  1. An official of the Ukrainian military intelligence has said the Crimean bridge will be destroyed in the first half of 2024. That makes it sometime in the next 12 weeks. A lot would depend on the definition of destroyed. In my way of thinking, destroyed would mean all four road traffic lanes and the two rail lines brought down for a long time. To knock out the whole bridge for an extended period, they would need to bring some concrete pylons down.
  2. It looks like Ukraine is using Foxbats for their new long range suicide drones. They struck the Russian drone factory in Tatarstan 1,200 kilometres from the Ukrainian border.
  3. Donald Trump Junior is as crazy as his dad. He's saying that Biden's Department of Justice is treating Catholics as domestic terrorists. He said that banks mark anyone who buys a bible and forward the information to the FBI and the DoJ. The odd thing is that Biden is a Catholic and Trump is not.
  4. spacey, do you mean movie historian Bill Collins? Phil Collins is the singer.
  5. Saturday Night Live did a good parody of it but I don't think it's on youtube yet.
  6. It varies with varieties, districts and moisture levels. Winter wheat crops can be planted mid April if there's enough soil moisture, but most wouldn't start until at least the end of April. Planting is usually over by mid June. Wheat crops mature at different times down the east coast. Queensland usually starts harvesting in mid October, later as you go down the coast. Some harvesting contractors start their season in central Queensland and work their way down to Victoria.
  7. 850mm for the first three months of the year, about 33.4".
  8. It's all what you get used to. If you mainly drive semi-trailers, you will find it tricky to back a body truck and will keep turning the wrong way. The longer the trailer, the easier to reverse. I never had a problem with single trailers but always had respect for those that could back road trains (conventional, not B Doubles). Every time I tried it, I would plait the whole show up quick smart. The other ones I used to like watching was the tipper and dog drivers dumping fill. Some used to stop and pin the dolly but the better drivers would back them unpinned. I think it would be a lot harder backing those unpinned articulated dog trailers than the pig trailers. One of the hardest things I've backed is those little 6x4 car trailers. You can't see the damn things and they get away from you in a flash.
  9. 80 is low for me. Mine averages around 90 to 95.
  10. Barnaby was a bean counter in St. George before he went into politics.
  11. Zelensky has said the Americans are not happy with Ukraine striking Russia's oil refineries. Zelensky told them they are using Ukrainian built drones only, so they are free to do what they want with them. Those refineries are supplying a big proportion of the cash for putler to wage war as well as fuel for his war machine.
  12. West of there at Cunnamulla is pretty bad as well. Rotten egg gas smell.
  13. I think part of the idea of unarmed troops advancing into enemy fire was that they would be able to obtain a spare rifle when one of their armed comrades was hit.
  14. I was watching a short video clip where a Ukrainian soldier was describing Russian battlefield tactics. He said they send in a first wave of low quality, poorly equipped troops first. They've intercepted Russian radio transmissions where the Russians in command refer to these troops as sheep. The sheep are accompanied by a small number of experienced troops who's job it is to identify Ukrainian defending positions then retreat, leaving the sheep to perish on the battlefield. They do this a couple of times until they have the Ukrainian positions well located. Then they work those positions with artillery before sending in experienced units. To defend against the meat assaults, the Ukrainians have no option but to expose their defending positions. The Russians divide their troops into two classes - the useful ones worth keeping and the expendable ones. Their regard for the lives of their own troops hasn't changed much since WW2. In that war when there was a shortage of weapons and ammunition, unarmed troops were sometimes forced to advance into German machine gun fire.
  15. Marty, it sounds like you haven't tried Southwark.
  16. Around 5 seconds per spin. It's upside down as well.
  17. That's with the towns that get their town water supply from bores. Those that source it from the river have muddy coloured town water. It puts some of the tourists off a bit.
  18. When I was a kid we used calgon in the bath to try to get the soap to lather in the bore water. It was in powdered form like washing powder and was like sitting on sand in the bath. It was hard water but at least it didn't smell too bad. The town water in some western Queensland towns smells like rotten egg gas and the smell stays on you after having a shower.

    Brain Teaser

By a process of elimination I found out why Google Translate detects it as Hmong. In Esrever ni hsilgne tsuj si siht, the words ni, tsuj, and siht all correspond to Hmong words.
  20. Bearing in mind, the biggest flood we've had here came up to the bottom of those steel gates in the foreground, so quite a bit higher than the flood in the photo.
  21. During the boom quite a few interstate buyers got caught out buying properties sight unseen. At the time it was like a shark feeding frenzy and buyers were just snapping up whatever they could get. I have next door neighbours who moved from NSW and they bought sight unseen. At the time they paid a lot more than what it was worth and didn't realise it was on a floodplain. In a big flood, it goes several feet underwater. As it's a flat block, they've had to spend a fortune on drainage and imported fill for a pad for their horses to survive in the floods. It used to be cane land and before that it was paperbark swampland. This is what they have to live with:
