Popular Post Litespeed Posted August 17, 2024 Popular Post Posted August 17, 2024 Just got off the phone from my son in Sydney. He is a robotics/computer development engineer. He just received with his tech partner a $100k grant from a big Uni innovation fund to develop a new technology. Can't say what it is but will lead to very big things and hopefully a high tech development of world leading stuff. Just the bottom rung of the R &D bucket but a very important start. Meanwhile he is been head hunted by big venture capital and some dark box government stuff. I am absolutely stoked, all the hard years and effort, never fitting the mould of society and being outside the box. All those years of R/c cars and airplanes have paid off. I will take some credit in upbringing and 50% credit at least for the DNA. I can't say a lot about it, but he has many things all leading to a big future. My son the inventor, has a very nice sound to it. I am incredibly proud, he has overcome incredible health problems, obstacles and many years interrupted from education in a system that doesn't know what to do with a brainiac on the spectrum. He is going to change the world. You may never know but I will. Damn it feels great. 3 1 4
onetrack Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 He's going to design a new can opener, that doesn't pinch your fingers??
Litespeed Posted August 17, 2024 Author Posted August 17, 2024 Can? So last millenium. More star trek technology than spam cans. Fingers optional 1
Popular Post Litespeed Posted August 17, 2024 Author Popular Post Posted August 17, 2024 Wow what a week. First Zak found images of a painting my Jane ( his stepmother )did of him as a 5 year old. Done in oils, it was a work of love during her first year of cancer. It was lost in the turmoil of life and death. Zak found it and we will have it replecated in oil paints. To see it again brought back so many great and not so memories. To see my little boy on canvas and now have him reach for the stars is humbling, and ecstatic. It's been a journey that would seem a fiction on paper but life is stranger and far more surprising. I know Jane would be just as proud. 8
Jerry_Atrick Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 Big congrats to your son, and to you and your good self. Although our physcial paths have not crossed, I am also proud of him for achieving what he has in real adversity. Quality deserves recogniton. 1

It holds her heart and soul. It shows the pride and confidence she had in herself and her love of someone you both held dear. My wife bought an image printed on canvas from ALDI. It wasn't a "paint-by-numbers", just an outline on canvas, like a child's colouring book page. She worked diligently on it, adding colour with a wide range of coloured art pencils. When she had finished, we had it framed. She's gone now, but I still have that artwork to remember the good times . If you do anything at all, simply take it to a conservator for cleaning and any MINOR restoration work. To get an idea of the conservator's skills, watch this video. 2
Litespeed Posted August 17, 2024 Author Posted August 17, 2024 No, The original was lost, all we have is photos. 2 1
old man emu Posted August 18, 2024 Posted August 18, 2024 It's great when your kids rise above the common herd. It's always due to their own hard work and sacrifice. My made it to the Board of a multinational company dealing with Australian Defence. She got her degree in Commerce, then studied to become a Certified Public Accountant. On the other hand, my son was pretty well self taught in the hardware of computer systems (LAN and servers and that stuff). Then he taught himself e-Commerce and now has his own very successful small business in that area. I suppose that all my wife and I could take claim to is that we encouraged their early learning at school. The daughter was the academic. The son was a sportsman, class clown and occasionally paid attention in class. 1 1
Popular Post Jerry_Atrick Posted Thursday at 07:07 PM Popular Post Posted Thursday at 07:07 PM I'm going to hijack this thread rather than create a new one. My Daughter is currently working tempo for EDF until September when she starts university. Already, they are asking her to stay perm.. the big boss has said to her, her boss will be wearing black in mourning for a week after she leaves. They can't offer her part time work but are amenable to her working during school hols as she gets the job done well. And apparently, she is becoming known at other EDF plants (Remember, these plants, under British Energy, before they were bought out by EDF, were ny clients. I left the industry before British Energy was bought out, but I certainly had nothing to do with them hiring her). She has had to deal with an alleged predator, is used as the benchmark for her role when they are hiring, and is known at other plants by senior people, although having never met them. Her role is administrative support for engineering teams, so it isn't quite in Litespeed's son's world, and she will be doing law, which the world is acutely short of, with the intention of becoming a barrister (and yeah, she wants to make a bit of the spondoolies). Anyway, at Hinkley point, Big Carl plopped the dome atop unit 2: My dughter appears between the 1 hr and 1hr and 5 minute mark. First guess of who she is wins this week's accolades! 3 1 1
old man emu Posted Thursday at 11:18 PM Posted Thursday at 11:18 PM It's really a great feeling when you see your kids leave the nest and soar to the heights. We can puff out our chests and say, "I made that', even if you know in your heart that you only set them off on the path to success when they were kids. 1 1

Jerry_Atrick Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago (edited) Thanks, Gents.. Unf, this house is relieveing my of my dough at the moment.. but I am off to Taunton this eve to watch Somerset play someone in the T20 cricket. Despite Taunton getting a vid by the Youtuber, Turd Towns, it has a nice enclave with a nice wine bar that serves Plantagenet chardonnay by the glass. So, will be nipping down there.
