million of them throughout the world. Really. Issa Shivji, from Tanzania, condemns them as 'part of a neoliberal paradigm which wants to change the world without understanding it'. He has my vote. The public believes that, at least in this field, there is genuine independence from government - which would be nice if it were true. Most NGOs actually rely upon government for their funding. The sums involved are of telephone number magnitude. They are largely a form of protectionism too.

Humpty Dumpty says words mean whatever he wants them to.

Exports

Our top exports by product are cars, refined and crude oil, pharmaceuticals, gas turbines, diamonds, aviation parts, liquor, gas and vehicle parts. These account for over half of our exports. There is nothing here which we could only sell to Europe, in fact, freed from anti-competitive EU directives, we could sell much more to the rest of the world. Many other richer countries are crying out for such products. Europe would like them - but can't afford to pay.

Accounting

Some of us remember a time when the CEO would want a calculation done. He would call in his Financial Director, or Accountant and ask him how much One and One made. Immediately, the correct answer would come back: 'Two.' Nowadays, the answer has changed to 'What do you want it to make?' Of course, this practice has been commonplace in the Treasury for decades - because they have the best educated people working there.

EU Free Trade Agreements (FTAs)

Let's have a look to see who they are with:

  • China? No.

  • India? No.

  • US? No.

  • Japan? No.

  • Australia? No.

  • Brazil? No.

  • Indonesia? No

  • Pakistan? No.

  • Saudi Arabia? No.

Oh dear, the EU does not seem to be a very good trade negotiator, does it?

What happened to the UK's seat on the World Trade Organisation (WTO) then? Hmmm. We had to give it up to the EU.

But it is not all bad news, the EU does have treaties with some 50 states including: Albania, Palestine, Lebanon, Belize, Fiji, St Lucia, The Gambia, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Fiji, Moldova and Ukraine. Oh! And Zimbabwe! One can see where the EU have been putting their priorities.

With the 'Gravity Model' of trade, used by the WTO itself, the value of FTAs can be assessed. The resulting value to the EU of the combined trade deals of all these countries is just over £5tn. It sounds a lot until you realise that South Korea (not an EU member at the last count) has deals worth £45tn whilst Chile has over £50tn. There are dozens of countries all over the world, some quite small, who have more trade deals than the EU (with its 500m population) has. Switzerland with a population of just 8 million has struck deals worth just under £30tn, dwarfing the EU total five times over. Do you see a problem emerging here? The EU ranks nowhere in FTAs, despite having been set up for decades.

Notwithstanding, the UK conducts huge trade with all the first list of countries - without a trade deal in place. Can anybody provide one good reason why they should cease to wish to continue doing business should weLeavethe EU?

Confession

Writing this depressed me due to the extreme futility of the many nonsensical aspects of the situation. I feel I am losing the will to continue breathing. You probably saw Martin Durkin's excellent film yesterday. Since then, we have had the spectacle of every Financial Director from the FTSE 100, all 100 of them, warning us yesterday against Leaving? You can bet your lives, and mine, that their interests do not coincide with ours. They benefit greatly from the fact that the EU is anti-democratic. Why would they seek to change this'Alice in Wonderland'situation?

Let us make them all start to work for their living, instead of feather-bedding them, as now. Give them the biggest Leave send-off we possibly can!

We may add Dave and George to this send-off - and Jeremy and that weirdo in the LibDems, can't remember his name. And Obama. And Juncker, Tusk and Schulz (all exempt from national taxation - at our expense). And Hollande and Carney. And Gordon Brown and Tony Blair. All these monsters trying to beat us into submission - for what? Really, it is like a recurrent nightmare we should have awoken from years ago! They can do one! All of them!

Seriously - who on earth really does not want to be free?

That is all for this week. Next week, a more sober attempt to examine:

This site would not have the storage capability to contain the file,. . . otherwise, a list of other things which are illegal in the EU might be interesting reading for you,. . assuming you had a year or so to read it all. . . . the dolts come out with a couple of thousand new ones, . . . plus sub clauses to previous ones each week. . .

Translation: The Koch brothers are massively rich conservative nut jobs who give millions in funding to organisations which oppose action on climate change, universal health care and anything else that could benefit the other 99.99% of the population.

As I said they (Koch) are Libertarians, not Conservatives. There are significant fundamental differences Marty, you should look into it. BTW the left agenda items you mention have harmed a great many Americans financially and only helped the 1% get richer.
