  1. The New York Times did a detailed analysis of Trump's speeches and concluded that the strategy he uses to convince his followers that he is their savior is pretty formulaic and predictable. It boils down to: · He grossly distorts his opponents’ records and proposals to make them sound unreasonable. · He exaggerates and twists the facts to make his record sound better than it is. · He relies on both well-worn and fresh claims of election rigging to suggest he can lose only if his opponents cheat. · He has turned his criminal cases into a rallying cry, baselessly asserting that he is being persecuted by his successor. · He makes unverifiable claims about what the world would have been like had he secured a second term. · He describes the United States as a nation in ruins. The article gave examples of each, but that's what it boils down to. It's astounding that his followers can't see how he cons them.

  3. I have done that many times, even when intending to back it only a short distance.
  4. Sounds totally credible for a Trump endorsed bible. He has no interest in reading the rules.
  5. I don't suppose it tells the time by any chance?

I think you’ve hit the Goldilocks spot.

If the technique is that impressive we should all have a look.
  8. If he did he'd be selling two covers for $59.95. Mind you, it comes with some patriotic additions at no extra cost. What is the USA Bible? Besides a King James Version translation, it includes copies of the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the Declaration of Independence and the Pledge of Allegiance, as well as a handwritten chorus of the famous Greenwood song.

  10. I’m amazed the appeals court dropped the bond to $175m when he’s been bragging recently that he’s got about $500m in his back pocket. No wonder they call him Teflon Don. To make matters worse they won’t be hearing the case until September and then it could take between one and six months for them to announce their decision.

    Try this one:
  13. Maybe. The president can nominate someone to be the army chief of staff, but the appointment has to be ratified by the Senate, so it may not be that easy to get his Yes Man in depending on who controls the Senate. I would assume that any order to use troops on home soil would need to go through the C.O.S.
  14. That would probably lead to the army commanders refusing to carry out his illegal orders.
  15. Nothing new there. If they were serious, the war would have started decades ago. You also need to be organised and disciplined to fight a large scale war across the country, and the rabble isn’t.
  16. While there’s plenty of talk about a civil war, you need two sides to have fight. So far all the talk seems to be coming from the MAGA team. There doesn’t seem to be anyone else interested in heading to the battlefield, so who are they going to attack?
  17. Unfortunately a bit too nuanced as regards why she was so distressed but I guess they have to be careful in what they say. It was very good of you to try to help Ian. Not everybody would have done that. So sorry it ended the way it has.
  18. Mitch McConnell January 2021: “Former President Trump’s actions preceding the riot were a disgraceful dereliction of duty,” Mr. McConnell said in a speech after the trial had ended. There was no question that Mr. Trump was “practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of that day,” he added. “The people who stormed this building believed they were acting on the wishes and instructions of their president,” Mr. McConnell said. In return, Mr. Trump continuously mocked Mr. McConnell and smeared him. Mitch McConnell March 2024: “It is abundantly clear that former President Trump has earned the requisite support of Republican voters to be our nominee for President of the United States,” he said in a statement that was first reported by The Washington Post. He added, “It should come as no surprise that as nominee, he will have my support. During his presidency, we worked together to accomplish great things for the American people including tax reform that supercharged our economy and a generational change of our federal judiciary — most importantly, the Supreme Court.” The sooner Mitch goes, the better.
  19. He cares more if people are not looking at him. Why they’re looking doesn’t worry him as long as he’s got their attention.
  20. Don't be too sure. Trump will be telling his supporters well before the election that if he doesn't win, it will prove that the Democrats rigged it yet again, and they will believe him.
  21. Mitch McConnell and Trump can't stand each other. McConnell has directly blamed Trump for Jan 6, and Trump has trashed McConnell and his wife Elaine Ciao at every opportunity. Yet, there's every likelihood that McConnell will end up endorsing Trump as the Republican candidate because ultimately his over-riding priority is to beat the Democrats. So much for principles and moral standards! About the only Republican with any shred of integrity is Liz Chaney.
  22. I think there are two main unknowns: 1. How many Democrat, Independent and current non-voters will be worried enough to get out and vote against Trump. 2. How effective the Republican back-room plotting that is going on at State level to tilt the elections in Trump's favour will be.
