I'd rather live in a country that serves the needs of the majority (even if I'm not one of them) than live under a system that only serves the dictator/king/president. That seems to be the only options available. You can please some of the people all of the time, or all of the people some of the time. Nobody can please all of the people all of the time.

Yep. That's the general idea.

Quite agree, after watching Australian dashcams, I sold my motorbike. Just too many pig ignorant, stupid drivers out there - it frightened me.

For once the thread hasn't drifted far from topic. IT JUST KEEPS GETTING WORSE.... Old age, that is.

As the actress said to the bishop, 'I've seen a cockatoo!'

Simple inexperience/inadequate training is a big part of younger car accidents. Yesterday I turned out to a head-on collision. At the highway at the end of my street. A young P plate driver couldn't explain why she ended up on the wrong side of the road, colliding with a oncoming vehicle. The other driver, more experienced, saw the situation unfolding, and moved as far as possible to the left, but she still managed to head-on him. The road was wet. It might have been a little icy. When the girl's ute lost rear grip, she didn't know what to do. 1. She didn't think to drive slower when conditions dictate. 2. Didn't recognise loss of grip. 3. Didn't automatically steer into the skid. Worse still, she still won't know what to do next time it happens. Lack of training. On another occasion in the past, I was present when a young P plater lost it on a wet corner, and rolled a little hatchback. She said it was the second time that had happened. On the same corner. In a different car. Then she blamed the car for it. Ignorance! - due entirely to poor training. Training isn't the all encompassing problem, but it's a significant part of it and most importantly it is a clearly addressable safety issue.

That is age discrimination. The stats show that per capita in each age group, the younger drivers are involved in a higher percentage of road fatalities, than the older ones. If they wish to reduce road injurie/fatalities, they would increase the real driver training and add biennial reviews. I guess lives don't really matter enough to properly address the problem.

C'mon now Jerry. Why on earth are you scrolling British real estate ads? Looks like I might as well start opening your Wolfie welcome pack if you aren't coming home.

I object to the frequent comparisons between DJT and Hitler. Not because thay are inaccurate, but because the technique was not limited to Hitler. For instance Lenin once said:- "Why should freedom of speech and freedom of press be allowed? Why should a government which is doing what it believes to be right allow itself to be criticized? It would not allow opposition by lethal weapons. Ideas are much more fatal things than guns. Why should any man be allowed to buy a printing press and disseminate pernicious opinions calculated to embarrass the government?" ~ Vladimir Lenin The present american revolution is neither capitalism, nor socialism, nor communism. It is common dictatorial greed.

I think you are missing GON's point. I think he is pointing out that, just as the brain needs both the left and right to function properly, politics would benefit if the extreme left was balanced by the extreme right. By the way, I disagree. The extremes do not balance. They just fight

Don't talk too soon, there is a lot of consequences yet to play out. Maybe even there might emerge the promised America Made Great Again....... But at the expense of making most of the American people worse off.
-
I have only one problem with your analogy.... At this point in time we really don't have a left leaning side in politics.

Now that numerous whites have been attacked on Fraser Island, I suspect that the public sentiment about 'those fairly harmless' native dogs has changed. They clearly ARE capable of carrying off an infant. And around touristy places, they lose their fear of humans.

But Nev, I recall from many previous elections.... The Liberal party constantly warning us away from the Labor candidates because Labor is constantly divided by poiltical infighting! Oh, and they always create cause fiscal disasters and astronomical deficits.. By the way, why are they called the Liberal party? They don't seem to have very liberal (progressive) agendas. Quite the opposite.
-
Not about the Vic election, but this year's Tassie election probably doesn't get enough interest to warrant a dedicated thread. Just thinking about the narrowing gap between the Liberal Party and Lib - Lite (previously known as Labor)..... Maybe the only hope for the major parties to have a say in politics, is for them to form a LibLab coalition.

Not only Poo-ten. Even Bill Gates made a fortune from windows. But he did it without teminating his advisors so spectacularly.

He seems to have already proven that capability, last year.

Is that statement reverse mysoginistic? I'll have the ganmar police onta ya, son! -
Onetrack, I understand your reluctance to have the shingles vaccine. You seem to be outside the average autoimmune curve, in a fortunate way. But the fact that you have avoided a number of other illnesses, does not logically mean that you will never get this one. I look at immunisation as an insurance policy. I had the Shingrix last year. It cost me nothing, and shingles is an affliction I wish to avoid.

All I know is that if I get an unexpected invite to a family dinner, I'll be very nice to the host/ess, arrive early to help prepare the food, and even then, I'll be the last one to start eating.

Considering the disparity of wealth between Musk & Donny, I would think that pssin orf Musk is not a great move. In spite of all their numerous childish behaviours, the wealthiest will win.... if he doesn't wake up tomorrow with a new brainwave, and go off on a new project.

It's ok. He may have overslept... a lot. -
And nowadays, it means much the same in most languages. Along with his hangers-on.
-
And sadly, I'd bet they don't have opening windows there!

Poo-ten is so much more efficient at cutting bureaucracy than Musky's DOGE. Maybe the new American administration just needs more open windows?
