Well known personalities who have passed away recently (Renamed)

Peter Hollingworth, retired former Anglican archbishop and former Governor General, has passed away, aged 91.

 

Hollingworths later career was dogged by accusations he did nothing to prevent pedophiles from operating within the Anglican Church. He admitted that he was poorly prepared to deal with the problem, and thus did nothing about it. 

He was personally picked for the G.G. job by John Howard in 2001 - which smacks of a "job for a mate" to me - but Hollingworth resigned from the G.G. position in 2003 as the protests about his lack of dealing with the Anglican Church pedophiles, became louder and louder.

He only resigned his Anglican priest status in 2023, officially to "end distress" for Anglican church abuse survivors.

This one is not recent, but is noteworthy. 

 

Actress Catherine O'Hara died in January this year. She had dextrocardia with situs inversus, a condition in which the heart and other major internal organs are reversed from their normal positions. She had an extensive film career.

Just found out that Lorraine Bayley (Grace Sullivan) passed away on 28 February 2026 aged 89.

Derryn Hinch, who referred to himself as the Human Headline because of his penchant for courting controversy, has died aged 82.

 

The New Zealand-born radio host, who dabbled in acting and politics, died in his sleep on Friday morning.

 

His former colleague and personal assistant Annette Philpott confirmed his death, attributing it to “old age”.

 

“He’s had really tough times of late. He’s been in and out of hospital. I’m assuming his heart just gave out,” Philpott told the Daily Mail.

Actor Sam Neill has passed away shortly after saying he was cancer free.

Sam was a great actor and an all round fine human being. A genuine nice guy. I loved his book "Did I ever tell you this" a series of his memoirs he put together after finding out about his cancer diagnosis. Sir Sam Neill I will miss you
