  1. I must be very secure, then. I've only got a 2WD Hilux (don't see any need for 4WD, unless you're paddock-bashing regularly), gave up my guns in 1982 when my house burnt down and the fire destroyed them - and I've never had any complaints about my penis size from the ladies.
  2. Jerry gets the cigar! He was called the "King of Country Rock" by Johnny O'Keefe, and also "the Grannies heart-throb" for his repertoire of 50's and 60's country rock songs.
  3. He specialised in Country Rock, he's got an OAM, and he lived out of a motorhome whilst he toured.
  4. No takers? He was popular with the RSL and club circuit in NSW in the '60's and '70's. His first major hit was in 1965.
  5. This bloke is a former Aussie rock star. He turned 80 a few months ago, and this photo is just over a month old.

Yeah, I got the same treatment on admission. The nurse was concerned because my reading was sitting around 93% and wasn't budging. When I asked what the problem was, she said, "your blood oxygen level is low, it needs to be a minimum of 95%!" I'd just walked a kilometre trying to find the eye hospital, after SWMBO had dropped me off at the main hospital, because the eye hospital had moved since last year - so I couldn't understand why it would be low. However, after a couple of minutes, it started going up, and it got to 97% pretty quickly, so she was relieved.
  7. In their eyes, you've definitely done something wrong by looking for a credit advance! And of course, if you've taken on a credit advance, that reduces your borrowing ability and also lowering your credit rating. The worst feature is, if you apply for credit and get knocked back, your credit rating suffers because they suspect you're facing financial stress, by simply applying for credit! By far the greatest rort perpetrated by banks however, is their largely agreed interest rate on basic credit cards, of around 14%. Of course, you can also get tempting credit card offers with "rewards" and other enticements, and then find out the interest rate is 20% or 22%!! I have 2 credit cards from organisations that are not part of the Big Four banking cartel. Note how the Big Four banks have bought up as many smaller banks as possible - but keep their original name - making people think they're dealing with a bank that isn't part of the Big Four - when they actually are. I have a card with Defence Bank, which used to be the Defence Force Credit Union (DEFCREDIT), and a card with CFCU (Community First Credit Union) Bank. Both these organisations are member-owned, so no corporate greed and outrageous salaries to CEO's are involved. Both these cards are unsecured credit cards and their interest rate is 8.99%. What is even better, CFCU allow cash advances at the same rate as the card, so no ripoff as with the Big Four, with their scammy cash advance interest rates that can be as high as 26%. https://communityfirst.com.au/news/safe-and-secure-option#:~:text=Community First is member-owned,service and competitive interest rates.
  8. The Brogan Doodlebug: In 1946, Frank Brogan crafted a sleek, two-seat runabout he called the Brogan Doodlebug. It featured a highly streamlined steel body with headlights and windshield posts seamlessly blended in. The topless, doorless three-wheeler measured 96 inches long (2.5M), rolled on a 66-inch wheelbase (1.68M), and could be turned around within its own length. With the buyer’s choice of rear-mounted, single-cylinder Briggs & Stratton or twin-cylinder Onan air-cooled engines, the Doodlebug could achieve a top speed of 45 miles per hour (72kmh) and travel nearly 70 miles (113kms) on a gallon (3.8L) of gas. Brogan designed the Doodlebug especially for women, so he made sure operation and maintenance were easy. Gear-shifting was automated using a mercury-actuated system similar to fluid drive, which eliminated the clutch pedal. Changing the hidden front tire simply required popping out the grille and unscrewing two bolts. The engine was removed just as quickly—lift the rear deck lid, release three pins, disconnect the gas line, and lift the engine from its position beside the five-gallon fuel tank and battery ... After photos of the Doodlebug appeared in the nation’s newspapers and popular magazines, Brogan received an average of 200 postcards and letters per month. Requests to buy and distribute came from every state and 20 foreign countries. Brogan hand-built 30 Doodlebugs and sold them for $400 each before realising he'd lost $100 on every car he turned out. Tooling for mass production required $150,000 that he didn’t have, so he suspended Doodlebug sales.
  9. Bruce, yes - but you have to register with the credit rating agencies (of which there are only three main ones in Australia - Equifax, illion and Experian), and then log in every time you want to check your rating. It's a good idea to do so, so you can pick up any fraudulent credit applications where some crim has acquired your personal details, and made a credit application under your name. All the crims need is your full name, date of birth, address and drivers licence number, and they can lodge a fraudulent application. If the fraudulent application is not picked up, but rejected anyway, this affects your credit rating. Any application for credit adversely affects your credit rating, even if you get rejected.
  10. Right on the mark. He's 93 now. Looking a bit thin and stooped, but still plugging on. This is from 5 mths ago.
  11. Here's the basic information as to how credit rating scores are calculated - but it's far from complete. What is also being taken into account with credit ratings now, is how long you take to pay bills - as well as credit card balances. They also watch your account balances and whether they show a downward trend or not. You can pay off a $2000 credit card in full one month, but if you spend $3000 on the card next month (even if you do pay it off fully when its due), it still registers as increasing indebtedness. Once again, it's all done with algorithms, no humans are involved, just the people reporting the numbers. Those people (reporting) now even include shire councils (rates) and utility providers, if you're in default on their bills. https://www.creditsavvy.com.au/learn/credit-faqs/how-are-credit-scores-calculated https://www.creditsavvy.com.au/learn/6-things-that-dont-affect-your-credit-score
  12. I was surprised to find the association between Lesbos and lesbians is a lot more murky than we have been told. As with so much ancient culture, there's a lot lost in the translation and in ensuing individual opinions. https://greekreporter.com/2023/06/09/greek-island-lesbos-word-lesbian/#:~:text=The etymology of “lesbian” and,of Lesbos' most famous inhabitants.

I had a previous, similar operation in April last year - by the same Doc, but with a different anaesthestist. That op, they knocked me right out. I woke up and it was all over, and recovered much better and faster that time. I went into the recovery room, had a chicken sandwich and a cup of tea (pretty enjoyable after an 18 hr fast) - then they walked me out 1/2 hr later, and the ride home was more enjoyable. This time, the anaesthetist was a woman, rather than the bloke I had last year, and she only put me under "twilight" sedation. I could hear all the staff conversing during the op, and feel a lot of action around my eye, and I felt him taking skin from my shoulder for the skin graft. I'd much rather be right out of it, and I don't really understand how they claim there's benefit with twilight sedation. I certainly didn't come out of it any faster or with less problems, so I'll take the GA anytime, now.

I've just come out of hospital after an eyelid operation, and I can tell you, my experience with hospital anaesthetic this time around, is not good! No-one told me Fentanyl makes you throw up endlessly after you come around! The recovery section nurse says, "Oh you must be very sensitive to anaesthetic! The anaesthetist should have given you an anti-nausea injection with the Fentanyl!" Well, thanks for letting me know after the event! I got my anti-nausea injection after I'd thrown up twice, plus two huge syringes of dispersant to go with it, and I was still throwing up in the car on the way home! Not much fun, enduring that, as well as enduring the op!
  15. They're not houses, they're mansions - designed to take maximum advantage of the tax-free status (and capital-gains-tax-free advantage) of the "family" home. There needs to be an upper limit on what classifies as a "family home". It's a no-brainer for wealthy people to pour $5M into a "family home" and reap multiple millions in tax-free gain in years to come.
  16. Here's an interesting grains report on Ukraines struggle to continue to keep up grain production. They're doing reasonably well, but their farming areas are being impacted by landmines and Russian territorial control - and most importantly, by restricted grain shipping ability. They have a large stockpile of grain they need to move out, but Russia is determined to stop the grain movement, so they can cripple Ukrainian income. The weather is throwing in a curve ball, with a major extended dry period resulting in a severe moisture deficiency, which has led to the cessation of Winter crop planting in some areas. https://www.farmtender.com.au/prime-ag-news/agriculture-challenges-continue-for-ukraine?utm_source=Email_Alert&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=FT_Daily_Tue_03/10/2023
  17. The "YES" campaigners are in the 'nure with the AEC for producing and issuing "YES" vote posters that copy the AEC's colours. This is an offence, and quite a devious move on the part of the "YES" camp. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-10-03/yes23-campaign-asked-to-keep-purple-white-signs-away-from-aec/102927986
  18. The $64 question is - can RFK Jnr raise much more election money than either Trump or Biden? That's all that counts in American politics.
  19. Whats the difference between Scientology and ancient aliens? One is an alien-based pyramid scheme, and the other is a pyramid-based alien scheme.
  20. The Russian acrobat team shouldn't have lodged an official complaint, when the guy at the base of the human pyramid, quit for no reason. They didn't have Oleg to stand on.
  21. Jerry, if you visit the Western Sydney suburbs, you'd hardly know you were in Australia, more like Lebanon.
  22. Don't forget, a lot of the Aboriginals problems stem from not being able to acquire a job - because they won't learn English, nor any other form of education that would make them employable. Even the lowest manual street worker still needs to be able to understand signage, instructions in English, and have a very basic education. I've been reliably informed by an (educated) Aboriginal friend (a former Australian Indigenous cricketer of note, who works in the Aboriginal Education system), that the failure rate in schooling of the Aboriginals is over 60% - despite all the Govt programmes (such as paying parents to send their kids to school), that were all designed to lift Aboriginal literacy. A large number of Aboriginals still sign their name with an "X", because they can't even write their own name - leaving them vulnerable to fraud and other criminality. So, then the illiterate and unemployed Aborigines become angry and disenchanted and violent when they see "educated" relatives with jobs, getting money that they illiterate can't get. This leads to lots of "humbugging" (look it up), which makes the earners angry, because the money they earn is frittered away by relatives. Amongst all this, I'd like to know how the Voice will fix this problem, where nothing previously tried, fixed it. Another thing I am constantly hearing from the Yes mob, is the cry, "We need Aboriginal Constitutional recognition, and only the Voice can do this!". This is a constantly repeated mantra amongst the Yes voters. But ... I though the Aboriginals gained Constitutional recognition in 1967? What then, is the Voice going to deliver in the form of Constitutional recognition, that the 1967 Constitutional amendment failed to deliver?
  23. I finally found the photo of the Briggs & Stratton pressure washer. The wind-up handle on the hose reel is missing, I've since made a new one. I made the fancy chrome "scabbard" for the lance - out of a section of chrome exhaust tubing! There was nowhere to store the lance when I bought the machine. Perhaps there had been some kind of lance storage arrangement originally, but I couldn't find any sign of it.
