Was Ben Meiselas the WH reporter or is he quoting an un-named WH reporter. I can't imagine Trump letting Meiselas anywhere near the White House, however I can certainly imagine Trump saying exactly what was reported. Imagine suggesting the Secretary General of NATO to help him pry Greenland away from Denmark, a fellow member of NATO. Likewise dreaming of taking over Canada, another NATO member. Trump is showing exactly what a low-life he is.

Makes you wonder whether the US today would have any hope of matching the organisation and determination needed to repeat that performance if we ended up in another world war. Obviously a war today would be fought differently using different technology but I don’t think they would have any chance.

Yes I agree they technically and environmentally they have a lot of good points but my 2002 Frontera and 2008 Aurion, although not worth much, are still going strong so at this stage I’m not in hurry to buy an EV. The battery in an EV wouldn’t last that long, at least not with the current technology.

Your experience in NZ was interesting to read and they are obviously better equiped with public charging facilities than we are here, at least in WA. I’m still not sold on getting an EV or even a hybrid at this point though.

I have to say that despite wanting to do the right thing for the planet, I don’t see myself getting an EV any time soon. Reading Octave’s NZ post where every stop is used to find a place to recharge the car even if it doesn’t necessarily need it doesn’t have much appeal. Maybe in 15-20 years time if I live that long and ICE’s have been banned. I wouldn’t get a Tesla anyway, just on principle. My cousin’s husband (in Holland) has a hybrid which he loves. However it only goes 55km on a full charge. That’s fine in a small country but Australia’s a big place and I don’t think the large scale charging infrastructure and power needed to supply it are here yet. In the meantime I’ll keep driving my hydrocarbon car.

Marco Rubio said after his meeting with the Europeans that if Russia and Ukraine are so far apart that a negotiated end to the war seems impossible then Trump will probably decide to move on because he has more important things to deal with. He suggested this would decided in a matter of days, not weeks. It doesn’t look good for Ukraine.

True, but apparently under the laws involved in this case, he has the authority to appoint an independent prosecutor if the DOJ tries to dismiss it. The odds are still against him as there's no way Trump's administration will bring all the deportees back for hearings, but at least he's doing his job. It will be interesting to see what happens if the administration is charged with criminal contempt for defying his orders.

That's the conventional wisdom but if true, it's a very hollow victory for some insecure individual.

It's a very strange state of mind for most of us to try and grasp. I'm sure no one here would qualify as a deal originator either. What is the point of having more money than you can spend in a lifetime? The sad thing is that many, and probably most, of the seriously wealthy amass their fortunes by manipulating rather than contributing. Unfortunately for them they end up dying like the rest of us, so ultimately what's the point?
