  1. Whooping cough has a high mortality rate for infants. And there has been quite a lot of it about in recent years. I had whooping cough as a 40 year old and it really knocked me around. That was a long time ago. I had no qualms about getting the vax before visiting a new grandchild. My conscience would never forgive me if I accidentally killed the baby.
  2. I count 14 per hand. Three bones per finger and 2 for the thumb.
  3. Thats why its called gas. At Australian room temps, gas is its natural state.
  4. A 'travelater' is a procrastinating tourist.
  5. I'll remember not to put it in my fire pump, Nev
  6. No thats not it. He counted the number of bums on seats. Everyone on board was a bum.
  7. Not sure of the relevance of a bull. They don't have a statue of the calf of Baal. Unless you mean their bullshit baffles the brain whilst their hand swiftly reallocates your wealth into their trust fund.
  8. And they all were?
  9. Mr T has a long history of unpaid bills. https://www.aljazeera.com/economy/2024/10/21/trump-us-rallies-leave-behind-unpaid-dues-again-and-again
  10. Careful. You are starting to repeat youself. Again.
  11. In many parts of NT and more remote WA (esp aboriginal communities), the fuel bowsers are enclosed in locked weldmesh cages. To buy fuel you must talk to the attendant who is also behind a wire screen, and ask him nicely to come out and unlock the cage to dispense your fuel. Not a process that city folk are accustomed to.
  12. I was rather hoping one of the hoader forumites would chime in and offer me some nice replacement parts.
  13. Sorry OME, but I mostly used a grit blaster.
  14. To be fair, DT is not much different from the rest in that regard. Very few politicians (or billionaires) know what work is.
  15. Agreed. Water is good to drink as long as you add the antidote.
  16. You Are right, Nev. It's rampant. It's manipulatiIt's It blatantly unconscionable. It's sinister. It's not controllable. And it's everywhere. Before I go out and slit my wrists, is there anything WE can do to stop this runaway train?
  17. Is it ALL gloom and doom?
  18. A rare admission, Nev. Thanks. Can you stump up a fifty until payday?
  19. Opinions rule this world, Nev.
  20. Tenant Ck is one of those places where you have to prepay for fuel before tge pump will dispense. Daytime in tourist season is fairly safe but it's not a place I would live in, no matter how good the pay was. In Alice, I just didn't feel safe.
  21. Australia was ahead of the game until Telecom was sold off. In the late 1980's America still had country businesses stuck with party lines. We had country wide Subscriber Trunk Dialling by then. In the American movies you saw people picking up a phone and saying "Operator, operator?". Anyway, the phone project is under way. The generator mechanism was completely frozen up by masses of rust, having been submerged in a mix of water and decaying battery chemicals. As a testament to old fashioned quality, I successfully completely dismantled it. Amazingly, I unscrewed every screw even those that had head rusted off!
  22. A lady brought an old telephone in to the Mens Shed hoping somebody might be able to 'clean it up a bit'. Some of you old blokes might have distant recollections of these things. Well that's what it should look like. We passed the case along to a woody guy to glue it back together and refinish the American oak. I volunteered to try to recover the remants of the hand cranked ring generator, from a morass of rust.
  23. Yeah, I felt like I was left off the map. Again.
  24. I note that neither KH nor DT are spruiking any policies that might directly address the homelessness or the drug problem or the gun problems nor poor education that's plagueing the country. Much of those problems require a fundamental change of culture, by the population. Something that takes generations to achieve. I disregard migration as a problem. The American indians might disagree with that, but modern USA is historically a nation founded upon migration. Neither are they announcing actual real policies/action plans to stop arming beligerants in the middle east. The current bitter and violent division of the country has been stoked and promoted massively by DT. With the result that whichever party wins this upcoming election, many years will pass before we see the US of A start to improve, both globally and for the population.
