Popular Post onetrack
... and it turned out pretty good. I used some of my home-grown Mangoes, some onion, a bit of sugar, a few chunks of apple, a few currants, and some "Indian-style" spices - cumin, black pepper, a touch of coriander, a bit of ginger. But ... everyone I offer it too, is a bit reluctant to taste it! But now I know why food manufacturers go to extensive lengths with colouring and additives to make their food look "highly attractive to the eye"! I do have to admit - the initial, physical appearance of the chutney, is a bit off-putting. Funnily enough, we had a social afternoon with rellies with nibbles and dips, and I put some of this chutney out as a dip - and it was nearly all gone by the end of the social session!
willedoo
Looks good to me. It's one of my pet hates that commercial food has to rely so much on artificial stuff to make it attractive to the consumer. Back in the days when I was allowed to eat sugar, I used to make my own marmalade from orange peels. Way better than any bought stuff. Another good one is lilly pilly jam if you like a tart taste. Reminds me a bit of the rosella jam my mum used to make when I was a kid.
Bruce Tuncks
I made some zuccini pickles and followed the recipe etc from utube exactly. Now it looks like pickles and tastes like pickles but was too sweet for me. So I put some mild chillies and some cloves of garlic ( chopping and blanching them first) and now it tastes better and looks a lot like your stuff onetrack. I reckon your stuff looks ok . But now I need to take some pics....
facthunter
Mango is OK as just Mango. Sugar is rocket fuel, NOT food. Nev 1
willedoo
I'd like to be able to make jam without sugar, but I don't know if it's possible. It probably wouldn't set.
facthunter
You need Pectin or gelatine. Gelatine makes a kind of Jelly. Nev
spacesailor
Use " jamsetta " it has " caster sugar " in as a carrier. But seemed OK when the ' oldies ' used it. spacesailor 1
